I received 2 credit card offers in the mail. Need help. Looked at both and can't decide.

Both from Chase Visa, both earn $200 gift card after $500. in 3 months, same APR % etc

Here's the only difference I can tell:

The one that is no annual fee earns 1%
The one with free fee fir first year, then $49.00 after earns 2% on gas, rest, disney locations and 1% all others.

I want to earn the gift card and put my trip (May) on when due.

Which would you choose?
I'm leaning towards no annual fee since I
have other better rewards cards (southwest, RCCL)

What does it do to your credit to open both at the same time?

It is addressed to the ***** family. Can I open one and my husband the other? He doesn't understand the value of opening them for the "gift" He see it as potential open credit. But we've never had an issue with credit.

I took out two Southwest cards and my husband took out one so we could get the companion pass for our dd. So far so good with my credit score. I haven't applied for a credit card in years. So as long as you do not make a habit of it, it shouldn't be a problem. Just do not close your accounts all at once because that hurts your credit score. And since it was addressed to a last name and not a specific person, any person with that last name can apply. So yes, you can take out one and your husband can take out one.

Thank you for the response. Now to talk him into the free money. I already did with southwest and should get the points at the close of this statement. Hoping to book air by mid December. Between all these offers and my sales on eBay this trip should be practically 1/3 of the original cost.

My sis and BIL both applied for the $200 offer a couple of years and both got it. was address to "family".

it doesn't do much of anything:thumbsup2 just keep careful track of what card is which.....don't get finance charges, and get your $400.00!
BTW, 1-2% is so tiny an amount back,If I were chossing only one,I'd choose the fee-free card..... if I'm paying an annual fee, it has to be for BIG rewards LOL:cool1:

I didn't see a difference in benefits either. I just can't see opening the one that charges an annual fee after a year. I want to open both for the free money but wonder how to avoid the fee after the first year.

Do you think we can both apply for the same one with the offer code? or is it a one time code?

Get both. Opening a new credit card dings your credit score about 5 points for a few months. As long as you are paying off the card every month, your score should rebound and possibly go up. I would use the 1% just enough to get the giftcard offer and then continue using the 2% card to maximize the amount back. That is unless you have another card that you use that offers you better benefits.

As for the 2% card, at the end of the first year call them up and asked to be downgraded to the 1% fee free card. They *might* offer you to stay at the 2% with some incentive or just go ahead with the downgrade

I have the fee card...however, I put EVERYTHING on that card and just pay it off in full every month. I earn about $20 a month so after the fee I end up with roughly $200 a year in rewards. It's not making me rich, but it's the only card I use so it was worth it to me.

In your case, it sounds like the no fee card may be a better choice, since you do have other cards you use.

We did this too....we had the regular card and switched to the premier card. I put everything on it... food shopping / gas / car insurance payment / restaurants.....we are on the Dave Ramsey plan w/ cash envelopes, so I've got a Chase envelope and for everything we charge, we put the cash in the envelope so it gets paid off each month. We have roughly $ 1450 in Disney dollars that (as of now) that we will use towards our trip in June ! pixiedust: So for the $ 49 annual fee, (we got that card this year) it was totally worth it. (for us, anyway...)

We got sort of the same offer -
Ours went something like this...
$200 Disney gift card after 1st purchase
$49 Fee waived for the 1st year
Chase Epcot Lounge with Free Photo...

We applied and received...
Used it for a tank of gas and put it away
Paid the bill when it arrived
30 or 45 days later we got our $200 Disney Gift Card
We will cancel the card when the $49 fee comes due
Thank You Chase...It pays to have Good Credit...
