Packing tips: what I bring now that did not before

Just back from DL but this goes for WDW too. I now pack an unopened liquid hand soap & a room scent/ decorative type air freshener. The soap is so much nicer to use at the sink in comparison to the bars. I dont bring it home. Just toss it. As for the air freshener, I cannot stand how hotel rooms smell. Totally worth it to bring these 2 small extras.

Other than that, my most favorite hotel room tool is my over-the-door shoe organizer. I hang it over the closet rod and use it to hold all my bathroom supplies from toothpaste, brushes, deodorant. Almost everything. Keeps the bathroom so much tidier.

Gee original poster, I appreciate your personal tips you use on your vacation. I like threads that are about sharing ideas.

Which is why I'll be in a tent sleeping on my own pillows and lying on my own sheets. Sweet perfume makes me slightly nauseous and gives me a headache. My dearly beloved sister said I only liked scents that smelled like decaying leaves and woods. LOL's! When we were at CBR in 2007 it didn't seem I was in the room long enough to notice scents and the times I was inside the room I was knocked out in a dead sleep or getting ready to leave,

Arguing about air fresheners = spoiled Disney problems. Don't get me wrong, I love it. I should clarify though, I bring the cone type of air scent or glade decorative whatnot. Not anything permanent. :)

I have to say that I bring the spray too because I like a fresh smelling room, and bathroom. :lmao:

One of my favorite things that I always take is a power strip. They are great to put on the table to charge cell phones, batteries for cameras and everything else in one spot. :thumbsup2

Let go & let god as my girlfriend would say. Birth a sweet little tip thread for it to be devoured by the lions. Give it to the world and see what it does with it. Def not a winner. Poor little thread. Didn't even see it coming.

Ok seriously power strip is brilliant. Gold star. I'm writing that down. I've always got chargers everywhere.

I think it's gross to take your home toothbrushes on vacation and bring them back after. Do people do that? I take cheapie unopened ones & throw them out when we leave.

Febreese renusit glad and any other of those products that make stuff smell "better" are loaded with the same VOC's that other product manufacturers are spending boat loads of money to get out of there products.

Ever see a paint company tout there product as low VOC? Or a rug manufacturer?

The very chemicals they are removing from their products are being put right back in many homes (or hotels as presented here) when people pump the handel of that bottle or open that "air freshner".

Air changes clean the air not chemicals to mask an odor.

Not on a soap box, but most people just don't know, and given the option, people stop using the VOC's.

Glad I'm not the only one. :)

I also do the Power Strip. I bought one specifically for Travel, and just keep it in my suitcase.

I love love love my toothbrush, The Radius - those big head ones: http://www.radiustoothbrush.com/ - but when I replace my old one, I put it in my travel drawer, and then toss it at the end of the trip.

Yeah I get those little toothpaste packs so I use the little toothpaste and the little brush then toss both before I go home.

Someone recommended the suction hooks and we took those last time. Perfect for hanging up swimsuits to dry. Hate those drying lines that take up the whole shower. Also used to hang my hair bands on.
*Zip lock bags - large and small
*Small blanket (receiving one worked great) to take to the parks to sit on. Or son used as cape to keep warm when the jumping fountain hit a big wind and soaked him. :goodvibes
*Playing cards for waiting for parades.
*Laminated ID cards for kids with cell numbers.
*Own water bottle that I can refill.
*Individual flavored water packs. Refill the bottle and add. Now the kids have lemonade or whatever flavor!
Love to hear more ideas!!

Sharpie to write cell# on photo pass card. The little emergency blanket packet to sit on and:or use to keep little ones warm at Fantasmic or other nightx sitting events.

I travel weekly for work, so yes I take same one. I just keep it in a case!

I bring travelling candles for scent that are not heavy in perfumes...Jo Malone is my favourite!

Empty zip lock baggies...can use to store wet clothes, make into an ice pack, put your shampoo in so it doesn't leak, etc.

Writing tablet and crayons...always entertainment for kids!

Clorox wipes and wet ones! Bring a travel pack for each day :)

Moleskin and anti-friction gel...for the feet.

Therma care heat pack (takes up zero room and a life saver for the back/hip/neck or what're is aching on your old bones ;)

An extra, empty canvas bag for carrying things home in that I acquired as that suitcase never packs as well the second time.

First aid stuff...have band-aids, neospotin, cortisone, benadryl, aleve, children's Tylenol all in travel sizes with me.

Picture of our dog. DH brought it on our first vacation and it has been tradition since. When my preemie was born the picture was taped to his incubator...so, yay...the doggie pictures comes to Disney!

Bringing liquid soap is a great idea, and I can't believe I never thought of it before my friend suggested it for our trip to England this past summer. We both hate bar soap, yet that's the only thing they have in hotels. We just brought a bottle of soap from home and put it in a ziploc bag to keep from leaking - worked great!

If you want to bring your own snacks and won't have a stroller to stash them in, keeping them from getting crushed inside a bag is always an issue. I started putting crackers, granola bars, etc. inside a plastic tupperware thing that's intended to hold a sandwich. The container is small and flat enough to not be bulky in a backpack or tote bag, but does a good job of protecting the food so it's not all crumbs when you go to eat it :)

Bringing your own water bottle is great as PP mentioned - I love my S'well bottle, which keeps water cold for hours! It claims to do this for 24 hours - I haven't found it to quite meet that claim, but it does do a much better job than a regular bottle. Having COLD water on a hot day is fantastic, and when you've emptied it, the CS restaurants will give you a free cup of ice water to refill it :)

Power strip

Two shoe hangers, one for shoes, another for toiletries.

Bottled soap since I can't stand bar soaps.

Those lint and hair remover

Moleskin

Needle and thread (I have a small kit with eight colors), because you never know when you'll need it.

Colored envelop for tips

And yes, Febreeze.

We like the laundry sheets for doing our laundry whilst on vacation ( we come for 2 weeks ). You put them in the washing machine and then in the dryer as well. It isnt liquid so it doesn't spill everywhere! But it serves as a detergent and softener. We do not have them in the UK so not sure what they are called but we buy them in your walmart or target type stores. Might be made by tide or something like that?
