11:30 flight home after getting off ship is ok, right??

I hope so, b/c I just booked it! Airfare for that week has been outrageous (like $1,000/pp. RT) and Air Tran just dropped their one way flight from $500 to $200 so I jumped on it. I know we'll be doing the early breakfast since we do the early dinner, if that makes a difference.
Are we better off not relying on the Disney transp. to the airport? Should we just book our own?

11:30 is absolutely fine. Booking your own transportation can actually be a lot cheaper than through DCL. We have used travelynx many times in the past and they are a very reliable company.

Chances are in your favor in getting to the airport on time for an 11:30 flight, but there is no guarantee!

We had a flight moved up to 11:50 and we made it with plenty of time to spare, so we were worried for nothing all through the morning of disembarking. I would still make our flight arrangement for no sooner than 12:30, which is what I believe is DCL recommends for your return flight time. But if 11:30 is the only time I could get to avoid a looooong waiting time at the airport I would take it.

In the end it's what you feel comfortable with.

How many people are in your travel group? If it's fewer than four, then DCL bus transfers are usually cheaper than private car service.

We had ten in a group once so it was definitely cheaper to use a car service.

Or you could rent a car but then you'd have the hassle of picking up the car and returning it.

ok, good. I know when I booked the cruise I read somewhere on the DCL site that 11:30 was the earliest.... but I just wanted to confirm (funny how you come here to confirm if what Disney tells you is correct, lol). I already paid the $40/each for the transfers so I'm fine with that.

.

yes, it was either 11:30 or 7:00 p.m.! We have school & work the next day, so we can't be getting home at midnight. We're not at ALL night owls, none of us - kids are in bed by 7:30, DH and I by 8:30-9:00. So the thought of being up that late, esp. since we'll be exhausted from a week at WDW..... I can't even fathom it.

ETA: when I booked, I know it said somewhere in the small print somewhere about not booking before 11:30.

DCL books people on 11:30 flights. BUT...wait a minute. I think you are on the Dream out of PC--right???? Transfers WERE $35 per person each way--did you mis-state, have they gone up, or are you using a different port? The transfer prices are different at some of the different ports.

If you are not talking about Port Canaveral and MCO, the answer might be seriously different!

11:30 is a good time. We had people in our party that flew out on a 10:30 flight and they made it out in plenty time.

We had an 11:50 flight previously and were at the airport about 9:15 and through security by 9:45 so in most cases you'll be fine. I would suggest utilizing onboard check-in if available to you and being on one of the first busses to MCO just to be safe.

You should be fine, just make sure you have trip insurance just in case. One of our Magic cruises, there was some sort of short-lived security scare... We were still in line at noon after disembarkation, waiting for every piece of luggage to be scrutinized at the port before the authorities would allow them to go to the various airlines. So you just never know!

they must have gone up. they were definitely $40/pp. each way.

I just paid 35$ pp each way on Friday.

And the site said 11:30, so I booked a flight out at 11:30. Hubby wants us to change our dining to late dining, though. I wasn't sure about the repercussions of making our flight if we did this, though.

No problem with flight--just plan to have breakfast on the pool deck instead of your assigned restaurant.

No need to worry about late dining and early flights. Talk to your head waiter, and they can usually squeeze you into the early breakfast seating. The reverse is also true - we had friends in the early seating with a late flight, and they were able to join us for the late breakfast! If they can accomodate you, they certainly will.

Make sure you are ready to disembark as soon as the ship is cleared.
My experience is limited to one trip through Orlando, and we barely made a 12:35 pm flight. Security at MCO was a mess. We were there over 2 hours before flight time, and in the security line, boarding pass in hand, 2 hours before flight time, and literally walked right on our flight. So much for a leisurely lunch at the airport!
