Cool snorkeling pics! The water was really clear! I like snorkeling but I can't stand the salt water when it gets in my mouth.

What kind of underwater camera did you use? Your pictures are SO clear! I LOVE the hand holding circle one as well, what a memorable shot!

I have a fuji. I can't remember the model off hand, but I bought it in early 2011 and I think it was right before the newest model came out so I got it pretty cheap. (I think it was like $129) Another Diser had the same model and highly recommended it and I loved her pictures, so it was an easy sell.

Those underwater cameras are awesome, aren't they. I was SO against buying one when Tom came up with the idea, but now I am so thankful he was persistant and we bought one.

It sounds bad, but I wish I would've seen him swim into the rock. LOL

I was very leery on buying one too. So many people said you should if you plan on doing water activities and we had planned on doing the Dolphin Encounter last year, so I looked around and Bubbasmom here on Dis had some great underwater shots. I asked questions and went with the same one she had. I really didn't know if it would be worth having. I haven't used it a lot, but the times I have I am so grateful to have it.

I'm not a fan of the saltwater either. But after you get in and get over that first initial taste, you become much more careful. LOL

I love all your underwater photos. I think Graham may have the same camera that you have and he loves it. I invested in an underwater camera after our Hawaii cruise and I have gone with a Panasonic Lumix, which I love. When our private excursion was cancelled, we were sinking about the shipwreck snorkel, but decided on the Mangrove Forest instead.

I have never been good at snorkeling so I'm not sure that I'd have the nerve to do the excursion that you gals did. But, it looks like so much fun and the underwater pictures are great.

I have never been good at snorkeling so I'm not sure that I'd have the nerve to do the excursion that you gals did. But, it looks like so much fun and the underwater pictures are great.

It's really not that hard once you get the mask on right and then getting the breathing down. Claire (7) and Alexis (8) did snorkeling with us this past trip and got it down with in minutes. I was really impressed with how well they caught on.

It's a little life jacket type thing. You can pump it up a little bit or not. The saltwater makes you float pretty well, but I stil lgive it a slight pump to give me an extra safety. Lots of people hate them though and prefer not to use them at all, but you have to at most of these tours so they just choose not to put air in them.

I also started my next TR (link in signature.) I can't remember if you have been there yet or not, but I am pretty sure I started it while you were gone.

We noticed the “Owen” guy swimming towards the bottom. I guess he went down to scare some fish into action.

And out came the big fish. He did sort of look like a shark when you looked at him from far away.

There goes a school of fish.

These guys came up pretty close.

We noticed that it was time to head back to the boat so we made our way back. We had one more destination yet.

Something you don’t see too often. LOL

As we went over to the shipwreck site we were given a bit of history. It wasn’t very far from where we just were either.

A little info about the shipwreck. “The Cali, built in 1900, was a 220-foot long steel-hulled four-masted barquentine that sank in George Town harbour in 1949. She was sailing from Ecuador to Cuba with a cargo of rice when she encountered bad weather and began to leak. She diverted to Grand Cayman but attempts to keep her afloat failed and she was run aground.”
Basically what we were told is she ran into shallow waters to avoid sinking, but she was full of rice and it expanded from the water and started breaking the ship apart. It sat there for many years and finally they decided to blow her up to sink her completely, but someone was a little bit generous with the dynamite and added way too much and she blew up BIG and pieces went flying all over and into town. Her remains are on the bottom and we could see quite a bit.

Time to get back in.

And I attempted a little underwater video.

This is kind of spooky looking.

I played with some of the ways I edited the pictures, so the water itself didn’t really turn to a different green or blue, just the way I edited it to see if I could get them clearer.

Another peek at our ship.

These fish just totally cracked me up.

They would swim right at me and then quickly turn away.

It was like they would say “hey let’s check her out … oh wait …… she’s scary, turn around quick”.

It didn't bother me so much because I do know they add tips on to all drinks, but water does seem a little extreme for that. It wasn't much, so i didn't care too much. It irritated me more that the guy in front of me wasted that time adding a tip when it would've been added anyways. LOL

Ah! I thought it was BEYOND the auto-gratuity. Whew! No big deal then.

LOVE your pictures - they are so fun to look at and remember it all! This excursion was a definite highlight for me, I cannot wait to snorkel again.

Love the snorkling photos! I love snorkling though I haven't gone in years! I think that little "Nemo" probably swam back crying "Mama, Mama, I just saw the most humongous fish ever!"
I used to have to keep telling myself "don't smile, don't smile" because every time I'd smile with joy, I'd get water in my mask!
