This obsession with the weather!!!

Does anyone else have this this obsession about the weather for an upcoming trip? We have a trip for end of Oct and I find myself checking out weather reports for that time frame way too often. They have had so much rain lately and no end in sight! Trying not to let myself get discouraged by this thought. Just take rain ponchos along and keep on going. So much planning involved for this trip and you always hope weather will be great but you never know.
Am I the only one with this crazy obsession????

Obsessing will only make you and those around you miserable. Bring a range of clothing and coverings and just go and HAVE A GOOD TIME!

We just left today...it rained a few days of our trip...I would pay more attention to the humidity than the rain...the humidity is what affects your comfort level. If I could do it over I'd wear only gym clothes that wick away moisture because we were sweating a lot! Despite the weather we had an amazing time! Enjoy!

No end in sight? The 10 day looks pretty good, no day over 30% chance.

I've gone every year since 2005. Seriously, it's rained 2 days out of 7 vacations. Last year it rained all day when we were at MK that day, and we just bought ponchos and had a great, even though we were wet, day.

I wouldn't be to worried. The forecast could say 40% chance of rain all week, and you might not ever see a drop... I'm going in 2 weeks and I'm not too worried. I'd rather be wet in Disney any day!

And I definately agree!!!!! It could be gorgeous outside, but feel like you're walking around in an attic... :scared:

We leave in 10 days and I'm not too worried about it. Glad to hear what you said about the gym clothes above as I have most of my lululemon stuff packed to wear.

In my opinion, the forecast for the next couple weeks looks pretty good. Nice temps and only 20% or 30% chance of precipitation. Just throw on a poncho and keep going!

I am ashamed to admit that I am also an obsessive weather watcher. We don't spend much time in the parks anymore so having weather that is nice enough to be outside enjoying our resort is important to us. Also, part of the reason we go to WDW in Oct, Dec. and March is to escape from MN cold weather. I currently have The Weather Channel 10 day, Accuweather 14 day and Wunderground 10 day forecasts in my bookmark bar. Sad, I know, but it helps me get excited for our trip!

I agree. What is the point of stalking the weather sites for weeks on end before a trip when you know (or should know) that forecasts this far out are notoriously inaccurate and are only a guess? And if the forecasts don't change, then what can you do about it?

Nada. Zip. Zilch. Rien. You can't change it so why bother fretting about it?

Check it a couple of days before you leave so you know what to pack. Plan to pack ponchos whether rain is forecast or not.

Now, if you were planning to drive to WDW from the northeast in the winter time, THEN you can sit and stew about the weather, worrying about blizzards closing the highways....

We went in February a few years ago and it rained almost non-stop during our trip. We had one day of all sun. Honestly, it was not fun. Because it was cooler weather, we were in jeans and everything from the poncho down was soaked. I mean SOAKED. Daily. It did spoil our trip. I don't mind the occasional rain storm, but I do mind nonstop rain.

So, yes, I also obsessively check the weather. :)

Pack ponchos.

Watch everyone else leave because it's pouring.

Get wet.

Go on everything with waaaaay less waits.

Enjoy.

I love being there when it's raining. Everyone leaves and you have the place to yourself for a while. It's awesome. Who cares if you get wet? It's vacation!!!

One of my favorite memories is when me and DD went for a mother daughter trip. Our first night it started pouring...and didn't stop all night. Everyone left. We went on EVERYTHING with no waits. The best was four times in a row on BTMRR in the rain, during the fireworks. It was such silly fun. We laughed sooo hard. We were liked drowned rats but we didn't care. We were at Disney World!!!

Have a great trip!!!

Im right there with you !!!!! our upcoming trip is in 13 days its our wedding trip and will be DH and DSS first trip so I want it to be beautiful and not raining.. Disney has had just had 2 much rain lately

I don't get it. You are in CENTRAL FLORIDA. It is GOING TO RAIN. But what's the big deal if it does?:confused3 Wear a poncho, have a good time. You're in WDW. You could go any number of indoor places and still have a great time or if it's not freezing, which again, Florida, walk around still and enjoy the emptiness of the park. Don't let it ruin your trip or your anticipation. A rainy day in WDW is stil better than a rainy day anywhere else! It's the weather - you can't DO anything about it, just let it happen. It's not July, so be thankful for that, lol!

I thought this topic was about all the people complaining about the weather. Ooops. :rolleyes1

While I can deal with less than perfect weather, I have to admit that I will be very disappointed if it rains on our MNSSHP night. We did MVMCP in the rain last year and it was terrible. Characters are tougher to find, the parade units weren't running, and the fireworks disappeared behind the clouds - you couldn't even see the Castle between the fog, clouds, and smoke.

So yes, while I have no problem throwing on a poncho and splashing my way through Disney World, I'm hoping for clear skies on October 21st.

I'm at WDW right now, the last full day of our trip. The weather forecast was for rain EVERY DAY, and I can tell you that was an exaggeration by far :rolleyes2. The only night we had heavy, sideways, drenching rain was Thursday night Oct 4th from about 7pm-8pm. I felt so bad for those attending MNSSHP, but we just waited it out in our lobby at the Poly (hello Tambu Lounge :cool1:), and walked back to the room once it went by.

Sure, it's rained in the middle of the night, and had a couple of daytime afternoon sprinkles (barley noticeable) here and there. Our night at MNSSHP on Friday Oct 5th was AWESOME. We've awakened to beautiful sunshine everyday and some cloud coverage in the afternoons, which have been most welcome. Don't sweat it, it's going to be just fine & magical! pixiedust:

Bonnie if you must obsess, do yourself a favor and delay the obsessing until a 2-3 days prior to your trip. I've lived in various parts of the U.S. and for some reason I find that the central Fla. forecast is less reliable than other places. Try not to sweat it and just be prepared with the ponchos.:earsboy:

I guess perception is in the eye of the beholder because we were at the MNSSHP on Thursday and it was horrible all night from 4-11, so much so they gave refunds. Also Friday had the biggest Thunderstorms from about 4-7 I had ever seen with lightening non stop shutting down the boats at Hollywood Studios/Epcot. The other days had some less noticeable rains in the afternoon but Thurs/Fri soaked everything and pretty much put all park activities to a stop. Was very disruptive and umbrellas/ponchos didn't help with those rain. Be prepared to get soaked at a moments notice as it went from dry to orange/red storms on Doppler in no time at all

You must be in a different place to us then.

We arrived last Saturday and it has rained every day. Thursday night it started at 1830 (we were sheltering along with everyone else) and was still raining at 2230 when we got the monorail from the Poly. Hallowishes was delayed because of the weather, they announced that at O'Hanas.

The forecast is better for next week onwards but this last week has not been too good.

My dd was obsessing about the weather for our trip to WDW two years ago. She was carrying on so much it was driving me nuts and making me not want to go at all. I finally told her that if she was going to be so miserable, we could cancel the trip. She decided to stop worrying about it. Lo and behold, it turned out that it rained once for 20 minutes.

Then the next year we went to England on our vacation and it rained every day and it was nearly as warm as Orlando. After that, she stopped worrying about it raining in Orlando.

No you are not the only one with this obsession. There are plenty of others that do the same thing. I don't know why but folks do.

Why not worry about if there will be soap in your room?

Or if the busses will run on time?

Or if a truck will breakdown and not deliver your favorite food to the restaurant where you are having lunch?

It won't change anything. Relax and go have a great vacation and stop worrying about things you can not control.
