FB - private emails showing on timeline

can someone go over again how to hide from your timeline as I cannot find how many posted anywhere.

That is not cool. I just checked and sure enough there are private messages showing up. I know they weren't posted on my wall before, they were sent as messages.

In doing a little more digging, I've discovered it is showing up on some profiles and not others.

So why some and not others? Or I guess the real question should be, why are they showing at all?

When you go to your profile page, it will show to the right the dates 2012, 2011, etc and when you click on that year, on the right of your profile, it will show a box with all of your wall posts for that year.

Hover your mouse to the upper right of that box and a pencil will appear. Click on that pencil and it will show "hide from timeline".

I know, I checked on my friends too. The one I was particularly worried about either deleted them before this change or they don't show *whew* Really did not want those as open reading.

I don't know why some and not others. I wonder if others had deleted their messages or maybe some settings are different than others?

I just checked again to make sure. Nothing it must have privacy settings

I couldn't find any of mine either. I went and deleted all my messages, so will that eliminate them showing up on my timeline?

It's not privacy settings, they've just done it to some people but not others. I thought it was an Internet rumor, but nope, it's true.

OK, I discovered that I did indeed have PMs posted as timeline posts. They definitely were not wall posts. Nothing bad, but it makes me mad that they allowed this to happen. Thank you to SaraJayne for posting the solution.

This has been all over the news recently (I believe it started with some people in France?) and according to many news sources facebook support has investigated each report it has received of private messages showing up on the timeline and has been able to confirm that the messages which are seen are in fact just old wall posts

Facebook is either lying or wrong. I saw those same articles, but there WERE private messages showing on my wall when I looked.

I have to disagree. I just looked over my account and did find private messages in my timeline. Thankfully they were not any that would get me in trouble . They were from the first couple months I had my account. Definately not wall posts.

Yeah, if I didn't keep in touch w/family & long lost friends through FB, I'd close it.

Yes, I have read the articles but have also read posts under the articles where others have confirmed that emails show as wall posts. I will let FB tech support know but not sure if I can re-show what I hid already.

Exactly. One of my "wall posts" actual emails was an exchange between me and a crazy ex. I never friended him, we only had a 3 email exchange so I KNOW it would be impossible for him to have posted on my wall. He was never my friend at any time.

I hate pms. THere is always the potential for misuse....
