I love the WDW bus, boat launch, monorail, and sidewalk transportation system.
I use my own mobility
scooter that takes apart and fits in the trunk of my car.
But, I can't take all the heavy parts of the scooter out of the trunk and put all the pieces together and reverse the process everytime that I want to drive somewhere anymore. Actually, I have take it apart or put it together four times just to go to one park or destination and back to the resort again. And repeat the process if I have to go to more than one destination.
Some day, I will be able to afford a better mobility scooter and a larger vehicle like a suv or minivan that will have an interior lift to assist me. I might drive around then sometimes if there are a lot of other wheelchairs and mobitily scooters at the resort. I really haven't had that experience of having a way to transport my mobility scooter except for taking it apart. The WDW bus system solves this problem for me.
There was a time, years ago before I bought my own mobility scooter, that I thought that I would never be able to enjoy WDW anymore because it became almost impossible for me to walk more than 100 feet without falling down if I couldn't find a place to sit down. I could rent a ECV at the parks, but getting from my room to the bus and from the bus to the park became almost impossible. And there were days when I thought that I might never make it back to my room at the end of the day using the same procedure in reverse after leaving the ECV at the park.
I love the WDW transportation systems.
I can go anywhere in WDW using my mobility scooter without using my car.
It is truely magical to me.
It allows me to experience the Magic that everyone on the DISboards enjoy talking about.
Without it...I would probably never visit WDW again.
I travel by myself usually. I love going down every December to see all of the WDW Christmas decorations and music at all of the parks and resorts.
I love just sitting back at the end of the street in DHS and enjoying the Osborne Family Spectacular of Dancing Lights.
I love watching the Epcot Candlelight Processional.
I love watching all of the parades and fireworks at the parks.
I love watching the smiles and laughter of people watching in the parks.
I love meeting up with friends that I have met here on the DISboards forums and many other Disney forums when I travel in December.
I enjoy getting a chance to see AllEars.Net Deb Wills, and many of her staff at meet and greets. And meeting up with different Disney authors and podcasters by chance or at other Disney meet and greets.
And all of this is possible because I can use my own scooter, and I can use WDW bus system to go to all of the parks or resorts or DTD.
And I can use the boat launches to travel from MK to WL or FWCG to see all of the Christmas decorations. I just love seeing all of the evening camper's Christmas decorations. Or use the boat launches at Epcot and DHS to see the Swan and Dolphin, Beach and Yacht Club and Boardwalk.
I can also visit by bus, Coronado Springs Resort and Caribbean Resort and travel around their lakes. Such a beautiful stroll around the lake during the day. I look forward to visiting the new Animation Resort.
Or use the DTD boat launch to visit OKW and SSR and POR. I really like this boat ride in the evening or day time as the boat travels along the canal under the trees.
And the sidewalks on a beautiful day and nighttime with their well lighted sidewalks to visit the Boardwalk area and after a busy day at DHS, I ususally use the wide sidewalks to leisurely travel back to the Swan or Boardwalk Resorts instead of using the busier boat launch. I love the travelling along the sidewalks from OKW to SSR to DTD.
So to me...I am very thankful for all the WDW transportation.
And if you simply ask me, I will be happy to wait for another bus. I would much rather someone ask me not board so that they can get on instead of making demeaning remarks to me or at me as they walk by me in line. Or point their finger at me and shake their heads as if I am doing something wrong. When this happens to me on those late nights when leaving a park, I try to smile and think to myself that they must be stressed out, and wouldn't normally say such things to a complete stranger. Or maybe, if they are really miserable like that all of the time; especially if they are yelling at their children, too; that I would worry and hope for the best for their children. The children are usually looking sad and some have even walked by me in the bus line and whispered, "...I'm sorry..." after their father or mother have passed. Life is too short. I just try to think what that person must be going through to make them say such mean things or act in such a demeaning way and I internally try to wish them well and hope things get better for them.
WDW is my happy place.
Yes, I am very thankful, and very grateful for the many, many nice people that I meet and enjoy talking about Disney while waiting in any line and on the bus. In comparison, there are very, very few rude people. I am glad that I try not take it so personally as I might have in years past. I now notice all the nice folks and feel so grateful that there are so many nice, kind and helpful people in this world. All I might be able to do is smile for the kindness if the meeting is brief, and the words are kind, or the smile is gentle. But inside my heart, I am very thankful for such gentle, kind people. I always remember the kindness and the smile even though I may never meet you again. I thank you for this. I really do.
