***OFFICIAL Grand Floridian Construction Thread (new info!)***

Thanks for the link. I looked at the menu which I guess is a lunch menu. Will there be any hot items served there especially at breakfast?

When will you be there? we are going Oct. 25th thru Nov 2nd... I can look once I am there. I have a feeling they will have popular breakfast items. We always eat at GF Cafe in the morning (due to some allergy and GI issues with our kids and me). I have a feeling mickey/ waffles is not a hard thing for them to supply at Mizners. d.

Thanks so much for this kind offer. We will be there the week after you. It is something how the "food part" of the resort has become such an important part of the experience for our kids.

My niece and I will have some overlapping days with you. I arrive on 21st, she arrives on 26, we depart on 30th -- if only school didn't get in the way, she would be there the entire stay!

It's such a nice time to visit Disney. It is frowned upon at our kid's school to pull them out... but.... what the hay... we're doing it anyway!!!!! Have to beat the big crowds.... Can't wait!!!! Pray for good weather! Glad the splash area will be open. Can't wait to see what changes they've made so far.

Do you ever have honored requests on what building you want to be in? Lagoon view for us... can we call ahead and see if there are openings at Conch Key or Sago Key??

For better or worse my niece goes to a very small private girls' school and only has 11 other girls in her class-so taking her out was not an option - too much to miss and she would definitely be noticed missing.

I have no idea buildings wise what I'm doing yet. We have outer building/garden view booked. From what I've been able to see if appears that if I could get a marina view from either Sago or Conch I would be very happy. Of course a Theme Park View upgrade would be the ultimate, but I'm not expecting anything other than what I paid for. I'm going to do the online checkin in exactly 24 days and request either of those as I believe they do give a lagoon view for a garden view -- someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,

Tom

I'm looking for credible info on the Courtyard Pool reopening. I read that it will be reopening on December 1st. Is this a reliable report? It would make me so, so, so happy if it was!!

FYI, I got the above info from a DIS update on the main page of disboards...the link that announced Gasparilla's closing today (I thought it already was closed). The official WDW website lists the pool as reopening late December.

They won't give an exact date. The water feature over by the beach pool opened later than they had predicted. And besides.. Disney changes dates constantly...

I imagine their only big push would be to get it done before Christmas week when the resort will be packed.

I am heading back "home" to the GF at the end of November. It is a Princess trip, 5 of us girls, 3 have never been to Disney at all. We are staying in Sugarloaf and I normally LOVE the rooms facing the pool - but with the construction should we request a marina view? I just want everything to be great for the new Princesses princess: I know requests cannot be guaranteed but I don;t want to stare at construction - not that we'd be in the room that much ANYWAY but a great view adds to the magic - thoughts?

Yup.. I always love the marina view... but then again.. I usually stay in Conch Key so you get a view of the monorail too

Any updated information to add? Anyone stayed there recently?

Wow, wanted to post but couldn't find the thread! Since you posted, I got an email with a link to the thread..lol

Was there 3 weeks ago. There is A LOT of construction going on, and I'm not going to lie, it was a distraction. The serenity and calm was missing. Guys in construction vests and hard hats always afoot. They are friendly, but still....

The walls hiding the pool construction go all the way to the beach. The new DVC building is enormous and is in the midst of being built... what an eyesore...ughh. I felt like I was in NYC.

There was another pool (the one with the waterfall) available which was nice, along with a new "activity pool" (think Great Wolf Lodge type - if you know what that is).

The whole deal about Mizner's having food to make up for Gasparilla's being closed... well... there's some cold sandwiches available, but that's about it.

All in all, I was disappointed. And, to top it all off, we were flat out LIED to (see my post #88, page 6 of this thread) about nobody being allowed to stay in the main building. There were indeed people staying at the Royal Palm Club. Why they picked us in particular to move to the Sugar Loaf Lodge I can't figure out. We had the room booked for over 6 months.

So Mizner's has the same menu that Gasparilla had? Is there in door seating available? Can you refill the mugs there too?

1) No, not even close

2) I honestly didn't notice

3) No idea, sorry

I really missed Gasparilla's this visit. :guilty:

they have closed off SOME of the rooms in RPC... mostly because they were working right below the rooms in the Gaspies refurb... Some had been moved from that area because of noise.

They also use RPC for the brides (something that is supposed to be moved to the DVC building to free up more room in RPC) so that also would be rooms removed from regular inventory.

These have been found of the possible new look of Gaspies...

@Tink rules- Where did you find these pics? They do look great, a lot more classier than the original Gaspirallas.

Sadly for our last trip we weren't able to stay at the GF but I was able to pay a visit to the resort. I was really happy to see how the construction on the splash area turned out. I'm a big fan of Alice in Wonderland and I thought was adorable. I stepped inside of the temporary quick service area on the second floor. It will work for the not so crowded times but during Thanksgiving, the place is so crammed into one tiny area the place could be a nightmare.

The pics have been circulating for a week or two.

the hot foods are being prepared out by the pool bar... that is temporary until Gaspies is slated to reopen next month.
