We cruised on the Fantasy this past July and I was able to purchase Disney entertainment cards at Target for 5% off using my Target Credit Card. I want to do this again for our cruise next year. So....today in the mail I got a coupon from Target to get an extra 5% on my next red card purchase. You see where I am going here...Has anyone been able to purchase the cards and recieve the extra 5% discount? 5% + 5%. I really hope this works.

Leslie

Yes, you can do that. I have paid for two Disney vacations so far by using my red card and will be paying for our cruise that way as well. I have never gotten one of the extra 5% off coupons, many times they are offered with a prescription transfer, but we don't have any prescriptions to transfer. Others on the various Dis boards have reported using the coupons with their card on gc purchases. Do you know how you got so lucky as to get one of them?

haven't seen the new coupon yet so can't help with that. but i can't see why not, it would work the same as any other purchase as long as there were no exclusions listed on the coupon. in the target system they're considered merchandise so it's the same as if you bought a dvd or t-shirt.

out of curiosity, how many did you buy at a time? was a it a few here or there or did you buy like 20 of them? wondering if they bat an eye if you buy out the store :) i just worked it out and i'd need like 50 of them to pay off the balance. if i did that all at once i wonder if they'd think the target card was stolen - why else would someone buy several thousand dollars worth of disney gift cards

I just paid for my down payment this way. Target only sold them in $50 increments. When I called Disney to put them in, I warned the poor girl that I was paying with 20 gift cards. (Just wait till my final payment) Ha!

I've bought as many as 20 at a time and nobody said anything except one cashier who asked if we were going on vacation. She and her family were getting ready to go also and she didn't know that the discount worked on the cards. She was really excited when she found out.

yeah that's the highest i saw too, bummer.

that's awesome, probably cuz her employee discount should be combined with it too. at least when i worked there it would (we didn't sell the entertainment gift cards then, but same concept. we could combine our employee and target visa rewards discounts).

if they still do a 10% employee discount that would be sweet. (its been a while, i've heard it might have been dropped to 5%, or maybe that was just for seasonal workers, hard to tell. still better than a sharp stick in the eye)

i am definitely looking out for the extra 5% coupon. last one i saw was a 5% for ONLY tv's and the latest coupon couple weeks ago was $5 of $50 (again, better than nothing) hopefully that promo comes to my area.

Just got one in the mail today for being a loyal Red Card holder. We have the debit card. Extra 5% off!!!!

I LOVE TARGET!!!

I got the coupon today too. I read it was it is 5% on top of the 5% discount. I'm so bummed this didn't come sooner because I paid for my trip in full with these cards. I will be creating an informational post in a couples about my Red Card experience.

I got the coupon as well. Didn't it say the maximum discount was $500? Paying for the cruise didn't even occur to me - I was going to use it for the new iPhone.... Hmmmmm.

The maximum discount is $50. I don't know how many cards you could purchase -- 5% of $1000 is $50, but do they take the coupon off before or after the Target card discount?

There is a thread on the Budget Board about this and I have a few posts in there :coffee:

In theory - yes the 5% off coupon card from the mail should work in addition to using the Target Red card. It did *not* for my Mom. She did everything correctly and I don't know why it didn't work automatically. I'm taking her on the Fantasy in December and we were trying to take advantage of the max $50 savings (printed on the back of the coupon mailer) for prepaying tips and transfers. She was sent to the customer service desk when she asked the cashier and unfortunately customer service said they aren't eligible on gift cards. She knows how they work because she has bought many for me for my DCL cruises and WDW trips! :rotfl: She then wrote HQ and got the same spiel - they included her with a list of intelligible items and the Entertainment cards were not listed. We know you can't use them on prepaid cards and the Target gift cards.

I think we might be alone in this experience as several others posted this worked just fine for them. Just remember its not really 10% - it ends up being around 9% but still an awesome deal!! :thumbsup2

I sincerely hope you guys have better luck than she did! I still have my 5% mailer so we are going to try again soon with her Target red card. I've decided I need to get my own Target red card instead of always paying her to do this but we are closing on a refi soon that we started in July and I'm not touching anything!

Good luck everyone :goodvibes:

I have done this before, but I used the pharmacy reward coupon (no $50 max discount). The discount ends up being 9.75% (because its 5% off of 5%). I bought about $2,000 worth of $50 cards and had no problems.

The CSR at DCL who manually punched them into the system for me could not have been nicer. He says he has people do this all the time and is used to it.

I did use the gift cards at Target to pay for my cruise, although I didn't get an extra 5% off coupon at any time. My only word of advice is keep all the cards! Any money that gets refunded to you will go back on those cards.

I used 72 cards to pay for our upcoming cruise. A few weeks ago, significant Florida Resident rates came out, and I switched to that. Over $2000 got refunded to those cards. Thankfully, I had them all tracked on my phone on the Disney gift card app, and had numbered them for easy tracking. I renewed APs with them, we went to a few dinners, bought some Christmas presents, paid my tips, set aside spending money for the cruise ... Thankfully, since I live so close to Disney, they were useful to me anyhow.

I was very thankful we had kept them all and numbered and tracked them. I think I wouldn't have been as happy if there wasn't a way for me to use them. Less than $100 was refunded to my bank account, even though my debit card was my last method of payment.

I ran out to check my mail after I read this post - I hadn't picked it up in a couple days - but I didn't get any coupon for an extra 5% off :confused3

Bummed, because I really want to go on another cruise and that extra 5% would be great...

I use this app, too. It was so easy on our last DL vacation to keep track of the cards and how much we had left. It updates immediately as they are used.

Was this app actually put out by Disney? I'd be afraid to list all my info then have it used up by someone else!!

It says on the back of the coupon "Excludes Target Mobile, gift card purchases and prescriptions."

Exactly - but remember the Disney cards (and several others) are considered "entertainment cards" which is why Target Red card holders get 5% off on them on a regular basis. The same is true when there are extra 5% offs from the Pharmacy rewards.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day this is changed and they discontinued them on the Entertainment cards but this has been allowed for quite awhile. :thumbsup2

I have one of these coupons that came in the mail for my mother in law. They are out of town for several months so I am sure she won't mind if I use it. Do I need to use the coupon with a Target card? I don't have one but thought I could at least get 5% off. Also, can these cards be added to our onboard account?
