I'm thinking about getting a kindle fire and have a couple questions for anyone that might have one,

1. how are they in airports and on planes, for watching movies, or web surfing.

2. is the screen really big enough to enjoy a movie on [I know their not very big] or see what your doing like checking email, etc.

3. besides for traveling to kill time, what else are they good for.

thanks

I got my fire last year for Christmas. I say it is the best toy ever. I use mine every day. I spend a lot of time in doctors offices and also traveling for work. For me it is the perfect size; easily portable but big enough to see well on. It connects well to most wifi spots. (There is one doctors office I go to where it is hit or miss) I use it mostly to stream TV and movies, check email and facebook, surf the web if I'm not at home, play games and only a little to read. I do have a couple of magazine subscriptions and I really like that. I need some kind of noise to sleep and have found radio apps that are really great. I like that you can download movies or TV shows if you are not going to have a connection.

You can even do work on them but I dont. There are a million apps that allow you to do all kinds of things.

The new ones do even more than mine. And they are pretty rugged.

After I got mine we all liked it so much that both DH and DD got their own.

I have the first Kindle Fire, not the new HD. First of all, at least with mine, you will need wifi in order to watch movies, tv, etc. So if you are wanting to watch movies on a plane you will need to download them to your kindle.

I watch netflix, hulu + and amazon videos on mine daily. It is more than big enough to enjoy that way, not if you want two people to watch, but for one? definitely. I use it to surf the web daily and read my books. I have some games downloaded, but not many. I use it for facebook, twitter, tumblr, youtube and email daily as well. I don't have a regular tablet, so I use my fire like people would use a tablet. I've had mine for almost a year now and really love it, though I am considering upgrading to the HD once I go through all the reviews and see if it is really worth it.

thanks for the reply's.
I broke down and ordered the Kindle Fire HD, I've never used anything like that so it will be a whole new exp.

If I could piggyback on this thread and ask if anyone uses it to listen to their music also? My DD is asking for a new iPod (she has a hand-me-down from my older DS and it's screen is really cracked) but my DD is a book fiend! She checks out 30 books at a time from the library, I'm not kidding! She has a holiday b-day too so she is almost 14. But she loves her music too so I thought this would be better for her if I can figure out how to get her music from iTunes to the kindle. I guess I'm just wondering if it's good for music too?

I am no expert but I plan on downloading my iTunes on to it and Listening to it that way if that is how it is done I am not sure but that is the best way I know how granted I don't have one yet

I have Rhapsody and Slacker and IHeart apps on mine and love it for listening to music. However, I don't know about itunes.

I don't think Itunes works on an Android tablet but you can transfer the music to the Kindle. Just remember if the music is DRM protected you have to have a program to remove the protection convert them.

I have access to my amazon cloud which houses all my music. I'm not sure about getting iTunes music onto the Fire as one is apple and the other is android. I assume you could sideload all that music onto your Kindle though. My husband has an iPod, but in general we aren't an apple family. We download music from amazon and have uploaded all our other music to our amazon cloud, so I use that to listen to my music on my Fire. Plus, I have the Pandora app for when I just want to listen to random stuff.

Talk about FAST shipping, I just ordered mine yesterday from amazon, with free 2 day shipping with amazon prime, It was supposed to get here Wednesday just got an email from ups saying it will be here today. :woohoo:

I don't know if you can put iTunes on an Android device.

I won a Kindle Fire in a drawing at work and am still figuring it out. Downloaded some games and a couple free books. I'm an avid reader and was in the middle of a paperback when I got the Kindle. I'm just now starting to read book on it.

One thing I did find out... there aren't many free apps for the Kindle. HOWEVER, if you have an android phone, you can 'backup' any app on the phone, transfer to the Kindle, and install it.

It's on sale right now on Amazon for $129.00
