We are a large group of 11 the tip is added to the bil but can we disagree wth that?

How does it work as we have only ever been as a couple or a family of four

Never been in a big party but spend too long on the Dis restaurant section. From everything i've read if the service isn't up to scratch speak to a manager and they will adjust/waive the automatic gratuity.

We were party of 6 so auto tips. Yes you can get the removed or adjusted but I have never had bad enough service to have it removed. Quite a few I would have left less than 18% but wasn't worth the hassle of complaining, I would have only reduced by a few $'s.
I found service not as good this year as previous, partly I believe because the tip was already theirs, they know few people complain.

We had to have the tip removed at Coral reef as our service was disgusting, my oldest son was treated very poorly and spoken to in a way that was so bad I wanted to walk out there and then!
We also was charged the auto tip as there was 8 of us BUT.... my mum and in-laws was 2 tables away from us!!! We was told that as long as we ha the same server we would get charged even if they was sat at the end of the restaurant . Either way when we spoke to the manager he was horrid to us & ha me pretty angry as he told us if we didn't tip the 18% then he would put a note on the reservation system to let all other places know we DON'T tip!! Needless to say we went straight to Guest services to complain.
This was in 2008 on our honeymoon we have been back to Coral reef since as the kids begged us and luckily had amazing service.

This is great info to know. I understand the automatic gratuity policy on large parties since the server can get lost in the shuffle. BUT it is nice to know that it can be removed in the case of bad service. Thankfully I have never had the occasion to want to remove such, but once I did tip just a $1 for a $200 meal for absolutely horrendous service.

We have a TIW card so have auto gratuity too. Never had to ask to have it removed :thumbsup2

Silly question i know but on average what are we looking at? First day for example we are haing breakfast at crystal palace

Sorry im rubbish at this

18% of $100 is $18.00

It depends on how many adults/ children you have in your party. So I can not give you a more direct number. Also you do not tip on tax, just the food total.

We never had a problem at Disney, all the servers are working for the same reason we work, MONEY.

Thats good to know you dont get it on the tax

We dont have a problem but the rest if the party which is 8 adults, one child and then two under threes. Some of them have never been to usa before so im trying to give them an estimate on what they will need for tips

Breakfast is one of the least value meals you will do. At about $25pp it will be $4.50 tip, child $14 will be $2.50.
Is it 9 adults and 2 children? Total would be around $45

Upto more expensive dinners like Akershus will cost about $45pp with an $8 tip, $25 value and $4.50 tip for children. Total for 11 = $80

Anything extra like starters & alcohol is added plus another 18% ontop of those.

When we ate at Sanaa it hit me how expensive DDP was, bread is not included there so we bought a bread selection and 1 starter, with tip the total came to almost as much as a meal offsite we had a few nights before at Logans roadhouse.

Thanks wayne, maybe i should have booked two tables and split us up :-( dont want them to have a bad exoeriance wth the ddp

Could you maybe work out tips now and all put an agreed amount on a prepaid card then the money has already been taken care of and you are not dividing up at each meal between the different family members.

I know the tips will vary depending what you will order but you can have a good guess from menus on allears.

eg crystal palace you are looking at a $38 tip for 8 adults and 1 child at 18%.
