All Things Galveston (Updated - 5/21/14)

One more thing:

She also said that the shuttle will not show up as an option if you are flying in on Friday evening since there is not shuttle service until Saturday. We are staying at a Spring Hill Suites near Hobby on Friday night and will then take their transportation back to the airport on Saturday morning to catch the shuttle.

Is there going to be transportation from the ship to hobby when we get back on 11/10? Flying in on 11/2, renting a car and spending the night in Galveston but still haven't figured out how we are getting back to the airport!

Ahhh... yes... we never fly the day of the cruise, even for a short flight. Flying in the day before for both our Nov and May cruises out of Galveston. Explains why nothing is showing with online checkin based on the flight dates/times I listed. Odd the rep who replied to me about two weeks ago said "no" about Hobby. DCL definitely needs to get it's ducks in a row with different bits of information being dispersed.

We had thought of doing exactly what you are doing - fly on Friday, stay near airport (Hobby), shuttle back to airport and take DCL transportation. Then when she replied "no Hobby" we started finding backup plans.

Thanks to everyone for sharing! :thumbsup2

Hi,

We are on the Nov. 3rd sailing.

I just spoke to my TA who also called Disney. She said that, yes, there is shuttle service our of Hobby until May 2013. She said that there is an 800 number to call. Here is her response to me :

The agent also gave me an 800 number you can call at any time even on the day of sailing if you have any issues. If you are worried about catching that first shuttle and want to call on Friday night when you arrive you can do so – 1 800-395-9374 Or you can even call now if it will make you feel better to speak with someone yourself.

I hope this helps!

Yes - this is the same number that I was given. I am a compulsive planner so will probably give this number a call soon just to get the scoop directly from the shuttle service! The TA seemed surprisingly vague about how the shuttle would work, which makes me a little nervous!

Does anyone know if you can see the cruise ship from any of the hotels?

The only hotel right there is the Harbor House. If you had a room facing the pier, you'd have a great view! Plus, I don't think this is widely publicized, but guests at Harbor House are welcome to use the pool at the Galvez -- and they have an awesome pool! That's on the seawall though, so it would mean a cab ride or having a rental car.

I'm hoping so:lmao:I booked roundtrip for $60 a person.I do think you can book only one way. I would call DCL. I"m assuming we will have more information as it gets closer. I am a bit annoyed that Disney does not have everyone on the same page with regards to transportation.

Anyone know anything about BOI valet parking? Says it just one blck from terminal

I don't know anything about BOI valet. I'm from the Galveston area and my aunt books cruises out of Galveston. She recommends ezcruiseparking.com. Hope that helps! :)

Question. We are staying at the hotel by IAH recommended by Disney (totally drawing a blank) wondering if there is a Walmart or target nearby? Our flight arrives at 6pm and I wouldn't mind sneaking out to grab a couple things.
Any idea on cab fare to the nearest or should I just forget about it.
We are taking the Disney transfers in the morning so can't stop on our way out.

We plan to spend two night pre-cruise in Galveston at the Country Inn & Suites (Recommend signing up for their email specials, we got one that actually applied to our dates!)

Looking for a couple local dining recommendations but not too expensive for a lunch and one dinner. And I have a Rainforest Cafe gift card, so we'll give that a try for one night. What's the parking situation for that restaurant?

I love love love Gaido's on seawall. It's white linen tablecloth... yet reasonable and yuuuummmmy.

I think the closest are going to be in Humble. You can use the zipcode 77338 for Target and Walmart .coms and see where the closest are located to the airport if you need a better idea. I'm not sure how much a cab fare would be, but they aren't REALLY close - it will be a few miles. I think on the Yellow Cab website for Houston they have a page that gives fare information if you are still mulling it over. :thumbsup2

Rainforest Cafe shares part of the parking lot of the Hilton, which is right next door. It can get very busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so if you are going to be there for Thurs & Fri, I would probably use your gift card and go on Thursday night. :goodvibes

I called the port and the lady said that we can drop luggage and go into terminal at 9:30/10. Hope she is right..I will be there =)))

For those that love to shop, Tanger outlets open next week on the Gulf Freeway exit 17. This is just outside of Galveston.

There is a Disney store on the directory so maybe we might stop before the trip if we have time. :)

We like the Spot. It's on the sea wall and very economical. After a day at the beach we usually head over there. I think we're on the same cruise meet so see ya in just 4 weeks!!!

Parking on the seawall can suck on the weekends. Otherwise its fair. Rain forest is chilis quality. Good dining would be Gaidos and dibellas. Good affordable fair would be the spot, ny pizzeria.

Btw, Casey's is reasonable too. It's connected to Gaidos.
