Just read this and was shocked. They seemed to stand the test of time, but apparently they are separating.

I still see Carla from Cheers every time I see her.....

I honestly am surprised. They really do seem to belong together and to be together since 1970. WOW.

Lived together 11 years, married 30. I don't get why people divorce after that many years. They always seemed stable as a couple, even if he always wasn't.;)

These surprise me, as well as the couples who live together for multiple years, get married, and divorce after only a few months.

Yeah, this one surprises me. :( Maybe Danny got more unstable over the years and Rhea just couldn't tolerate it anymore. :confused3

Very sad to hear of this today. I always liked both as individual actors and loved the idea of them together- thought that their home must be filled with laughter.

I remember a wine spectator article several years ago that featured them- it was nice to read about them as a couple.

We never know what happened between them behind closed doors- I just hope they stay as respectful through the divorce as they always seemed during the marriage.

Everytime I see him, he's either drunk or bragging about being drunk. That gets REALLY old. Really old. I've always wondered how Rhea tolerated his behavior. I'm sure he's a tortured genius who's self medicating but that doesn't make him easier to live with. I enjoy both their work. She's been in some really funny and dark peices just as he has.

You know, I remember when they got married thinking they were an odd couple. I had no idea they have lived together for 11 years before. Just never seemed right to me.

Aww...sad to read that. I liked them together as a couple. I saw "Matilda" a few months ago and they played her parents.

I was surprised to hear this. After all these years, I can't imagine why they are separating.

She probably got fed up with his drinking. Maybe she wants to spend the rest of her years peacefully and not around a loud-mouth drunk every night.

:confused3 Funny, rumblings I'm hearing is that is why HE left HER.

DH and I have been together for 32 years -- happily married. I can't imagine starting over at this point in our lives. Besides, with the kids grown and gone, there's not much left to argue over - LOL

I love hearing that most couples become closer when the kids are gone- good for you, staying together so long and still being happily married. :)

My parents have been married over 50 years, but can't stand each other and are miserable. They should have divorced long ago, but are both afraid to "start over". They are more comfortable being unhappy with each other than divorcing and facing the unknown.

They were OK until my brother and I were grown and gone from home. That was when their lack of any common interests became obvious. They lost their reason for being a couple when we left home, IMO. There wasn't anything to hold them together anymore.

DH and I have been married 16 years, but I'm finding the same to be true for us. :) There is a lot less conflict between us now that the kids are older.

And everything I read said it was his wandering eye and womanizing. Doubt if we will ever know the real reason, which is how is should be.

Feel sorry for their kids.
