Disney Just Bought LUCASFILM LTD. = Star Wars Franchise

:thumbsup2

This is making for a wonderfully entertaining afternoon - geek Internet media is exploding. I for one couldn't be more pleased! Lucas of course won't be completely out of the picture but the best stuff has always been the projects he didn't write/direct himself. Looking forward to seeing where this takes the franchise.

I hope it is not a far fetched dream to want Pixar to do a Star Wars movie. Live action...but I think their writers and directors could make a real good Star Wars.

NOPE.

It is not the "official" Star Wars anything. ;)

That is a JOKE video post.

Really Darn it. Its not going to a Star Wars/Roller Boogie remix jam.

.

I wasn't going to post it, but it is WDW related.

I think it is funny house Universal licenses desired franchises for their parks, but Disney just buys the whole company that owns the desired.

For example, UOR wants to build WWoHP, they get a license from Warner Bros. Disney wants to build Star Wars Land (though we don't know this), they buy Lucasfilm.

Recently, though, Disney has been incorporating a lot of non-Disney stuff into their parks like Pixar (even though they've been with the co. since its start), Avatar, and now Star Wars.

lucas film stuff has always been in disney parks... HS has had star tours and indy for a long time, not to mention they do star wars weekend

Wow... Just wow.... There's good stuff brewing at Disney for the future. If the New Fantasyland is any indication the good stuff is certainly on its way. Hopefully they can continue riding the wave of goodness. :thumbsup2

I think its because Disney wants to control it all and doesn't want someone else controlling any part of what they own.

Let's say they own the theme park rights and Lucus decides to sell the comic book rights to someone else. Disney now has no control over what that character does in the comics. They want it all from snout to tail.

Quick! Somebody check my pulse to make sure I haven't died and gone to heaven!

Seriously this news makes me positively GIDDY and is long overdue.

I really hope that means that Star Wars Land will be on the way!

And it's not just Star Wars, it's also the Indy franchise.

Wow. This is massive news. I am shocked as a Star Wars fan that Lucasfilm got bought out so quickly after Lucas left. This is bigger than Disney's first attempt at buying Jim Henson Company right before he left. Let the Star Wars land rumors start.

Lucas is the only shareholder. He hasn't "left", well, until today that is! He personally makes 4 billion in the deal, not too shabby!
