MNSSHP - headless horseman and horse took a tumble

We were in Frontierland last night and the Horseman went by us and we weren't aware that anthing happened just past us. There was no noise or fuss. The parade continued on schedule.

Oh no! How scary that must have been. I'm glad to hear neither the rider nor the horse were injured.

hmmmmmmmmmm. Taking bets that Disney will discontinue this.

Where did the horse and rider go after the tumble? They did not come back to the Frontierland parade starting entrance, did the horse or horse and rider finish the route?

I can't imagine it would be easy to get back on the horse in that costume without a platform or stand.

In one of the videos posted above, you can see the horse trotting down the street with no rider. I have no idea what happened after that, though. I would guess a CM grabbed the horse. :confused3

Yikes! That must've been scary. Glad everyone is okay. It rained the night we were there and the horseman didn't ride. I was bummed we didn't get to see him but totally understood the safety issues. I'd never want to see them put the horse or the rider at risk.

That's horrible!!! I hope the horse and rider fared well. Imagine how bad it could have been if the horse was injured and spooked with all of those people everywhere....goodness... :sad1:

Poor guy. You can't see him fall in these videos, but in the first one you can hear the gasp of the audience when he falls offscreen.

Looks like someone booked an early trip to the glue factory.

Hmmmm..... I should have watced the videos sooner. It says they are all unavailable.

The horse is trained to go from point A (beginning of parade route) to point B (end of route) WITHOUT the need for the rider to actually ride him. In fact, with the nature of the costume, the rider does very little in the way of influencing the horse in any way. So if the rider fell off, the horse would continue on to the end of the route as he had been trained to do.

As to the previous posters "glue factory" comment. First, gross. Second, not even remotely likely.

The Mother of one of my DD's friends said that when they were there last month, the horseman/horse fell during their parade as well. She said there were a lot of very upset children, though the rider and horse were both fine. I can only imagine how upset and scared a crowd of kids would be! Glad they are both ok!

in the videos linked, you see the horse come by without a rider, the horseman come by being escorted by a CM, and then the horseman back ON the horse to finish the ride.

i'm assuming he had help from CMs to get back onto the horse. in the video of the horseman walking, the CM is carrying the pumpkin and is holding the horseman's hand to lead him.

There are also horse "wranglers" stationed along the parade route.

I love seeing this magnificent horse.

That is 100% correct. My son trains horses and he just said the horse even without the rider would know his route and cont. on, if trained correctly.
I feel it's not the rider or the horse's fault... but Disney for allowing it in wet conditions. Metal shoes are slippery anyways, add wet pavement... you get exactly that. The horse was doing his job- the wet pavement got in the way. I'm just thankful neither one of them got seriously hurt. If the horse had broke a leg in front of everyone or the rider seriously hurt... NOT good!!!!

Rubber shoes Disney and dry pavement!!!

It was business as usual as they went down main street as well.
