Tipping of childcare staff

Tons of great info. on the boards regarding tipping. Thanks everyone!

If I understand correctly, youth activities staff and nursery staff must pool their tips together to fund special staff events, etc. They don't directly get to keep the cash (please correct me if I am wrong.) I've read that many people choose to tip with goodie bags, etc.

My question is - how many people should we be prepared with goodie bags for? We will have a 9 y/o that will use the Youth Club, and a 10 month-old that will be visiting the Nursery.

Thanks

My suggestion--rather than trying to do individual "goodie bags" and having no idea how many people were on duty when your child was there, why not do a couple of bigger bags (I'm thinking you are talking about edible stuff).

If you do give some sort of gift bag, you MUST put the individual's name on them. Otherwise they are turned over to a manager and used as door prizes at the party.

We gave a Halloween size pack of fun size candy to the Nursery and one to the Oceaneer Club, and they were genuinely appreciative.

One of the ideas that we have is to leave a bottle of local wine at Oceaneer and Small World. Are there any issues with them accepting a bottle of wine for the group, as opposed to a bag of candy, etc.?

I would say this could be a problem if not all staff are 21+.

I did a small bag of candy most days- at varying times- trying to hit different staff- like starburst, gum, etc.. like a "Snack bag" ziploc

as per the three staff that got to know me and my children best i wrote small thank you note and a $10itunes card

All staff on board, Except a VERY few in the theatre department, are over the age of 21. It's a requirement for employment with DCL. pirate:

So, if you had to pick which one would be better received - would it be the local wine OR a tub of decorated, chocolate covered pretzel sticks (store bought)?

The only reason I ask is b/c I see the candy/snack suggestion A LOT and figure they must get inundated.

itunes card ... a good and interesting idea!

We ended up tipping cash b/c space increasingly became an issue as departure day drew near. In the end, our FE gifts consumed way more space in our luggage than planned.

I believe that the cash was well appreciated. But that our sincere expression of gratitude was just as important to everyone.

I thought that I had read someplace that CMs could not have individual bottles of alcohol in their rooms. Anybody?

There are all sorts of regulations regarding alcohol and CMs. They are limited in the amount they are allowed to consume, how far before a scheduled shift they are required to stop, etc. I don't know what the regulations are about being allowed to have it in their quarters. I do know that a gift of alcohol must be cleared with the department head or other supervisor. We did give some to our stateroom host.

Maybe that was it - it had to be cleared.
