Are YOU prepared for December 21, 2012?

I'm kicking the idea around of stockpiling a few more canned goods than usual. I don't think the world is going to end in December, but I could see a few moronic terrorists going to town with that date. I wouldn't have started stockpiling 6 months ago, that seems like a waste. I plan to have my husband make sure the gas cans for the grill are full (that is probably the only thing I could convince him to do to prepare for the end ;)). So not going nuts, but it is on my mind ::yes::. I did watch a bad movie a few days ago called Take Shelter that made we wish we had a storm shelter like the one in the movie :bitelip:.

We have a generator, but it is in the same box it has been in for the past 3 years, unopened.

We bought it after we had a huge storm with hurricane force winds and a 100 hour power outage. Reminds me - gotta fill the 5-gallon gas container this week, LOL.

No doomsday prepping in this house. I know where the weather radio and the flashlights are. We have plenty of canned goodies in case we need them.

We are in tsunami country, so we are always a *bit* prepared for emergencies.

I am a more "wait and see" type of girl. Although I love all things zombie and if we EVER have a zombie apocalypse I will TOTALLY survive! :rotfl2:

we were in Walmart yesterday (yeah I know) and they had big bins of food. It was like freeze dried single serve pouches. Maybe I should pick up some.

Seriously though, as long as he isn't hurting anyone, let him stockpile if it makes him feel better. Maybe you should secretly record doomsday preppers and watch it with him on 12-22 while you plow through the water and canned ravioli, or you could invite everyone over for Christmas dinner and tell them you were sick of turkey and wine so you will be having raviolis and water!

Living in California, we have an "earthquake" kit that has food and water, emergency meds, etc. set aside.

since we have gone camping, we do have a number of stockpiled freeze dried food, that we rotate.

but that is for real emergencies!

my guess is that some mayan preists decided to play a practical joke on the world!:lmao:

The only planning I'm going to do is request the day off from work. I figure if the world was ending, it would suck to spend it at work.
Also, I'm planning on taking my vacation the month before. World ending will really force the use it or use it issue.
Maybe I should put the whole vacation on the credit card - then I wouldn't have to worry about the bill.

If I remember correctly archeologists have recently found new Mayan calenders going WAY PAST 2012. As my DH's best friend's wife (who according to oral family history has Mayan ancestors) laughing said " you gringos always find something to freak out about" so that's good enough for me.

Y2K turned out to not be a big deal because thousands of people worked for months to be sure it wasn't.

There is no reason to fear Dec 21, so I'm not.

yeah, I don't understand people getting all worked up.

I mean, after all, OUR calenders end every december 31st!!!;)

and we just go get a NEW one!!::yes::

with PIRATES on it!!

in going to disney in June 2013.if any one actually believes this can they cancel there adrs so I don't miss out on BOG.

I don't believe any of that stuff. However, if you think the world is really going to end, you won't need your money, in which case PM me and I'll give you my address:hyper:

Does he also stockpile guns and ammo to protect his stash from all of us who aren't stockpiling? ;)

I think back to the Y2K hysteria where EVERYONE just HAD to have a generator because the power was most definitely gonna go out all. around. the. world!

I remember Y2K. We had friends who invested I don't know how much money and bought 100-lbs of rice and 100-lbs of beans.

Y2K wasn't about the world ending, it was about computers having a problem with their date codes being in two digit format. When the year 2000 struck, the dates would read "00" and it was predicted there would be problems. My mom was responsible for the team that checked every single piece of medical equipment with computer components in our provence for Y2K compatibility. It used to drive her nuts when people talked about how it was "no big deal" because she spent years of her life making sure it wasn't, as did computer people around the globe. IBM actually donated their people to ensure the dangerous things in orbit were good to go when the clock struck 12.

My poor mother always felt there should have been an award for the computer people of the world for how few problems there actually were. I made her one with glitter the next year. :rotfl:

Oh yes, I'm just starting to stockpile for 12/21/12.

Christmas presents. That is the first day of the kid's holiday vacation and I won't be able to get much shopping done after ;)

Yes, I'm prepared for December 21st. It's the last day of school before xmas vacation and the day we leave to go out of town. :thumbsup2
