Key to the world cards... A question,,,

Hi ! Going on our 2nd Disney cruise on the dream & was wondering... Can you put a hole punch in the KTTWC and still have it be valid? We are traveling with 2 Tweens, 2 teens & a couple of older bachelor gentlemen who might find it easier to attach the card to their belt loop instead of a lanyard ( which might get left somewhere.. Lol! ) wish I could hole punch the wave phone too but that is another issue! Thx for any info!

My understanding is that the Dream/Fantasy use cards that rely on an imbedded RFID chip... and the Magic/Wonder just use a magnetic strip.

Punching a hole would be more risky on the former than the latter.

On board the Fantasy I purchased a lanyard that had a very small wallet attached to the end. It was hooked onto the lanyard with a regular key ring. It had a clear pocket on the front for the KTTW card. Something like that could be removed from the lanyard and attached to a carabeener clip quite easily.

I was wondering this too. On Carnival, we were able to ask someone at a desk on board to punch a hole for us, but I think it may have been in the Casino. We attached it to our belt loops and it made it so much easier to get in and out of the room, especially with arms full of stuff. Attaching the card to a badge reel or elastic type cord is a lot easier than pulling the card out of a pouch.

Not a huge time saver, but just even MORE convenient. We had secured doors at work that required swiping all day long, my patience level with swiping cards is quite low! :teeth:

Has anyone done this with DCL? A Cast Member, in guest relations, for example, should have some idea of where it would be save to punch the hole?

You could just as guest services to do it onboard. Then if there is a problem with the card they can make you a new one.....

Here is the wallet with my KTTW card in the outer pocket.

Three pockets inside and keychain inside. Velcro closure.

Another idea for you....any office supply store will have clear ID badge holders made specifically to attach to a lanyard. The keyring/carabeener idea could be used with those as well.

Just FYI on the Dream & Fantasy you don't even have to remove the KTTW card from the pouch to get in the room. Just tap it against the reader and the door will unlock.

Wow, glad to hear this. We have sailed on the Magic and the Wonder and kept our keys in a lanyard and it was a pain always have to take it out of the little plastic thing. Love that now we can just tap it on the reader and get our door unlocked.

Do the keys come with the lanyards or do you purchase them?

Thanks PrincessShmoo. I like the one posted by Ariel on this thread.

I find this interesting, because the design on the new ships has a card slot (in theory for your KTTW card) to keep the lights on. So, you still are taking your card out of the lanyard for that. I know, I know, just use an old library card or whatever, but the design was for the KTTW card.

:cutie:

Blustars, the lanyard I posted was $8.95.

Regarding the card slot in the room to keep the electricity going in the rooms on the Dream and Fantasy....ANY plastic card the size of a credit card will work, it doesn't need a magnetic stripe or anything. We used an old Disneyland key card in one room and an old prescription coupon card for a med my son no longer takes in the other (which we ended up forgetting in the room when we disembarked; no big deal). We all get the junk mail with the fake credit cards or insurance cards in them. Next time I will take some of those along and toss (or forget) them at the end of the cruise.

I will warn you that most if not all lanyards sold onboard have a breakaway velcro section in the lanyard design.
I purposely bought one at home without this feature to use on water based excursions as I anticipated my kindergartener might climb on me quite a bit (he did) and I had no interest in losing the contents of my lanyard.

It's a required safety feature to prevent strangulation. For water excursions we used the lanyards with the waterproof boxes that float. I tied a knot in the cord right below the breakaway clasp, and carabiner clipped it to the strap on my bathing suit as an additional security measure.

OP was asking about belt clip options though, so the lanyard part would not come into play.
