Creative ways to tell kids we are going on a cruise

This July we suprised our 6DD with a Disney Cruise. Thru the disney cruise line website, I was able to arrange for Mickey Mouse to call on a specific date and time. (We arranged for the Monday before the sailing date). The recording told her that Mickey would see her on the ship and that she was going to sail on the Atlantic Ocean. She was thrilled that Mickey Mouse called her & that she was going on vacation. Once the call ended, Mickey Mouse ;) left a package at the front door with some items she would need on the ship - Mickey Mouse T-shirt, autograph book, and other little things. Have your video camera ready - priceless!! Have fun :)

Vickie: Call from Mickey - How fun. And I LOVE the package at the door with needed supplies. Thanks for the ideas

Kimbo: Did you build or purchase the model? Are you hiding it and having the kids follow clues around the house? Sounds fun!

I can't wait to tell them and have them as excited as we are :cool1:

I have a question about the call from Mickey. How does that work? Is it a standard call or can you customize it? Where do I set that up? Thanks.

We had a family game night with our friends who were going and played Pictionary! The kids went nuts. We video taped it but don't share on the web...I will just say, they went NUTS!!!

We purchased it from DCL. I think off the Disney Store website. It is about a foot long, & yes, we are hiding it & clues the kids will find w/ the boat being the treasure. Our oldest will figure it out right away. (she's 11), but it may take the 6 YO & 5 YO a bit to figure out what it means.

We also are doing this present Christmas Eve morning, so they have LOTS of time to process it & ask questions. We'll also have a DCL video ready to roll so they can watch it.

We aren't cruising until Feb, so they have LOTS of time to get used to the idea, lol! (our 11 YO is a bit of a control freak....this may take her a bit to get used to the idea, lol!)

This is an AWESOME idea!
LOVE both the phone call and the gift package!
Disney Magic for sure! pixiedust:

We are surpising our kids ages (11, 9, and 3) with a HUGE box on Christmas morning. It will have disney t-shirts, cruise photo album and picture frame and personalized mouse ears(bought online from Disney store), a coutdown to cruise that I am making, magnets ready to go for door. Hoping if it is one big present all of them will "get it" at the same time. I am hoping we get a great reaction!!!!

Play chades with movie/book/song title "We are going on a Disney Cruise!" and let the kids figure it out.

Last year, we surprised our kids with a WDW trip. On our last night, we were packing up because they thought we were leaving the next day, when all of a sudden they got a call from Mickey and Ariel!! It was great because they thought the trip was over!

After booking our cruise, I found the info on the Disney Cruise Line website. You can choose the date and time of the call and the character that calls (I picked Mickey Mouse, and the call came the Monday before our sailing date). I don't recall where exactly on the website I found it, possibly where you can review your reservation.

Happy sailing everyone :)

We decided to use a puzzle. Each of our four kids will open a gift of 8 pieces and they'll have to put it together :)

Love your puzzle idea...but how did you get it? Is is something you ordered from Tabologist?

We are surprising my 12 year old with a Spring Break Fantasy Cruise. On Christmas morning we're giving her a hand made card using the Disney Cruise scrapbooking sticker, maybe a Disney gift card, and a new bikini for the trip! She's turning 13 on the last day of our cruise, so we'll be celebrating her bday as well. Then at 10:30 after all presents have been opened, Mickey will be calling the house to tell her as well!

Should be fun, but I do like the idea of the puzzle also, so please let me know!

I created the picture from some clipart of Milipie's. I ordered it from personalizationmall.com I got the 26 piece but they also have smaller pieces.

thanks so much, I was just browsing the net to find where you might've had it made. I also have some of Milliepie's work that I was going to use for magnets, a puzzle sounds like so much fun.
