Thats what i am thinking i didnt even realise they could cancel your flight like that surely Delta is responsible for getting them home?

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I hope this gets sorted out for you quickly. A total nightmare at the moment but I agree, it will be a great travel tale with much laughter after some distance and many champagnes. :thumbsup2.

They haven't done anything to help, in fact their customer service in the terminal was appalling except for the poor girl who served me at the counter, all they need is a cattle prod.
I'm going back to the terminal in the morning, new day, new outcome?
Apparently also all airlines are pretty booked for the next 5 days at least, which is where the problem really lay, by putting us on standby they'd be creating a second standby list, they overbook this flight every night :furious:

i'm just going to rock in the corner...
 
Oh my goodness! I am so sorry! Did you intentionally miss a leg of your trip? I don't understand :confused3 I am flying Delta too and this makes me feel very nervous :scared: I hope it all gets sorted for you and you are not put out of pocket!

Contact delta assist, and also your travel insurance provider, they should cover hotel and rebooking charges.

Delta code share with virgin, so see if they can pop you on one of their flights.

Keep all your receipts etc food, accom, transport, etc....

Make sure you record names of all people you deal with, and also ask to speak to the supervisor, just go straight to the top.
With delta, also ask if you could be voluntarily bumped for the next available flight, that will then cover food and accom until a seat is available, and will take you off standby.

Looks like we'll be flying out of San Diego tomorrow morning to Honolulu, then fly out of there on Saturday to Sydney

Thanks everybody, I hardly slept last night, DH got on the phone to Delta this morning and sorted out a flight for us, Monday night, we used some leftover Delta credit and cash :furious: but I'll worry aboutb that when we get home, and nobody can explain why we weren't even told our ticket was cancelled.
And in the whole checkin area last night only 1 person tried to help us, 1 out of about 15.
So today when DH got off the phone we were debating what to do, where to go? The choice was San Diego or Palm Springs, deciding on PalmSprings we hired a car, Hotwired a hotel so off we go, we need to relax.

When life gives you lemons, you just gotta make vodka spiked lemonade...

wow, glad you ended up with flights in the end. After a while it will be a fond memory of what happened on that trip. In the end you are safe and sound and can enjoy some more time in the US.

I am still totally shocked they are allowed to cancel an international ticket did they give you credit for the cancelled flight?

Enjoy your extra 5 days at least you get to see somewhere else and i hope you have extended your travel insurance but i am wondering if they have helped you at all during this time?
