Camp Minnie Mickey closing?

Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently Camp Minnie Mickey and Festival of the Lion King will be closing in January. And they've gotten rid of some if the characters from the meet and greet trail including Timon, Thumper and Meeko. There's rumours that FOTLK is going to be relocated which I hope is true because I've never been and was really looking forward to it. Gutted about Thumper too he's one of my favourite characters and now he's gone :(

Dont think ive seen thumper there in a few years :-(

Not sure where avatar land is going so maybe the start of that

This is still a rumour however I have seen items posted that the cast at FOTLK have been given notice on their contracts with a January end date. The area is going to be turned into Avatarland.

The greeting trails change all the time and the only characters I have seen everytime are the main ones. The others come and go and seem to be seasonal to help soak up the crowds.

Spoke to a CM a few weeks ago who confirmed that FOTLK is closing.

As far as the greeting trails, Pluto and Goofy weren't there (and we were there on 3 different days), neither was Pocahontas, Timon or Meeko; but that is likely to be seasonal as we went at a quieter time than usual. We have found that the busier the season, the more variety of characters/shows/parades, etc you will have. The greeting trails were still there however.

Yeh I've heard it's being removed for Avatarland. Hopefully the characters will be back in the new indoor meet and greet place they're building.

It's disappointing that there'll be so much construction going on with this, the Seven Dwarves Mine Train and the Harry Potter expansion at Universal

It's been ongoing since 2010 and unfortunately there is just no avoiding it. Up until our October 2010 trip, we had been fortunate enough not to have experienced anything 'closed' or 'down'

Aside from the Fantasyland expansion there seem to be a lot of changes resort wide. I suppose it's better for them to just get the overhaul over and done with over a few years and then leave us to enjoy the parks in peace again for a while :rotfl2:

So disappointed that FOTLK is closing as we really enjoyed this last time we went and were hoping to see it again next year.

Oh I know it'll be better in the long run, I'm just sick of seeing construction work lol it's all I've seen in Leeds everyday for the past year because of the new shopping centre that seems to be taking forever to build >:(

I feel your pain!

I was just delighted that the darn scrims were gone from Main Street USA so I could actually take a photo of real buildings, not tarp facades, for the first time since Easter 2009!

we saw thumper and miss bunny at camp minnie mickey last march
but we were unable to get a picture with thumper (he had to go eat some carrots, or so the CM said :) )

Aw, if that happens again, just wait for them with your DS. Carrot breaks are usually 5 minutes or less ;)

seems it was a long carrot break (1hour+ according to the CM), he was replaced by miss bunny

That means Main street has been scrim free for about 2 months now - do we think it will last? It would be nice to get some scrim free photos in December!

From what i understand the Main Street facade work is complete, although don't quote me on that for my own safety :rotfl2:

But yes, I think it's safe to assume that there will be no more scrims when you visit

Sadly the back side of the castle (where Sir Mickey's is) is a bit of an eyesore at the moment, or was a couple of weeks ago, with work going on there. Sort of ruins the view at the moment. But we endure these things to enjoy the better things they are adding I guess :)
