Mom & Son Heading to Food & Wine! Nov 9th - 13th! 12/2-Y&Y, MVMCP & Complete!

After spending the afternoon in the MK, we headed over to the new Fantasyland AP Preview. The area is beautiful! And we were lucky enough to get a reservation for BOG for 8:15 (or at least we thought at the time we were lucky!)

DisneyNovember2012125.jpg

First stop was Gastons ...

DisneyNovember2012087.jpg

DisneyNovember2012088.jpg

DisneyNovember2012094.jpg

We tried the LeFou's Brew ...

DisneyNovember2012091.jpg

I really liked the first few sips and then it just became sickening to me. Most of it went into the trash.

Andrew had to try the Pork Shank

DisneyNovember2012092.jpg

And what was left ...

DisneyNovember2012093.jpg

He obviously loved it. I had a few bites and it was good. DS says he prefers the turkey leg though.

Next up we rode Ariel a few times ...

DisneyNovember2012116.jpg

DisneyNovember2012118.jpg

I really loved the ride. It is short though so if there is a long line, it probably wouldn't be worth it.

Off to Belle's Enchanted Tale

DisneyNovember2012123.jpg

DisneyNovember2012134.jpg

This was really a lot of fun. The queue and waiting area was cool. The show was fun to see. Andrew says he doesn't need to see it again, but when DH gets back to the World, I look forward to seeing it with him.

Next up a disasterous dinner at BOG!

I was so excited that we were able to eat at Be Our Guest. Our reservation was at 8:15. Wishes started at 8 so while waiting we got to see the show behind the Castle. It was absolutely amazing. I was so enthralled that I never too a pic. The fireworks right behind the Castle were super close and the ones far off hit over Beast's castle. Truly magical and possibly my new favorite place to see Wishes. Our pager went off about 5 minutes before the finale and I had to wait. They came out looking for us and the woman who sat us ending up watching with us. She agreed that she couldn't let us miss it.

The restaurant itself is beautiful although I admit that I don't like the baby angels on the ceiling. If they are angels, doesn't that mean that they have passed?

Beautiful place setting

Snow ...

DisneyNovember2012142.jpg

On to the food ... first up the rolls and butter.

DisneyNovember2012143.jpg

These were fine, nothing special but not bad

We both ordered soup ...

French Onion ...

DisneyNovember2012144.jpg

This looks great but really wasn't. The cheese was perfect but the soup itself was a bit bland and too sweet. Not a nice rich broth and a bit too much sherry.

Potato Leek

DisneyNovember2012145.jpg

I thought this was Ok. DS hated it. It wasn't very hot and it wasn't pureed smooth. The pieces of potato were small, almost like granuals so texturally it was a bit weird. If we go again for lunch, I would try this again.

I wasn't super hungry so I got the appetizer charcuterie

DisneyNovember2012146.jpg

This was fine. Salami, proscuitto, pate. It was a decent plate.

One to Andrew's meal. Anyone that has read any of my previous reviews knows that he is an adventurous eater. He has never been a chicken nugget kid and enjoys trying new things. He debating between the steak and the pork chop and ended up choosing the pork as it was a bit different.

DisneyNovember2012147.jpg

This was absolutely awful. Single worst meal we have eaten at Disney, or maybe anywhere. The mac & cheese had no taste, not cheese, not salt, nothing. Just a mushy texture. The green beans tasted as if they had been sitting in water, again very underseasoned. Apparantly all of the salt was in the pork. It was dry and super salty. The thyme jus was almost clear, like water with thyme in it. He was going to try to eat it but I stopped him and told the waittress. At first I got the feeling that she thought he wasa fussy teenager but I stressed that he is a great eater and that I tried everything as well. He didn't want anything else as he was afraid it would be equally bad. She ended up taking it off the bill.

We did try two of the cupcakes for dessert ... strawberry cheesecake and chocolate ...

DisneyNovember2012148.jpg

I didn't think the strawberry was all that great but did really enjoy the chocolate. Andrew only had a few bites as he just wanted to leave.

All in all a disaster. Cancelled our March ADR as soon as I got back to the room. ('Ohana here we come! ::yes::). I do want to try lunch. One of the 3 rooms was closed for a private event so I do want to see that. It will take some time before I give dinner another try.

Bummer your BOG experience was so bad. :( And the french onion soup does not seem to have good reviews, maybe it's because the broth is veggie and not beef. :confused3 They have to work out some kinks, it seems.

At Gaston, we loved the shank too! Plenty of meat on that bone! Glad your DS liked it! :thumbsup2

Yes, super amped up awesome about sums it up. The atmosphere was so fun. We met some awesome people. It was really great. We we there early though, not at night when people had been drinking all day. Not sure if that changed anything.

I was there at night and it wasn't too bad, although it was busy and there were a number of pretty obviously drunk people wandering around. It was also Saturday night, which wasn't the best timing.

So sorry to hear that about BoG. Hopefully it will get better the longer its open? :confused3

Yeah, we were bummed. I do think it will get better and that things were pre-plated. The restaurant is huge so they have to get used to cooking for a lot of people in a short time.

I think BOG will get better but I also think it could end up like CRT ... a place you eat more for the atmosphere than the food. I definitely want to try lunch. And I have read some good reviews so we may just have had a really off experience.

Yes, Sat night at food & wine probably would not have been good for us. It must have been mobbed! I am glad we stuck to lunch time!

Late to the party but I'm definitely joining! I always enjoy your reviews. :thumbsup2 So sorry to read about your disappointing BOG experience, hopefully you just caught it on a bad night? It's one I'd really like to try so hopefully they're just experiencing some growing pains.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, looking forward to more! :goodvibes

Thank you! :goodvibes

I definitely think we had a bad night ... although the French Onion Soup seems to get negative reviews. I am sure there are growing pains. I really want to try lunch in March. We are also planning on going back in August. If the menu changes or if the reviews get consistently better, we may give it another try!

Your food pictures look great. I am missing the Food and Wine festival already. It will be a long wait until next year.

Me, too! I can't stop talking to DH about it. Really hope he and I can get there next year!

Thank you for the nice comment on the pictures!

oh my! So sorry about your less than wonderful BOG experience. I truly expected spectacular food being a Signature restaurant. (It is a signature, right?) Now I'm scared to try this place. So it snows? Is that an effect in the windows?

Hi Brenda! I don't know if it is a signature? :confused3 But CRT is and I don't think the dinner food is on par with the other signatures so that is what I expect will be the case with BOG. I definitely think we had an off night. Growing pains. It is a huge restaurant so there probably will be a curve to getting it right. But Andrew's meal was truly awful so we will wait a bit to go back. I do want to try lunch in March. And maybe if reviews get better we will give it another try next August. (Although Andrew says no way!)

The snow effect outside is really cool. Looks like a night time storm on Beast's mountain. Definitely cool atmosphere. It actually blows around as if the wind picks up now and then. Really neat.

Edited: I just looked at Disney's site ... not a signature. : )

First of all I will have to tell Eilee about that pork shank. She is crazy over turkey legs so maybe she'll like that too (even if it's not quite as good, it'll be something different for her to try!).

But so sad to hear that your BOG experiences was a disaster. How disappointing to get a chance to try this brand new place and then the food is not so great. I'm sad about the onion soup because I love the soup at Chefs. I sure do hope it's a "new" thing. I've been trying to get an ADR for BOG every day for our trip in February but I think I might hold off and just do CS instead. Or if we do get an ADR, I will have to try something other than the pork chop!

Good plan! The soups are available for lunch. I do plan to try them both again in March. If you go in February I hope it is much better!

And I definitely think Eilie will like the pork if she likes the turkey leg. I liked the pork better but I didn't eat much

Sorry to hear BOG wasnt all that spectacular. Hopefully as you said, they are just growing pains and it will get better with some time.

I'm so sorry BOG was a let down for you! If I recall correctly my DH and I were there a day or so before you and really enjoyed it! Although I do think those cupcakes are a sad excuse for a dessert offering.

Hopefully the previews helped to sort out this inconsistency.

Hopefully BOG improves a bit when we're there in January! I LOVE french onion soup so a bad version of it would be so sad. I had read somewhere that the french onion soup is made with a vegetable stock instead of the traditional beef. I'm not sure if that's true, but that would definitely alter the flavor.

It is vegetarian. The guard at the 'gate' made sure to tell us on our way out.

Great review! Enjoying the pictures too! I'm excited to read the rest, thanks for sharing!

Lets get this finished up! Monday morning we slept in a bit and went to Animal Kingdom. We started out at Pizzafari for a "snack".

Andrew had the pepperoni pizza and cesaer salad

DisneyNovember2012166.jpg

I had the hot italian sandwich with chips (that were saved for later)

DisneyNovember2012167.jpg

The pizza was typical Disney pizza but the sandwich was really good! Already planning to get one in March! :thumbsup2

Have to share the picture of the Goofy Son with the Goofy Tree ...

DisneyNovember2012169.jpg

And some silly friends ...

DisneyNovember2012173.jpg

We had a very relaxing day wandering the Park and enjoying the animals

DisneyNovember2012179.jpg

Before a late lunch at Yak & Yeti!

We were seating downstairs behind the stairs. I didn't like it as much as the times we have been seated upstairs. I felt forgotten service-wise a few times.

We shared the potstickers and green beans to start

DisneyNovember2012183.jpg

Very good as always. Love those green beans!

Andrew had the ribs

DisneyNovember2012184.jpg

I wasn't super hungry and knew I had to have room for dessert so I had the lettuce cups

DisneyNovember2012185.jpg

These are very good. Similar to PF Changs for those that have eaten there. Very light and fresh. I loved them.

And of course ... the whole reason for eating here ....

DisneyNovember2012186.jpg

The wontons! Ah, heaven on a plate. I really am going to try to recreate these at home!

After we ate we found a spot for the Jingle Jungle parade. We missed this when we had our Christmas trip so I made a point of planning to see it this year. I am so glad we did. I absolutely loved it!

100_0589.jpg

100_0596.jpg

Animal Kingdom always feels so much hotter than the other Parks when we are there in August. Not so this trip. We had a wonderful afternoon.

From AK we headed over to the MK for MVMCP ...

100_0598.jpg

100_0599.jpg

This was the first time for us and it was everything we wanted it to be. I enjoyed the holiday magic, Andrew rode Space Mountain 8 times! :)

Not much food ... Andrew did have a toffee bar

100_0611.jpg

And I took pics of the holiday treats ...

100_0601.jpg

100_0600.jpg

We shared the Philly Cheesesteak Hot Dog which just shouldn't be as good as it is!

100_0614.jpg

We also had a cream cheese pretzel but I don't see to have a picture of that. :headache:

Cookies and Hot Chocolate

100_0615.jpg

I really enjoyed the Christmas parade with the snow falling on Main Street. It was absolutely magical!

100_0699.jpg

The end of what was an absolutely fantastic weekend. I feel so blessed that we were able to go!

100_0702.jpg

One last food pic ... on Tuesday morning we decided to hang in the room until we had to catch the ME. Andrew had homework and wasn't feeling well. I got a make your own salad at the All Star Music food court ...

100_0703.jpg

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. I got just about everything offered except onion and had it with steak. The steak was tender and very lean, not fat at all. Really a great salad.

Then we were sadly off to the ME. What a difference the ride to the airport is from the ride to the Resort! Andrew felt fine when we got there and had McDonalds before we boarded! No pics!
