Putting deposit on cruise?

I am cancelling one cruise and putting a deposit down on another through a travel agent. Since it will take a couple of weeks to get the first deposit back, I am considering just reserving the room for my son and myself and then add my husband in 2 weeks when we both get paid again. I know that it has to do with the number of people in a room, the number per life boat, and the number in kids club... but would you anticipate any problem waiting until the end of the month to add the 3rd person to the room for a cruise in March? I would not wait any longer!

Why don't you just transfer the deposit from cruise to the other cruise. March isn't that far away. I don't know if I would wait to add a 3rd person.

Valid question... the reason I don't want to just transfer it is because the first cruise was booked through the site. I want to book the other cruise through a travel agent... to get the most OBC, it needs to be done from the beginning through them.

Do you have a credit card? I have found that refunds really do come quickly. It would come before you would have to pay the credit card.

I wish I did. However, I let me credit cards get out of control 5 years ago and have since cut them all up! I would have to order a new one in order to use it! lol

I can totally understand. We only use our CCs for things that we can afford to pay off when the bill comes. I haven't carried a CC balance for over 25 years. But the Disney Visa CC has been very good for me. I charge every single thing that I can possibly charge on it. For our upcoming cruise I have $642 Disney Reward Dollars that I have collected in just the last 12 months.

Can you do this? Yes

Should you do this? It might be a gamble. March is prime spring-break season so the cruise could fill quickly depending on date. Even if the cruise is not sold out (unlikely to occur a couple of weeks but anything's possible) - the muster station for your stateroom could be filled in that time and you would not be allowed to add another passenger.

You'll have to decide if the extra OBC from the TA is worth the risk of not being able to add someone. Plus, you do realize that your son will be charged full adult fare as the second person in the cabin, so by adding the child rather than an adult will not reduce your deposit. You are correct that deposit for 2 passengers will be less than for 3. If you can swing it at all, I'd book all 3 of you at the same time.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise!
