Do the resorts do anything special for new years eve or new years day. Planning a trip to spend new years at WDW for the 1st time and was wondering if the resorts do anything during this time.

Great question! I'm looking for this information as well, so I'll be watching your thread for any replies.

The only thing about New Years Eve, if you plan on being in the Magic Kingdom on New Years Eve at midnight, you better go to park at noon and plan on stayong ALL day! We went just to celebrate New Years (stayed on disney property at All Star Movies) tried to get on bus at 3 PM to go to Magic Kingdom (couldn't go all day for health reasons) but at 3 …' they would not take us over on the bus because Park would not let anyone in so we laid in our room and dozed off. Firework bangs woke us up!

That is why I was hoping maybe the resorts would have some kind of New Years Eve party or something, do not know if I really want to be at a park at midnight. I did find out that MK has their special New Years eve fireworks on both the 30th and the 31st this year.

I'm going for New Years this year as well and I'd love to know what our options are..... I really want to be there to experience it, but not necessarily sandwiched in between a zillion people. Let me know if you find out anything! :)

There is usually a big dance party with a DJ on the Village Green at the Boardwalk Inn.

We're planning to be at WDW Dec. 28-Jan. 2 for New Year's as well, and beginning to try to get a plan going. Wondering is the Magic Kingdom or Epcot are super crazy busy, or if Downtown Disney or Boardwalk area might be a better bet and what they offer (beyond the Boardwalk/DJ party mentioned earlier). Trying to find a room at a value for less than $179 and wondering if rates might drop a bit in the coming month.

After looking at the Disney Visa discount (and presumably will be offered to GP on Wed.) that begins Jan.2, I think it is unlikely that the rates will drop prior to Jan. 2. As it is now with the discount, on Jan. 2 the rack rate of $85 for a value resort (excluding AoA LM) is eligible for 25 % off (where available). That is huge considering on Jan. 1 the rate is in the ballpark of $185. Pretty crazy to see those two numbers side by side!

We (my extended family, and DH, DD9, DS6) are planning to spend our first NYE in WDW at DHS. We have dinner reservations at 50s PT, plan to go to Osbourne Lights, the Disney Jr Dance Party, watch Mulch, Sweat, and Shears, see Fantasmic, and if we can get on any rides it will be a bonus. Then we will watch the fireworks at midnight.
