Sleeping 4 in a studio?

Looking at possibly renting points for next summers trip. The price is similar for Savannah view AKL studio, Standard view BLT, Preferred Boardwalk...
I really don't want to spend the extra money for a 1 bedroom. How comfortable is it sleeping 4 in any of the studios listed above? It would be me, hubby, 17 & 9 year old. So obviously the two kids would have to be on the sofa bed. I am starting to think that is just not realistic because the 17 year old is pretty tall. Is there anyway you can fit a twin sized cot in addition to the sofa bed pulled out? I am sure they would sleep a lot better if not in the same bed.. lol I have considered a one bedroom because with the king sized bed our 9 year old might sleep with us or if we get in one of those that sleep 5 with the sleeper chair--that would be perfect. It's just the extra money is almost a deal breaker. Do you think we will be cramped as you know what in a studio?

We just stayed in a BLT studio in October. I think BLT has the smallest studios of all DVC resorts. It was myself, DD8, My friend and her DD9. We put the girls on the sofa. The sofa bed was actually very comfortable...nothing like the rinky dink sofa bed my parents have. However, I think it would be uncomfortable for a 17 year old due to their height. My friend and I slept on the bed. It worked out great for us. We had room to walk to the balcony or in between the bed and the sofa bed. However with the sofa bed out, there was no way you would get a twin cot or air mattress in that studio unless someone slept out on the balcony.

We rented points and spent 1/4 of what we would have spent for a cash reservation to Disney for the same time period for the same room ( I priced it out). However, when I started looking at one bedrooms through DVC and cash reservations with 30% discount, the difference was minimal and I probably would go with cash reservation to get maid service everyday. We never used the kitchen area except to brush our teeth ( if someone was in bathroom). We tend to eat out when on vacation.

It sounds like we just need to either go with a one bedroom- maybe the least expensive one because the king size bed will help a lot. Or go with a regular room in one of the moderates so we will have two queen beds. It's just so tempting to rent the points and stay at a deluxe hotel which we normally wouldn't be able to afford unless a fantastic deal came out.

We were debating doing a studio suite at akv versus the one bedroom at akv and after advice from here and looking at pictures online we decided to do the one bedroom. The studio suites look very small. We have two kids ages 8 and 4 and did not want to feel cramped. We have stayed offsite at the Hilton at sea world and loved the space.

We got a 35% off with the current deal for January. For us totally worth the splurge.

I stayed in an AKV studio with my daughter and niece last January. It was pretty tight. I wouldn't attempt it with 4 people. When the sofa bed is open, you have a tough time getting to the balcony. The sofa bed is comfortable but it is only a full size bed. It took a lot of creativity to find a place for the coffee table and all of the cushions. Storing the luggage was another problem. I don't see how you could get a cot in there without tripping over it.

The studios at OKW have 2 beds, not a bed and a sofa bed, so it might be an option for you if you're set on staying in a studio. They are also much larger than any of the other studios on property. But I'm not sure that you could comfortably fit a cot in there, either. An air mattress that can be leaned up against the wall during the day might be a better option. My brother did that last summer when he was at OKW with his kids.

If you decide to go with a 1-bedroom, AKV (Kidani) and BLT 1-bedroom units have a second full bathroom. It makes for a much easier morning when you're not all trying to use one bathroom.

I have done 4 adults at a standard room at POR and 3 adults at a studio at SSR.

I felt like we had more room at the standard room, and we were more comfortable.

I let the two adults share the queen bed and I took the sofa bed; moving the coffee table and finding places to stash the sofa pillows was tough. I had to lay sideways to get comfortable. By weeks end, I didn't even open it up anymore. I cannot imagine sharing it.

We had less drawer space. The closet was taken up my extra blankets, pillows, and a vacuum cleaner. I insisted on unpacking; one of the girls ended up living out of her suitcase.

We only had one sink, instead of two at POR.

It is going to be tight, but people say they can do it. Unfortunately, I was not one of them.

DVC resorts will not provide a cot. Your only option is to bring an air mattress but I have no idea how it would even fit. You might get it to fit at OKW, definitely not at BLT, others are debatable as well.

Have you thought about a regular room at a MK deluxe? CR, Poly & I'm pretty sure GF rooms will have 2Q plus a daybed & the square footage is larger. BC has daybeds as well but I think they are only guaranteed with a party of 5.

I can't imagine a 9-year old being happy sharing a bed with her parents. I still think that you would have more space in a regular room at a moderate than with 4 people in a studio.

Definitely.

We have a party of 4 this year at POR, but we want to stay in the mansions. I will have one queen bed; my friend and her daughter are going to share the other queen bed; and her son will be on the twin air mattress.

I have used it before and we propped it up against the wall of the closet during the day to get it out of the way.

Also, POR has preferred buildings in AB; that have the murphy bed, as well as two queens.

We usually stay in studios...it would be myself at 5'8'', dd (19) at 5'11'' and dh at 6'4''. I usually share the bed with dd, while dh takes the sleep sofa. But, that's just the three of us.....not sure how your 17 y/o would feel about sharing with the 9 y/o. You might be able to squeeze in a twin aero bed someplace...maybe down towards the door.
Even if you get a regular room, they are going to have to share, or bring that inflatable bed. Or, pay for the onebedroom villa. When we stayed in one, the twin aero fit perfectly beneath the kitchen bar area!!!! Out of the way completely!! And the kids didn't need to share the bed.

Of those three, BLT is easily the smallest. We stayed in BLT and AKL studios this year, and BLT was indeed 'cramped as you know what'. I don't believe you would be able to get a cot or air mattress to fit at BLT, IMHO.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions I think I am going to scratch the idea of studio for all of us. Either a room at POR sounds good or possibly renting points for a one bedroom. Someone made a comment about a 9 year old sleeping with their parents, well unfortunately he still does occasionally. Hard habit to break I guess. But at least with the one bedroom there would definitely be room for a twin air mattress or cot--either in the bedroom or somewhere in the living/eating area.

I will also suggest going with a Moderate. We have gotten an extra rollaway, several times, at both POR and CSR, it fit in the room just fine and Kids were happy ( had to do this at POR when trundle bed room was not available, otherwise the trundle works fine for a 9 and under year old, I have even slept on it )

Incorrect. POR no longer has rollaways, because they changed to queen beds and rollaways do not fit in order to comply with fire codes.

If you are not a family of 5 or booked in preferred, you should plan on using an air mattress.

It can be placed against the wall in the closet. I have done that since the refurbs.

The studios at OKW fit the four of us (2 adults and 2 older teens) nicely. The 2 queen beds were the reason we chose this DVC resort - even though the AKL was very tempting. In the end, we went with the more practical choice for our family. You would definitely have enough floor space for a twin air mattress in a OKW studio.
