and you guys have been fabulous at answering everything I need to know thank you so much! One more- it seems when I look up prices for 5 they are much higher than 1 ticket. I have had other ppl try with another computer and still get the same price for 1 so I think there is actually more than 1 avail at that price ( i need 5)...anyway..if I get 5 separate tickets and confirmation numbers, will we all have a different boarding assignment?

try the cheaper price with 1,2 and 3 and see how many cheaper seats there are and book those together and then get the other seats at the higher price and then you will have only 2 confirmation numbers. And if you do EBCI it doesn't matter about the conf. numbers since boarding passes will be issued automatically

Each boarding pass will have a different number weather you purchase together or separate. The boarding number is assigned when you check in. There is the possibility of having other passengers between your group.

This is true, but if you book your tickets on more than one reservation (as you apparently will have to do to get the lower price for at least one) you will have separate confirmation numbers for each reservation and will have to check in separately for each reservation. While it does mean there could be a gap in boarding numbers between the two, that's certainly not the end of the world.

OP, what you are seeing is that there are less than 5 tickets available at the cheapest price. Try doing the above to see how many you can get at the cheapest price. It might just be 1, but could be as many as 4. Once all of those priced tickets are gone, the price goes up into the next fare bucket.....

No matter what, you will have a separate boarding number for each passenger. In fact, even with EBCI, there can be people in between you, as we found out and we were on the same confirmation number.....
