Sofa bed comfortable?

We are going on the Disney Fantasy in May. We have a Cat 5A - Deluxe oceanview with veranda for 4 of us. It states a single convertible sofa bed and pull down bed. I am wondering how comfortable the sofa bed is. My DD will be 15 and has had some trouble with discs in her back from dancing. We went on a Royal Caribbean cruise with a sofa bed and my husband and I had to take turns trying to sleep on it. It was the most uncomfortable bed that I have ever experienced. We went on the Wonder when she was 11 and there were no complaints about the bed but there is a huge difference in 11 and 15. I just want to be prepared or see if we should try to change to a stateroom with a different layout.

The third person in any room will be sleeping on either the sofa bed, or a pull down bed. That's just the way the rooms are set up. The Deluxe Family Oceanview with verandah has the same configuration, but with a murphy bed that pulls down out of a cupboard near the window.

Hi, We have been on the Dream twice. The second time we had the bed that pulled down into a single bed, it was not the full sofa pull out. The one that pulled down from the wall as a single bed was comfortable. I too have back issues, but because I am overweight, not because of athletic issues. I slept on the bed 2 of the 3 nights and I woke up just fine with no arthritic issues.

We've not been on the Fantasy. Our DSs (both tall, slim boys) have slept on the sofa bed on the Wonder, and they felt it was fine. It's not the traditional type of sofa where you pull the bed out of the seat area of the sofa. It's more like the pullman train car bed, the back of the sofa folds down on top of the seat and theres an actual mattress.

I've read that the murphy bed seems more like a "real" bed, but have no experience with it.

Murphy bed was very uncomfortable for our son on Fantasy. Almost every night he would wake up moaning (therefore wake up us too... blah!). Stateroom host did his best to add some cushion but it didn't help much. Anyway, for him the sofabed on Fantasy was fine, as was the convertible sofa on the Dream. No problems at all with either of them.

I LOVE Disney, but!......I gave up the bed on two different cruises (letting my guest have the bed to be nice). Those sofa beds are very uncomfortable. I actually am sore the next day from sleeping on them.
Yes I have expressed my opinion on the survey sheet.
The last cruise I opted to sleep on the sofa part of the sofa bed. That was more comfortable, but you had to sleep on your side because of space on the seating part of the sofa.
I believe if there were more adults versus kids sleeping on the sofa bed, that they might get more attention.

I'm cruising on the 12/1 Fantasy and will be sleeping on the sofa bed. If you can wait for an answer until I get back - I'll let you know what I think of the sofa bed. And for the record - I can give Oscar the Grouch a run for their money if I don't get a good nights sleep!!

My 15 y/o niece slept on the sofa bed on our 7-night Fantasy this summer and never complained.

Due to constant headaches, I pack my own pillow everywhere. I use a spare pillow sham to put over it while travelling and then have my usual pillowcase underneath for sleeping. For me personally, comfort in any bed is improved by having the extra pillows to mimic my body pillow at home. I'm sure your room steward will bring anything you think would help make her comfortable.

On the Magic last month we mentioned that the sofa bed was terrible. Our little girl couldn't sleep there.. i tried and couldn't.
So the stateroom hostess but a thick pad there everynight.. I think she folded a duvet or something and placed it under the bottom sheet, then it was no problem for our daughter. ( Hence extra tip and good comment on questionaire)

So glad she didn't have to sleep with us for the week!! Because our bed was a queen, or small king and we are use to big beds!

I thought I read somewhere on the DIS that you could request an egg crate mattress topper. Does anyone know if that's true and if it helps?

My 22 year old son, who is 6'2", slept on the sofa bed for 7 nights last week and never complained once. Although some mornings we did struggle to get him off it lol

I slept on the sofa bed on the Dream last January. It was very uncomfortable for an adult. We also had a Murphy bed and it was a slight improvement. I plan to do 7 nights on the Wonder next summer and am thinking about bringing an egg crate somehow. If the ship has them, though, that would be a big help.

We take an egg crate topper with us for the sofa bed. Otherwise, it is just too uncomfortable. I would love to be able to request that...? Anyway, we just bring a cheap one (you can find them under $10) and leave it there when we leave. The host/hostess just makes the bed over it. It has never been a problem. It takes up packing space on the way to the cruise, but I just say that space is for souveniers!

About what size is the sofa bed? I've got a feeling I'll be sleeping on it with my daughter. Possibly son. I guess whichever one wants to that particular night. That could get tight if it's just twin size.

Has anyone sailed recently and was able to request an egg crate for the sofa bed? If it didn't take up so much luggage space, I would bring one with me. But seriously, I will have a horrible night's sleep if I am stuck on the sofa again without something. My much older parents need the bed, but I'm the one who fronted the bill! It would stink to sleep so poorly for the vacation I worked hard for.

I was on the Dream in March and slept a number of times with my 2 year old on the sofa bed. I thought it was great and I'm used to sleeping on a tempurpedic! I have a pretty significant herniated disc from a gymnastics injury when I was young and the bed gave me no issues at all.
