Apologies if this question has been asked before, but I noticed on our last cruise before the sail away party on deck &before dinner each evening in the artium there were waiters walking round with trays of alcoholic drinks

Is there a charge for these :confused3

Many thanks :thumbsup2

Yes Absolutely. The drinks are free during the Captains Reception only.

The drinks before the sail away party are not free. They run about $10 with the keepsake cup.

The only times drinks are offered before dinner and are free are during the Captain's Reception in the Atrium.

Does the 3 Day Dream Cruise have a Captain's Reception now? If so, which night is it and in the main lobby?

Someone please give some more information on the Captain's Reception. I have been on a couple of cruises, and have never heard if this

It is held in the atrium and the Captain and senior staff stand and you can speak with them or have photos. The servers walk around with trays of drinks and you can take one if you want. It is held before early dinner and then again before late dinner.

On the 7 day cruises this is on formal night.

On the 7-day the captains reception is held on Formal night. On the 3/4 day cruises the captains reception is held on "Dress-Up" night. There are opportunities to meet with the captain and get your picture taken with him and other senior officers.

Yes - there is a charge for both the drink and the glass. So they will be priced higher than a drink of the day normally would be on the ship - because you are also paying for the glass. You can get refills in the glass - there's no discount on the refill but it's a bit larger than the cups they normally use.

Remember: if the drink is free on DCL, like at the Captain's reception or the DVC gathering, it's going to be weak.

We were on the Fantasy the first week of September. A server offered us drinks in souvenir cups on pirate night. We asked if it was possible to buy the drink without the souvenir cup.

The server said that was fine. He was gone for a few minutes and returned with 2 drinks in regular cups. We did not have to buy the souvenir cups, which we did not want. We did tip him extra though for the trouble.

Will they notify us of the Captain's reception in the daily newsletter we receive?

The only time I noticed the free drinks was on a seven day cruise. I'm smacking myself for not paying more attention on the four day cruises. I will definitely make a point to find the servers on my December cruise.

On the seven day cruise, I remember the waiters had champaigne and cocktails. I don't know the name of the cocktail but it was light red and very, very good.

There is a discount though if you use the cup for "drink of the days" through out the cruise. $4 per drink of the day if you reuse your sail away part cup.

Yes it is in the navigator. I think it starts about 30 mins before dinner seating.
