American Girl Doll

My daughters were 7 and 9. My 3 year old wants one but we are starting out with an Our Generation Doll and in a few years we will upgrade to an AG doll. My daughters are now 9 and 11 and they love all their AG dolls.

Thanks for the reply. My DD who turned 9 in Aug who has never played with dolls really has asked for one. There is a little girl across the street who got one for her bday along with the bathroom vanity and tub. My DD was over there playing with her and her AG stuff. DD says she wants to do the dolls hair. DH is not to keen on buying the AG doll just bc she has not really ever played with the dolls she has here.

Mine was 3 when she got Bitty Baby..She is going to be 9 and still plays with them..This year she got McKenna

DD got a Bitty Baby for her 1st bday from Grandma and she was heavily loved. ;)

For her Golden Birthday, she received an American Girl for her 8th birthday, from Grandma.

DD is getting the Bitty Twins this year and she is 5. My nieces who got AG dolls got them from age 7 until age 10 or so.

1 yr old for a bitty baby.. never looked at it....
4 for american girl doll she asked for it (plays with her)
4 a family member split up bitty twins and dd got the girl doll. ( never plays with it)

How old was your child when they got their first American Girl doll?

DS was around 5/6. Didn't really show interest until then. She loves her AG dolls now and plays with them a lot. She is 10 now so the older ones have gotten a lot of use. They are pretty durable if that is a concern.

Dfiance's daughter (6) has had one for about a year. She is NUTS over the stuff. We went to the store in NYC this weekend and it was NUTSO in there! 6 floors of little girls and their dolls. I had heard of them and know my niece has a few but sheeesh! We didn't have to wait in line to get in (thankfully) but it was packed. Cute stuff, million dollar idea!

DD got a Bitty Baby for her 2nd birthday. She wasn't very interested in her (or other dolls) until the past 6 months or so. Now she'll play with BB every once in a while, but really prefers the dolls with hair. She wants a My American Girl doll for her 4th birthday in Feb. I'm debating.

My 2nd dd was 4 when she got her first one. It's not so much just getting the AG doll. The real fun is taking them to the AG store to let them pick it out themselves. It's truly an experience that makes having the AG doll mean that much more.

Oldest DD got her first for her 6th bday. Got her 2nd for her 7th bday. Youngest DD is obsessed with her sister's dolls and is allowed to play with them when oldest DD is Round. Bc she has been so good with them, my parents got youngest (she's 4) one for Christmas. I wasn't thrilled with the idea originally but I think she'll be fine with it. And I know she'll love it

I found a naked Bitty at Goodwill for $1. My daughter was about 15 months at the time. I figured out my daughters premie clothes or my old cabbage patch newborn clothes fit. We also had a hand me down doll stroller. Bitty takes a beating. I would never give a kid this young one again even if free. Bitty is a good size for my now 20 month old but can also be a bit if a weapon due to her hard head. I will say she I'd the doll my daughter loves best despite have a couple other brand new dolls.

Yesterday Bitty was in the play kitchen eating pizza and peas; unfortunately she was upside down at the time.

My DD's were 5 and 8 when they got theirs and have since gotten 2 more each.... when I purchased them I told them they were very expensive and how I expected them to treat them..... my kids make messes out of everything but they have treated these dolls wonderfully and play with them all the time in fact Christmas is all about things for their dolls.

I believe our DD had just turned 9 when Santa brought her first one. She has never really liked playing with dolls but had been asking for one for months. This turned out to be DD's favorite thing she has ever gotten. She now has 2 of them, and even at 12, she loves them. Still doesn't play with other dolls, but loves her AG dolls.

She asked for one when she was 6 and we got it for her for Xmas. She's not really into dolls though, and didn't play with it much. So that's been it for American girl purchases! (I loooooved my Samantha doll when I was little though!) :)

My kids were kind of older when we got started. I think older DD was about 11 when she saved up the money for Kit. As soon as she arrived, younger DD (8 then) had her money out and counted to see how soon she could get one. (It was at that time I learned that my aunt had bought the other great-nieces their AG dolls, but since one DD had saved up the money, the other had to save hers up too.)

Some time in the last year, I found one at Goodwill that was sort of similar to DD11, so it became hers. Then DD14 decided she'd like one with longer hair than Kit's, so the girls pooled their money to buy Marie-Grace so they'd each have two.

They don't get a lot of play these days, but they do enjoy having them for sure. In our house Build-A-Bears have been the most played-with toy!

Ooooo you guys give me hope!! My DD is 8 almost 9 (in Jan) and she has NEVER played with Dolls, hardly even Barbies. But this year she told Gma she wanted one so she is getting one this year from her. I would never spend that much on a doll for a kid whose never shown interest, let Gma spend her money on that kind of thing :lmao: I REALLY hope she plays with her doll. My DD can be so girly but so NOT at the same time. She was never really into Disney Princesses either, at least never when we were at a Disney park LOL. Minnie seems to be her girl. Maybe 9 is the magic number for really playing with dolls? I'll be keeping my fingers crossed

What would the value be of a used doll in good physical condition but with a haircut ( not bad )? Around $50?
