OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

We had our cake delivered for our dessert at Cali Grill back on Nov 16th. The cake was a surprise for my younger one's 4th bday. It's an 8" chocolate cake with raspberry mousse and cream cheese filling + chocolate buttercream. The cake was really yummy! Cost = $137

I remember your sketches a few pages back. What a fantastic job they did. Love your cake design. Happy B-day to your little one.:goodvibes

I emailed Chef Brian about a cake for my DD birthday dinner at CRT the second week of December (I attached a picture of one I liked). He sent me a picture back of their princess package cake, which I really didn't want.

I emailed him back a different Ariel cake I really liked that I found on this thread and I have not heard back from him yet, it's been a few days. How long does it normally take to hear back?

Thanks for any help, this is my first time ordering a specialty cake.

I would give him about a week to 10 days depending how close you are to your travel dates before you try to e-mail him again - it gets crazy busy especially at this time of year. Sometimes I would get an answer in the same day, other times it would take a little over a week.:thumbsup2

He does take a couple of days off during the week. You might try emailing again, but if you don't hear back soon - you can always call the Contemporary #. I had that happen to me back in October...called and found out Chef Brian was on vacay when I'd emailed...hence the delay. Still, if you've waited a reasonable amount of time and you're getting worried, you might get some peace of mind by calling. Good luck!:goodvibes

We need advice and suggestions. We need to get two cakes for two kids' birthdays in early January. DH is making reservations and arrangements so we can keep this a surprise for the kids. Want to place orders by next week.

The younger kid is a toddler, so we might do a simple cake in Epcot. Don't recall if we'll be at the Grill. If need be, we might pickup a cake in Boardwalk because we don't like whipped frosting.

A few days later, we'd like to get a Rapunzel/Tangled themed cake because it just fits that artistic and dream filled child down to the very, very long hair. Earlier that same day, she'll be getting her first haircut, which she's looking forward to trying a bob. I think we'll be at 1900 Park Fare for the big meal with the cake. DH was originally thinking of the tower with Rapunzel's hair falling down and spelling out our girl's name on the cake. After seeing how many of the Disney images seem to be printed on a flat surface, I'm wondering if I have to provide the exact image or substitute an image of Rapunzel only just get the theme instead.

I've read several posts ranging from Chef Brian, to Mad Hatter style cakes (which we may consider for the Rapunzel cake), and seen some of the beautiful custom cakes. What advice would you give us in communications of design?

This is a great cake, and so faithful to your original sketches. I love the cloudy bubbly border around the bottom!

Yacht & Beach Club delivers to Garden Grill. :thumbsup2

I'm a little fuzzy on the question here, so forgive me if I'm missing the point... A cake with a fondant sculpted tower on top will be astronomically expensive, if they will even do it. Are you asking if you should provide the image you want so they can screen print it on the cake? Because a good compromise between flat screen print and a crazy-over-the-top fondant sculpted tower might be a traditional cake with a standing screen print of the tower on white chocolate, then plastic figures in front of the screen print (you provide the figures).

If you provide the figures do you mail them to the bakery ahead of time? Also do you know if the figures have to be plastic? I've seen some great gum paste/fondant toppers but I wasn't sure if that would be something I would be able to provide. Thank you! :)

People on these cake threads have mentioned mailing in figures before, but as to the rules on what types are acceptable, I'd suggest giving them a call. Only the pastry chef/Private Dining can tell you for sure what they allow. Post #2 has all the numbers by location. :thumbsup2

Confused! Can I order a cake for Rose and Crown in Epcot or not? I read that I cannot get a fondant cake but it looks like you can order a "standard cake." Oddly though, it lists other restaurants in Epcot like Teppan Edo and Marrakesh, but not Rose and Crown. Anyone ordered one from there? Thanks

The first part of the Epcot section explains that ALL restaurants have the same cake offerings EXCEPT the restaurants listed. Which means that if it's not listed, you get what's described in the bullet points at the top of the Epcot section. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the clarification. I think DH was initially thinking either fondant or a wandering trail of icing mimicking the hair which transitions into script.

Do they always write the name on a parchment like add-on or the cake base instead of on the cake directly? This is new to me. Guess it's for last minute changes or corrections.

Thought only the 3-D sculptured figurines were in white chocolate. Also didn't know what the screen was until you explained. Thought it might be some edible sugar paper sort of thing. Might suggest to DH a picture image of Rapunzel daydreaming at the window or by herself with the piles of hair like I've seen on some of the t-shirts for the image, and add on the hair effect. Have found on another cake on this board which shows the braid wrapped around the edges of the cake.

Thank you! I was not reading it that way at all. Maybe I was just too excited about our upcoming trip to actually focus and read.:goodvibes

How long does it usually take to hear from GF on a cake? I called yesterday morning and left a voicemail on Pat's machine for a cake to be delivered to our room on 12/10. Just wondering when I should try back if I don't hear anything.
Thanks!

She will call you back ... I have worked with her twice in the last three months. It took about a week on this most recent request, which I think is reasonable given the holidays and that she only works Tuesday - Saturday (if I remember her voice mail message correctly).

By all means, leave her another message, but I feel quite confident based on my experiences with her that she will get back to you in a few days.

I was the one who had the Rapunzel cake with the fondant braid around the edges as border. It also had an image of Pascal printed on white chocolate standing on the cake. I think it wound up around $125 (can't remember if I posted price with the picture or not).

I went with the "hair" as the border to give the suggestion of Rapunzel without directly putting her on the cake. My DD wants to be an artist when she grows up, so we had to have the artist palette and paint brush. I think it would have been cute to have it designed like Rapunzel had been painting on it, but not sure how that would have been handled.

I have finally got the pictures uploaded from our trip in October. My sister and her husband were celebrating their anniversary so I ordered this cake for them. We had it delivered to Liberty Tree Tavern. It was wonderful!

Hello Lurkyloo and cake chatter fans
I am hoping to order a small cake for my son and to be daughter inlaw :bride:this Jan 2013.
Now the son is just not co-operating with his planner mom ,,,so I have no idea when or where he is going to pop the question. It will be at Disney somewhere.
I am working on a Congratulations gift box, wine, chocolates, etc.(Just engaged).
I have booked them a room at AKL and am wondering if two days notice would be too short of a time for me to give them to have something made up?

Would I call the number list on page #1
407-938-4720 or would I just wait speak to someone at the AKL resort after we arrive?
Thinking a 6 inch custom white cake-white icing with custard and strawberries.
I'd love to have something written on top such as "Congrats on your engagement"--or anything else--open to ideas.

One other thought
are white chocolate and dark chocolate tuxedo strawberries an option ?

I would appreciate any advise you might have
Thanks and
Hugs Mel
