We plan on eating at California Grill for an early dinner on the way into Magic Kingdom, on the evening of January 1. Will there be a problem if we're dressed for the park, and not in business casual attire?

We ate there as a break from MK last month and had no issues. We were all in shorts/T-shirts (nothing totally ratty, but sneakers and shorts nonetheless).

The dress code for California Grill(and the other signature restaurants) is resort casual, which means dress shorts, jeans, etc. are allowed. You will see people dressed in various things: business attire, semi-forml wear, jeans and shorts. Whatever you are comfortable in is fine. I ate there for dinner in jeans and was fine. You basically need to be neat and clean, that's all.

These days at Disney, you could wear nothing but bicycling shorts and oven mitts and you'd be fine..

We were there last week and saw everything from sweatshirts to formal gowns. That went for most of the signatures pretty much.

It'll be a mix for sure.

And honestly--no one will even be giving you a second glance.

And to note--you'll see just as many folks in cargo style shorts as you will in "dress" shorts.

People have already covered what's allowed. I'll just add that you need to consider your own comfort level. There will be people at California Grill dressed in shorts and sneakers, but there will also be suits and cocktail dresses. I don't dress to the nines at California Grill, but most do think of it as a "special" restaurant and dress in respect of that. I would feel underdressed there in shorts and a t-shirt. If you wouldn't, then go for it, but you should consider that if you're self-conscious (like me).
