NCL stateroom hosts

NCL is hiring in Seattle, one of the many positions they offer is stateroom host. The ad says you must have a "reasonably" clear background...really?..yikes...whats reasonable for someone that is going to be in my room near my children??

There are some minor things that I would find acceptable especially if they are years in the past. Stupid things that say a young adult (18-19) might get into and regret. I would hate to have someone denied a job for a misdemeanor that happened 5+ years earlier and they have since been model citizens.

I would definitely not want to see someone that has a recent history.

Where do you see the ad? I don't see it mentioned on NCL's website.

BTW, traffic violations and credit info are available on background checks. Neither of these would overly concern me in regards to shipboard employment.

I work for a non-profit human service organization. One of our programs in Headstart. It is extremely difficult to hire a minimum wage employee who has a completely clean criminal background. And our hands are tied. I remember one woman who was extremely excited about starting this job. She felt it would give her a new start. She could not work for us because when she was 19 she threw a phone at her boyfriend. He took out charges. It is just so sad for a teenage mistake to follow you for your life.

Exactly. And you may miss out on the best employee you've ever had.

DS requires a companion/caregiver, since he's a quad. His current one did some stupid stuff when she was younger. But she has been the best companion he's had.

All good points folks and I totally agree....just the use of the word reasonably leaves a bit to the imagination....wonder if they changed the wording now...I did email them.

While I suspect there is a touch of sarcasm in your post , but you touch on a big problem. The reality is, in school and youth organizations, background checks are almost totally useless since just about every time there is an issue, it is with someone with a totally clean record, not even a parking ticket.
The lesson is, nobody can ever guarantee safety, and you should always be on guard when it comes to your safety and the safety of your children.

Those reqiurement would mean the jobs are for the US flag vessel, Pride of AMERICA.
