Grand California and Air conditioning

GCA has recently installed sensors on door that will shut the A/C off 4 min after u leave the room!! If the sensor does not read you entering the room, it will not cut on!! We had maint in room at 12am about the air. When you return to your $500+ a night room from a day in the heat, the room is just as hot. I opened and closed my door at least three times during the night to get the air to cut on. I am not happy with GCA!

Yea that would piss me off as well. I like it cold when I sleep and if I had to get up to make the AC turn on I would not be happy. Esspecially if I was paying big bucks to stay there.

Ugh...thanks for the heads up. Did they come up with a work around to solve your problem?

Well that would explain how musky it was the entire trip last week... I also forgot to take the fan off auto to be on all the time.

They came in the room open and re closed the door and waived their hand in front of the thermostat. He said that you need to do that and if someone leaves the room and the other stays, the ac will cut off and they need to open the door to cut it back on!! He said they were constantly getting calls!

I stayed at GCH twice - both trips in September. My major complaint was how COLD the lobby and rooms were! Maybe this was their ill-fated way of dealing with the polar-ice-cap issue.

OMG the Lobby is freezing all year long!

I live close by so we frequent DL!

Whatever the time of year, the Lobby at GCH is so cold! :cold:

OP, what does GCA stand for?

Oh the hall and lobby was fine. The rooms were terrible. They just installed these sensors. Even my grand baby was complaining in his way of being hot! My first and last trip to Disneyland..I am DVC and will stay in Florida...food trays stayed in the hall the entire day and night..not just one, but several ..even room service carts! The ice machine did not work and bell service did not offer with the luggage when we pulled up. They just stood there and I had to go and ask if they could bring a cart. Cast members would talk to each other while waiting on you, the parks were dirty and dark....I will say that carsland was awesome though.

This system must not be installed in all rooms. I stayed in a hotel room in September and a villa in October, and there were regular thermostats.

Hold the temp down button and the system power button simultaneously. "BP" will display on the screen. The motion sensor requirement is now bypassed for 24 hours. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

I have added this information to the Grand Californian Superthread.

Had this problem in Mexico... Hubby would leave for coffee and dd & I would still be sleeping... But in Mexico all the power went out! Had to stick my foot out of the cover and wave it around to click everything back on, I understand the why (being more environmentally friendly) and all but it's a pain! Lol

That is silly they do that with the AC. My husband left many times while we were there (to get takeout, ice etc). I never noticed an issue though.

Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

They have also put these thermostats in the DL Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel. If you have control over those threads, the info would probably be helpful there as well.

I've stayed in a hotel where the room card key would need to be placed in a special slot to activate the air conditioning (this was many years ago, I can't even remember the country) :headache:

The bellman provided an extra card to essentially defeat the system and keep the air conditioning running :thumbsup2
Grand Californian bellmen need to share the "override trick"
