Spring 2013 Professional Internships

Sure I guess :( though the more people that get it, the less room for me.

{{{HUGS}}} There's lots retail locations, you are still in the running until you are NLIC, yk?

So the update is another person (a girl) posted that she just accepted Retail MI.

I am so sad. Someone on the FB group posted that he moved to Post interview stage for the only internship that I had a second interview. HRIS Call Center. They also sent him the DWSS application which is the background paperwork before they hire you.

There was only one opening. Two other people posted that today they went NLIC for the position. I know that they had narrowed the field to 10 and then only interviewed five. Don't know if the two were part of the ten or the five. In any case, my dashboard has not changed. I can only assume that I am the second choice just waiting to see it the guy accepts and then they will NLIC me too.

I am happy for him, but really sad for me. I don't know anything officially...just guessing based on the other postings. I only have two more internships that might want me and I have nothing from either so it seems like those aren't going to work out either.

Feel sorry for myself or Ice Cream? Can't decide...most likely a little of both

Omg dh got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's totally separate from the other update BTW. He just called me and holy moly I can't even explain the excitement I feel for him. This is his dream and I hope it opens all the doors for him that he desires.

I really am so happy for both of you. You have been so stressed, and I really felt for you. It is nice to hear someone got good news today!:thumbsup2

Not hearing might just be good news. Try not to get discouraged (although I am, so I not one to give advise) but there are still more slots and you could get one.

I am NLIC for retail MI. :(
Good luck to everyone else.

I'm so sorry. I know how much you wanted this. Hey-do your cp and then you will rock your next interviews and I'm sure you'll get it!

I, too, went NLIC tonight.

I just wanted to tell everyone it was great having this board to come to for advice and updates. I am really happy for everyone that has gotten it and those who will get it. For myself, I am going to go back to TN and enjoy life and still come at least twice a year for visits! Maybe I will see some of you around!

Thanks. I thought for sure you'd get it. I'm kind of Disney heartbroken right now so it's hard to even fathom doing the cp, even though I am. Also, not sure I'd ever try for a management PI again because I worked so hard to get through all the rounds this time and nothing good came of it, so I'm kind of scared to do that again. Who even knows if I could make it through all the rounds again? Maybe this was just a lucky shot and the result was proof I didn't belong :( It's super hard to handle getting rejected from Disney. I now understand what other NLIC's go through. It's not even like I had my hopes too high because I was being a realist, but I'm still shattered over it :(

If it makes you feel better, DH tried before and didn't make it past the screening interview. He was really hesitant to try again this year but look what happened!

I hope you do take the CP. Take that opportunity to market yourself to the retail managers and then try again! :goodvibes

And being NLIC does not mean you don't belong there! You can't control who applies and how much experience that person has or how they sell themselves or who they know. You can just focus on making yourself the best candidate possibly.

I'm sorry you went NLIC. At least that makes it easy for you to finalize your decision to go home to TN. Good luck!! :goodvibes

Ugh that sucks. That's one of the bad things about the 'net. You end up knowing too much sometimes. Ihope he's offered something else and this one opens up for you. ;)

YES. This is EXACTLY what happened to me. The first person they offered the role I'm currently in to turned it down a week or so later to take a different role, and I got offered this one. So it's not all over.

Thanks. This was my second time applying for it too though. I've applied 2 semesters ago but didn't get far at all. I got further this time, but it just wasn't enough I guess. Don't really feel like my chances would be any better next semester - probably worse. A lot of people do PIs after graduation and more people graduate in May than December, so most likely even more people will be applying for the Fall 2013 PIs. I graduate in December, so my last to chance to apply for PIs anyway is for Fall '13 since being in the CP counts towards PI requirements (since I won't be in school). Super bummed.

I am doing the CP (mostly because I don't have any other job lined up and I've already paid the fees), but I'll be in Hospitality. So, it will be hard for me to connect with retail managers. My merchandise training at Disney has expired, so it's not like I can pick up shifts either. No idea where to even improve on how my interviews went. I thought I did well. I was pretty much told a lot of what I said in my interview by my former manager. So, I don't know what they're looking for when I took advice straight from a manager.

I'm still in interview stage for CP Alumni Only PIs, but little hope for it now.
:worried:

Excuse my negativeness. Just really bummed out. Congrats to everyone else.

This a big help and I really appreciate you sharing your impressions. Between you and Disneygirlie I feel that I have to real direction for my exploring. Overall I have six days there, but I do want to spend sometime relaxing. Between work, school and the application process...I am so tired. Tonight it might snow, sigh. However I am so grateful to not a an east coast resident that I will not complain anymore.

As for the teenagers, I am like you, I don't dislike them but I have no patience for that much noise. This is exact why I would not like living in a crowded apartment. I like being peaceful at home and seeking noise and excitement elsewhere.

The PI I am hoping for, stated a decision will be made by the end of the week. I have my fingers crossed, but I am trying not get to excited but because there is one spot and five great final applicants. I have decided either way to make the move to Orlando permanent. This is really scary for me but this information helps the process....THANKS!:goodvibes

Your very welcome!!! Good luck on the PI, I'm sure everything will workout :)

I promise doing the CP will only help you get the PI! Plus, arrange a meet n' greet with a retail manager while you are down here. On a day off, ask any merchandise cast member for their managers name. Look up the manager's phone number or e-mail address on the HUB. Send them an e-mail asking to arrange a meet n' greet, and tell them you are a current CP and a PI hopeful. In theory this is supposed to be an informal meeting, but treat it like an interview! Ask questions about how they got where they are today, and what you can do now as a current CP to improve your chances.

This is the advice I got, and I found it super helpful! Also, tell EVERYONE you want to apply for the PI! Your trainers, co-workers, managers, coordinators. You never know what advice they might have, or who they might know. Good luck!

I know and I'm excited to get the training in a new role. But I've already done a CP and doing another (after college graduation) seems kinda stagnant or even moving backward. Ok I'm done being a negative nancy.

It is okay to grieve for your loss but you have to look at it another way: there a ton of qualified candidates applying for these positions. You can't help who applies and hiring isn't 100% hit in the hole, that one answer will win you all. You aren't on the other side of the table and you don't know what the other candidates have done or said. In this job market and economy, it is fairly normal to receive quite a few rejections. And the rejections aren't necessarily about you, it is simply that someone else could've said or had more qualifications or had something that tipped them over. You shouldn't overthink it, if you think you did well, then it just wasn't your turn this time. If you want it, keep trying and connect more during your CP. Get yourself out there and don't give up hope. Keep trying, rejection is tough but you still have the CP and you've been accepted before. That is a good sign, you should never take a rejection personally ever. They're not rejecting you personally, it is just quite a few people out there, and you should feel ecstatic you got to the final rounds, that means they saw something in you. But they did have limited spaces. It means you're more likely to be closer next time.

I am feeling your pain. However I might be able to be of help. I have a CP in merchandising. Perhaps you can stop by from time to time and I can introduce you to retail managers.

I have to admit that I am feeling much like you are, I was so excited for going as a PI and being a CP seems like a settling. BTW Hospitality was my first choice...how life is full of twists. I have decided that Disney is Disney and I will make the best of it regardless of my location or status.

I wish you were right, but the guy on FB posted that he accepted the position this afternoon. My only hope is that he gets offered a better positon and they seek me out. If not I will work my CP and be happy.

I am trying really hard to smile and go on, but I am still sad. It really changes everything I was expecting, so I have to make a new plan.

Regardless, thanks for all the support. It helps:grouphug:

Well it doesn't look look good right now, but I will be try to positive and move forward.

My degree to be is forensic accounting. Perhaps you could introduce me to some of your managers or send me the names of people that it would be good to talk with at some point later in the season. It might help for the next round of internships.

Regardless I am going to spend the winter in Florida and that is a good thing!
