If you added on points...

Our first purchase was a resale for 25 points. I figured 75 points was enough to visit every three years buuut......we enjoyed it so much that we wanted to go more often. Added on two 50 point contracts and feel quite happy with our total, at least for now.

We bougt in 1997 and have added on five times for the following reasons...

#1 - wanted more points at OKW (1998)
#2 - wanted home resort advantage at Hilton Head (1998)
#3 - wanted home resort advantage at BWV for the F&WF (recent via resale)
#4 - wanted more points at OKW (recent via resale)
#5 - wanted more points at HH (recent via resale)

Our kids are now adults and our increased points allow us to give them a week each year so they can go with friends. When we travel as a family we like to get larger units so we can brind my parents or friends.

For us, we simply found out that we did not have enough points for how we wanted to use our DVC ownership. We purchased in Oct 2008. We bought enough points for an annual 7 night stay in a 1BR savanna view during Magic season. What we quickly found out was that we liked the idea of 8-10 nights. We also realized that we needed 2BR villas some of the time. This summer we found out that we like AKV-concierge!

We have done 3 small add-ons via resale. The first contract was 50 points with a different UY than our original contract, which was done hastily in March of 2011 in order to get the points grandfathered into the program before the resale restrictions (a mistake in hind-sight). We then found a similar size add-on with the same UY as our original contract in May 2011. Just this year, we did another small add-on with the same UY as the original contract.

We now have enough points to do an annual trip in a 2BR for 7-9 nights or a 1BR for 9-12 nights if we choose. We travel from Indiana and flights keep getting more expensive so we like to maximize our time at WDW which also allows us to slow down a little and enjoy the resort.

If you added on points, what was your biggest reason for doing so?
We knew, even when signing for our initial purchase, that we were buying fewer points than we would "need." We intended to use DVC for an annual Business Conference and required a full week at BWV in January (~200 pts for 1BR) but only purchased 150 pts at first. We've done two add-ons since. We are now a bit higher than our initial goal but not complaining! ;-)

Bought 100 points at AKV in 2008 with no real intention of buying more. The plan was to travel in June and then again the following April, using AP's and 150 points each trip, then taking a year off.

In 2010, we added on 50 points at HHI with the intention of going every three years (in our WDW "off" year) using 150 points. We want to travel in April (Spring break/Easter) and, as we confirmed this year, we *NEED* the home resort advantage there to get one of the 21 1BR's.

So, to answer the OP's question, we did our add-on because we needed the home resort advantage at HHI:goodvibes.

We added on an additional 75 points to be able to stay in a 1 BR instead of a studio.

With the point restructuring, we would need to add more points. Nope, not going to do that.

We purchased 170 in 2001......decided we needed more points in 2002 so added on 50 at BWL...then another 100 there in 2003

We originally bought in at 160 pts. thinking that we would be fine with a studio. It was what we were used to and we were fine with it. That was until we saw the 1 BR AKV unit at the DVC sales center. We were instantly sold on 1 BR units and yes I will admit it was the bathroom that did it for us! Added another 100 pts. as soon as we got home.

I do have to say that we have recently gotten into the bad habit of borrowing so I think another add-on will come at some time but we are waiting a year or two before we make the decision.

We originally bought 200 points at AKV in 2007. We have added on 9 times since. Our main reasons for adding on:

1) Wanted home resort advantage at the Beach Club (this was our first add on)
2) Longer stays (we typically stay 9-10 days per trip)
3) We wanted to stay in a 2 bedroom (family of five with 3 teenage boys)
4) We wanted to stay more often

We love our DVC membership, our only mistake was not joining sooner :thumbsup2

We originally bought 225 points at BCV when it opened; we added another 75 at BCV as our children got older. We then added 200 at SSR in 2003 when our first son got married (and the other 2 did soon after) because our family got so much bigger.

My husband and I go every year and we take the extended family (kids/grandkids) every other year. We also let our sons take their wives' families on our points

I was actually getting tired of Disney until I just returned from Aulani and now I'm thinking about how I'm going to go about getting the entire family over there next year. I may need more points!

Wanted to own at BWV and wanted to spend more time at WDW when we retire.

We currently own 160 points at AKV. While we haven't added on yet, I think my biggest drivers will be being able to afford a 1 bdr in something other than the value season. Right now while my son is little we can travel in September and January, but in three years we may need more points for a more expensive season. :( Especially since our chances of ALWAYS getting a value room are probably pretty slim.

When we first purchased (Feb 2011 just before the restrictions) we bought 100 resale points to be able to stay in a MKV studio at BLT for 3 nights during Christmas. This is what we had done on cash ressies and we were fine with the idea.

While waiting for ROFR I started getting nervous that we would not be able to get the studio for our time period and we decided to buy another 160 points so that I would have some flexibility at the 9 month mark for a very very busy season.

As it turned out, by the time we passed ROFR on both contracts, all I could get MKV (my husband insists on MKV) was a 2 bedroom. As we had the extra space anyhow my 16 year old daughter brought a friend. Boy did we fall in love with that unit. We booked it again for this year and I must admit that we are borrowing points to do so. My brother-in-law and his wife will be joining us this year.

Looks like we may add on again in a couple of years unless we end up skipping a year. Either way, I know we will need more points in the future but I hope to wait as long as possible to allow prices to drop some more.:)

Wanted to go more often.

This :thumbsup2

However, we are planning on adding on more points sometime in the coming year so that we can enjoy 1-bedroom villas more, right now we are only staying in Studios and our kids are getting bigger therefore the room is getting smaller and smaller.

Disneyregular, take them out pf school. I was taken out, my wife, its not a big deal. The amount of class they miss is nothing.

As for adding on. We havent yet. We didnt go first year as we had newborn DS. Then had tons of points to manage with 2 bedroom lock offs at BLT. I would add on to get to 200. But i want home resort privleges at BWV. I know that 40 there is enoigh for a night. I dont want to wait 7 months to use my NLT points to ffinish booking trip so ill buy enough for 5 nights there.

We just didn't have enough points to take the vacations we wanted. Eventually I will add on again to be able to divide the contracts evenly between the kids someday.
