We are heading to Disney in 2 days :cheer2: and we are talking about rides that we want to go on. Dinosaur came up. We rode it a few years back..and my oldest (who was 8 at the time) was really scared and crying. Now she is 11 and wants to try again. But wants to make sure she is not on the side the dinosaur jumps out. Can anyone tell me ....should I let her get in first or last??

Thank you for your knowledge :goodvibes

The dinosaur pops out on the right side so depending on which side of the loading area you are on just make sure she is on the left side of the car.

A friend told me they tamed the ride down in the last few years. Said it's scary, but not like it used to be. I wouldn't know. It is very loud, though, and has some completely dark spots. Don't think an 11 year old would have a problem. (The 5 and 3 year old in front of me sure did - stupid parents.)

Don't know how it used to be, but my adventurous 8yo dd LOVED IT. We rode twice in a row (Fast Passes) and she would have done it again...but the line was too long :)

My daredevil 4 year old begged me to try it even though i warned him it was really scary. To my surprise he loved it, but it scared the "beep" out of me! He rode it again on our last trip and is planing to go back on our next. As for me, I will skip this one. It is just too much of a sensory overload for me. It just depends on what kind of personality your child has. Mine loves scary stuff and is not easily scared. My youngest (2 y.o.) rode on a mini roller coaster the other day at the fair with his brother and loved it. It was seriously fast but my boys seem to have nerves of steel. They didn't get that from me!?

If your kid wants to try it again, it is because she knows what to expect. I would let her try it again and make sure you sit her on the left. The t-Rex is on the right.
Good luck!

I always cry during my last day at Disney. Last trip we were at AK, and I dragged DH over to ride Dinosaur. I am a huge ride chicken, but I wanted to try to scare myself to stop crying. It worked. I can't wait to go on this ride again in December. I was on the right side of the car, and have watched enough Disney trip shows to know eventually that dinosaur was going to pop out at me. I didn't think the ride was too bad.

I rode this with my 2 kids in June and HATED it. In fact I kept my eyes closed basically the whole time because we were jerked so much on this ride. I had been looking forward to riding this and was sooooo disappointed...

Ugh, I don't know about this.

Dinosaur is scary, and dark, and loud, and jerky. But that's exactly why I love it!

I would keep the DD in the middle and give her an arm to snuggle into, just in case ;)

Thanks everyone. I thought it was that she needed to be on the left..but wanted to make sure. It is funny because she wants to try it..but I think once we get there, she may back out. Now my youngest (who is 6) was dancing around the house because she is excited to go on it again. kids LOL

Dinosaur is relatively tame all things considered. My 8 and 10 year olds love it and they refuse to do Everest or ToT and the like

:) I have ridden Dinosaur several times...never seen the T-Rex....just like I have ridden Haunted Mansion lots of times and always keep my eyes closed...especially in the attic.

I can do ToT, RnR, EE and all the others without a care in the world...but have a giant reptile pop out or a skeleton bride holding a hatchet...I am a wuss. Don't even get me started on experiencing Alien Encounter...oohhh the breathing behind my ear was wonderfully terrifying...definitely had the desired effect.

Can someone tell me how many people fit into a seat. Leaving Saturday for DW :cool1: and we are trying this for the first time. My girls are very excited. Can my DH and myself and 2 little ones fit into one seat so we can put the girls in the middle. We are all small framed. Thanks
OP, thanks for asking about which side to sit. I hadn't thought about it but now that I know, I know where to stick DH. :rotfl:

Hmmmm... I don't know about those kids, but my four year old begged to go on this. Even though I warned her repeatedly that it was scary and dark. I really, really thought she was going to freak out, but I she didn't. She was obviously rattled when we got out, but not crying or making a fuss.

Sometimes children want to do things even when their parents advise against it. Can't blame the parents for everything ya know! :goodvibes

It's 4 seats across - so put your DD in the middle.

The first year we went both my kids were scared of these types of rides....my DD in particular would get really panicked. I had to make her go with us though because she was too young to be left outside by herself. OK - OK...I did it for ME...I REALLY wanted to ride it! So I pushed her head in my shoulder and covered her ears with my hands. That's how she stayed the ENTIRE ride. She was not happy I made her do it, but we felt it was an acceptable compromise and she survived :)

The next year she was still scared of it (she was freaked out by the Norway ride too!) but I love the ride, so we did the same kind of thing. This time no tears as she knew what to expect. She peeped out for part of the ride LOL.

This year, she was able to handle BOTH the Norway ride AND keep her eyes open for the entirety of Dinosaur. She wasn't even nervous at the thought of going into either ride.

To be fair, this is the first year she would have handled going to eat at a place like T Rex. The years before, dinosaurs freaked her out and she would hide in terror even in museums.

Hope your DD loves it!

They did when it changed from Countdown to Extinction to Dinosaur. That was back in 2000 when making the ride over as a tie in to the movie, Dinosaur.

It's scary no matter where you sit! But being on the left, farther from the dinosaur, might be a little less scary.

From my experience, this is one of those rides that people and their kids either absolutely love, or absolutely hate.

There are 3 rows of 4 seats. The back row is a bit of a rougher ride, whereas the front row is a bit tamer.

The Carnotaurus (most people call it the T-Rex) appears on both sides of the time rover throughout the ride, but the biggest, loudest roar towards the end (when your picture is taken), happens on the right side of the rover. Your best bet would be to put children in the middle two seats as previous posters have stated.

It's dark and loud, but it's so much fun!

Best spot for her is second from the left on the front row. That way she has someone on each side while still pretty far from the Carnotaurus and has the "smoothest" ride, if a smooth ride is possible.

We leave tonight and this thread reminded me of the first time my oldest DD (19 now) rode this. She was maybe 7 or 8 at the time. The ride was normal enough but when we got off she started telling how scary it was. By the time we met up with my parents she swore the dinosaur had stretched down, bitten her and that she was in its mouth when I pulled her out by the feet and got her back in the seat.:rolleyes1 What can I say, she has a knack for telling a tale.

Slightly OT story: I like Dinosaur, but the worst experience I've ever had at a Disney Park was on this ride.

We were about 3/4 the way through, I think near where the pterodactyl comes at you, when the ride stopped. We stopped in complete darkness, and the jeep hydraulics were still functioning in some sort of standby show mode, so the jeep was doing this constant irregular bouncing and jerking like we were driving over rough road, even though we were stopped. It was pretty substantial bouncing, just enough to where it would barely bounce you up into your seat belt and then shake you around a little before immediately repeating.

At first, everyone in the jeep was like, "Woah, this is interesting!" After about five minutes, everyone was like, "Okay, that definitely enough of this nonstop bouncing and shaking!" After about ten minutes, children were crying and people were getting upset. After almost fifteen minutes, several people in the jeep were doubled over and about to puke all over themselves. Shortly after that, they finally did a full ride stop and came to evac everyone. Several people could barely get up and had to be assisted out of the jeep, they were so sick from the bouncing.

I can do any ride at the resort, but was sick for over an hour after that. Ugh.
