NoAlice?Rabbit,Hatter&Chessie Do a HolidayTrip.NEW11/27 1 More Day&I crush on Snowmen

Have fun on your last college visit. That is until you go back to some during the "newly admitted" student days. ;)

Oh boy... can't wait...;) Seriously I am thrilled for her and proud... it just starts to all sound sort of similiar after a while... the info sessions... and then the tours and the super nervous parents asking some silly???s (and this is coming from a neurotic person...;)) "but no... the Dean and President are not going to be able to monitor your child to make sure there is no underage drinking going on-although that is the school's policy... you'd probably have better made sure that they have a good head on their shoulder because they are going to have personal freedom... and no one is going to make them start their homework either because they are 18, in college and supposed to be self motivated..." I don't mean to sound mean... but I do think that an 18-19 year old in college needs to have some self accountability... but then again I don't believe that 30 is the new 21 and that 50 is the new 30 either...;)

Thanks for posting your Maine pictures. I love Maine and I love that lighthouse. I forget the name, but I think it is the most photographed lighthouse in the world. Pretty cool. I think its the cool path that leads to and from it that makes it so special.

Cape Elizabeth- you have good eye/memory...;)

Love "Say Yes to the Dress" , but my all time fav is "What Not to Wear!" :rotfl: Yes, I secretly delight in finding people that really need some extra special attention from Stacy and Clinton. :p

I love, love "What Not to Wear"... I don't know if I would be horrified if I found them following me because of what if means... or if I'd be super excited ...I would so let them help me dress...:rotfl2: I'm just not letting them cut off all my hair... I mean Stacy and Carmody get to keep theirs...:confused3 Love that show though...(I used to think Stacy was the tough one but actually I'm starting to think its Clinton...

I love your plans. I really enjoyed Blue Zoo and I heard the crab nachos there are amazing.

:thumbsup2... Can't wait

I so wish I was going to see the new Fantasyland and Be Our Guest, but I don't think its going to happen this trip.

Oh I think you still be good...:cool1:

Oh - I also love the trip down Disney's memory lane. I remember some of those photos from your last TR!

Looking forward to more plans. Oh - and I love the Cape May Cafe for breakfast. One of my favs.

I'm glad to hear you liked the CMC.. I realize that we don't have any character meals... and since we're right there anyway... ::yes::

20??????????????????????? Holy cats.

Umm yeah... :blush:we actually started sophomore year...that way we could incorporate visits into road trips and I'd have time to process the whole thing...

Having done both breakfasts....I'd vote for Kouzzina. Cape may is fun and if the kids were little and into charaacters, great. But it's buffet food. Good, decent bufffet food mind you but the overall cost is high. Kouzzina....:cloud9: Probably my favorite breakfast in the world, to date. YUM! And reasonable too!

Def going to Kouzinna :thumbsup2 I've read the breakfast menu and it sounds fab...thinking about trying Cape May though too cause I'm a sucker for those characters in their different outfits... gonna see how David feels...

fun fun pictures! I'd love to get up there someday. I have been to Quebec and just loved it. LOVED it. Was a work trip, would adore going there with Jeff on a couples trip.

I really enjoyed Quebec... Want to go back with Eric for Winter Carnival... Think it would make a great long weekend getaway...

For lunch? I might live on the edge and have double ressies...you'll know after arrival day and can cancel accordingly.

Yeah and I decided to change our last day cause we really do need more Epcot time... so I made ressies at Via so we will prob do the pub on first day...

Katharina and I had a wonderful breakfast at Fresh (in the Dolphin) - delicious food!! They make wonderful pancake/omelettes/eggs as you order them. It is also much more affordable than Cape May. :goodvibes

Thanks for the suggestion...I just think that's one of the nice things about the Beach Club...close to lots of restaurants...:thumbsup2

Also, I think you definitely want more Epcot time. I found that being in walking distance from Epcot made me want to spend more time there. I also think for a short trip it will make it more relaxed if you don't spend so much time on busses!

Yes... I've already decided that the last day is an Epcot day...

Hope the College visit is successful! What is she planning to chose for her major?

She wants to probably major in Political Science and then do Law School or work in Public Policy...

Kouzzinna for breakfast. I think we will have to give it a try!
We also had a really nice breakfast at Captian's Grill this past summer. Honestly, that place is never crowded.
Yes, Cape May is your typical breakfast buffet, but the characters are really cute and the food is good. It has such a nice variety. So there is something for everyone. Besides, it's Disney and I still love the characters.

Yes I really think that we are going to have to do that one morning...::yes::

We LOVE the R&C so I vote for keeping that lunch!

::yes:: plus it gives us more wiggle room

You know if the weather is a little cool, the pool will be practically deserted. The water will still be heated to 80 so David will be able to swim and enjoy the water no matter what! I guess the downside to cooler weather is the slide will be a little brrrrrrr!

Oh he'll swim when his lips are blue... I'm the wimp...

Today is 72 Days Until pre Holiday Trip to Disney!!!

Continued...Road Trip...Quebec

So...we left Maine headed North towards Quebec :drive: and the ride was fairly uneventful until we reached the border crossing...(about 4-4 1/2 hours)

Now I don't know if it was just my imagination or the border crossing seems a little ... oh I don't know ... police like?:rolleyes2 - I'm guessing there was a time prior to 9/11 when it was pretty mellow but now the world's a different place...

and I didn't take any pictures because I had a feeling that would be frowned upon and I'm sure there were cameras and I really didn't want to be stopped...

The border crossing agent (Is that the official name? ) checked out all of our passports and seemed particularly interested in what kind of work Eric did... I don't know did he (Eric) seem suspicious...? Maybe he actually has a secret identity and is stealthier than I give him credit for...:confused3

Anyhow we were passed along... and we did see Tim Horton's on the road ...which I think are kind of like Canadian Dunkin Donuts???... not 100% sure but we didn't stop... not even for coffee because we were just tired and anxious to get there...

:hourglass

It was probably a little over an hour from crossing the border when we got there...

We stopped for lunch in a great little bistro outside the fortified walls of the city...Bistro Les Bossus...since it was 3pm we were the only ones there... but no matter we had fun trying out our French on the Waiter...Ems was perfect and David (who has much less vocabulary but a great accent-his ability to imitate all accents is uncanny...he does a great Scottish accent...) was pretty good too..., I wasn't too bad and Eric managed...:-) I don't remember now exactly what we had but I remember it was very good...there was salad and steak frites and I believe someone had profiteroles for dessert...we were so hungry and it was all really good I'm afraid we inhaled everything including a couple glasses of wine...This place really reminded me of some of the little bistros in Paris...(We actually had some great food in Quebec ... I don't think we ate badly once...in four days...)

We put the GPS on and pushed on to our hotel...it was a little nerve wracking since many of the streets are little and curvy and hilly... and we didn't know exactly where we were going... We were staying at the Hotel Le Germain-Dominion in the lower town...the hotel was originally a bank...the street it was on was a financial street back 100 years ago...and many of the buildings were converted. It was really lovely....unfortunately I forgot to get many photos in the lobby...there was a really lovely continental breakfast there in the mornings and joy of joys an espresso/cappucino maker that was on all day... :lovestruc... Emily was slightly horrified because our room had a shower that had a window with blinds that opened in the bedroom...(which I don't get since it was a double double room...?) and I think she was nervous that her brother was going to prank her and open them while she was in the shower... but not only didn't he... I'm not even sure he was even paying attention that it was there since he is always more into the mini bar and what is on the tv... There was a great little fountain right out front about 100 feet away from the front door....

I have been really lucky on the college tours - no crazy parents asking a million questions. Not sure how I have been lucking out, but I have. :thumbsup2

I really want to visit Canada. I haven't been there for quite awhile and I want to go back.

Really cute pics of Em! Love this one.....

Quebec Continued...

Most of the "tourist sites" in Quebec City are fairly concentrated and walkable ...:cool1:

Our hotel was in the lower town and about a 5 minute walk from the Place Royale which is considered to be the birthplace of French America... in the 17th and 18th century there was market here and there is a lovely little church on one side along with a great little museum with a film and some exhibits on Quebec's founding...

Right around the corner before we got to this mural that contains pictures of some famous Quebecois...

100_0295-1.jpg

100_0293.jpg

Then the Place Royale...

100_0301.jpg

Oddly enough there is no Le Cellier on the map???

100_0303.jpg

Hmmm...Maybe they forgot to put it on...:rotfl2: I'll bet if there was one here it would be easier to get into than the one in Epcot...;)

Charming street with a few really great shops...

100_0306.jpg

To get to the Upper Town, you can either walk up-or down if you're coming to the Lower Town something called the "L'Escalier du Casse-Cou or the "Breakneck Stairs" or take the Funiculaire.... We decided to save the stairs for another day...

These are the tracks it rides on... It looks like a large glass elevator going down sideways...

100_0308.jpg

Which takes us to the Upper Town, the Chateau Frontenac and the Place Dufferin....

100_0315-1.jpg

100_0326-1.jpg

100_0329-1.jpg

100_0334-1.jpg

This kiosk is like the ones in Paris- a little smaller...there's a poster for a great Samurai exhibit we saw...

100_0338-1.jpg

It was very charming... I can't say that it reminded me of Paris but it was quite definitely French in feel, like I imagine a small city in Normandy would be...

100_0344-1.jpg

100_0354-1.jpg

100_0359-1.jpg

I definitely intend to go back...I think during Winter Carnivale ...:thumbsup2

I think the history of the City is really fascinating... when it was originally settled over 400 years ago at this point, somewhere along the way one of the French King's decided that to populate his "New France" he would need to send women over so the men that went first could claim wives... "Daughters of the King" were sent over... and many of these ladies were most certainly not Daughters of the King... but it was a fresh start for many of them...

There is a really fun mystery series set in the province of Quebec mainly Montreal and a little town in the countryside but the fourth in the series, "Bury Your Dead" takes place in Quebec City. The main character is a Chief Inspector Armand Gamache -he is very likeable. The author is Louise Penny.

Anyhow...

We drove about 15 minutes from the City to a little Island called the Ile D'Orleans...the main attraction of this lovely little Island (for us at least) was the apples the grow there or more importantly the Cider (alcoholic) that they make with them...:thumbsup2

The Island itself is picturesque and full of vineyards and cideries... we stopped a couple of times and did some tastings, had lunch, etc. And there is something even better than cider and that would be the ice cider... which is kind of equivalent to ice wine. Ice cider is absolutely wonderful as an after or before dinner drink but you have to be careful because it just tastes like the most wonderful concentrated apple juice you have ever had...;)

It was really quite pretty and the tastings were very good...:thumbsup2

So I'll leave Quebec with two thoughts...

1. If General Montcalm had beaten General Wolfe on the Plains of Abraham, (instead of the way it actually happened) in a 20 minute battle during the Seven Years or French and Indian Wars, we might all be writing trip reports in French right now...::yes::

and

2. I'm truly not sure if I can actually go to a country that isn't in World Showcase...:rotfl:

....

and since we'll be staying at the Beach Club-I'll be able to easily walk over and think about that...

I am going to keep my Rose and Crown Pub Ressie for our first lunch and I moved Via to the last lunch...

Now I just have to think about how many breakfast ressies I want and where...:rolleyes1

OOps. Sorry I interrupted your updates last night. I will come back this evening to read the ones I missed. I absolutely can't even start without being able to see the pictures, so hold my spot until I return. :rotfl2:

Ugh, crossing the border stresses me out anymore. Used to be such a low key thing and now...UGH. I get grilled each time b/c the E's have a different last name. Last time they even asked the boys how long they'd known each of us.

Chateau Frontenac, oh I love that place. I was lucky enough to stay there. :lovestruc

Great update!

I'm here and joining in the fun.

We are going to miss each other by a few days. We are spending our last 2 nights at the Beach Club. I can hardly wait. I have been dying to stay there for some time.

Loving your report on Quebec. Such beautiful area. Would love to visit someday.

Are you going to do a report on Disneyland?

I have been really lucky on the college tours - no crazy parents asking a million questions. Not sure how I have been lucking out, but I have. :thumbsup2

YOU have been lucky...::yes:: Probably part of my problem is I'm always in search of a cup of coffee during the info sessions... and when I don't get one it makes me cranky...:coffee: I'm really pretty empathetic and I get that it's a rough process emotionally but I think that some of the parent's I've run into think their kids are going to be way more supervised than they are ... I think by the time "kids" are in college they are going to have access to alcohol by hook or by crook and access to members of the opposite sex... and you'd better just hope you've had all of those talks already... not when they're walking out your door to college...:scratchin

I really want to visit Canada. I haven't been there for quite awhile and I want to go back.

Well you should... you could go up to Quebec or Montreal-neither too far or Nova Scotia if you want more English...

or if we nab some extra cash...

we could go to Vancouver and Victoria and then visit Cynthia in Seattle...:moped: I'm sure she'd be happy to :welcome: us to the Pacific Northwest...

Really cute pics of Em! Love this one.....

Great update!

It feels weird doesn't it? Ugh... I can't believe they asked the E's that... we had something like that at the airport once...they asked David who we (Eric and I were... ? :rolleyes2 ) I know it's probably all for the best... but still...

O la la ... you stayed at the Frontenac.:lovestruc.. did you know they have a Starbucks 0n the side/in the Lobby now? I have mixed feeling about that but I happened to make use of it...:coffee: ...tables outside with good people watching...probably one of the best views at any Starbucks...with the St. Lawrence in the view... but I'm sure there will be a Starbucks at the Vatican one day... hmmm...the souvenir possibilities boggle the mind...:scratchin

:rotfl2: You are certainly correct on that account!

I mean seriously... I'd be surprised to find many restaurants in all of Canada that are as hard to get into as Le Cellier...

Cute picture!

Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!

I really love the Hard Apple Cider...I don't like beer that much and a cider is a really nice alternative...(I love just about apple... and the ice cider really is to die for..

I'm so excited to be staying there...:cool1:... Aren't you super excited about Fantasyland too? Even though the official opening is December 6th... they have to be previewing since Be Our Guest will be open... but you already know that cause you scored ressies...:cool1:

Loving your report on Quebec. Such beautiful area. Would love to visit someday.

Thank you... it really was lovely...

Are you going to do a report on Disneyland?

Well it's funny that you should mention that...:scratchin ... I am and I think I'll start it later today...Last summer August 2011...we were in San Francisco, Big Sur, LA and Disneyland for 3 nights... We went to the Disney Family Museum in San Francisco and the Disney Concert Hall in LA before going to Disneyland so I think I will start to write that up while I am doing pre trip report stuff for November's trip...Nothing goes with writing about going to Disney than talking about having been to Disney...Don't you think...:rotfl2:

Hello Patricia! I understand completely the situation you are in with 'Alice'. My older daughter is a junior this year and we originally had a WDW trip planned for December of 2013. But we realized it would be a disaster to try and take her out of school as a senior (plus little sis would be a freshman).

I can also sympathize about the mother/health situation. We are actually in the midst of the process of moving my mother-in-law into an assisted care facility. She has been living at home with us for years but her health and mobility has decreased to the point where we can’t give her the level of care she now needs. It is a very emotional struggle with no easy answers. I hope your mother continues to do well. :goodvibes

So we’re going to be down there around the same time you are and at least at this point our girls don’t have a clue!

I like your idea of 3’s and love the Schoolhouse Rock reference. We’ve never eaten at Via Napoli either have ADRs for it. Good luck with Gaston’s/Be Our Guest, we’re trying to make something work for that too.

You’ll like RnRC if you haven’t done it before – smoothest and most fun dark coaster ride I’ve ever been on. My daredevil DD and I rode it 7 times in one day. We’ll be seeing the Osbourne lights for the first time also. I like the idea of the 3 bars and have heard wonderful things about the Margaritas at Cava. Good bucket list!

Good luck with the flight and travel time, hope you are able to make those Via Napoli reservations. We’re also trying to make it to EPCOT after we arrive (your fam and ours both arrive on the 29th). We’re hoping to catch the Candlelight Processional and Neil Patrick Harris’s last telling of The Story of Christmas. It should be interesting to see how it goes.

We’re also doing DHS for the 30th with Sci-Fi for lunch. We’ve seen Fantasmic! a couple of times so we’re really focusing on seeing those Osbourne lights! I know your family will enjoy Fantasmic! I’ve heard a lot about different things being previewed in the new Fantasyland – I hope you are able to experience as much of it as possible. :thumbsup2

Good luck figuring out your Monday and your ADRs in relation to it. Sometimes the ADR availability guides the park choice.

Quebec looked like a lot of fun; you guys really got around and experienced a lot of stuff! Beautiful place for sure.

I look forward to hearing how things shape up as the date draws nearer – can’t believe it is already down to 68 days!!!:banana::banana:

It's definitely a challenge you don't face when their in elementary school...:rolleyes2

Good luck with your mil... it's really difficult to have your parent's getting older and worrying that you're making the right choices... My mom is actually doing well right now...Thanks...:goodvibes

I just can't wait to see it...::yes:: & God bless School House Rock- I can still say the preamble to the Constitution and I'm sure it's because of that...:goodvibes

It's the one restaurant DS requests so we'll def do...:thumbsup2 Going to do the lights before Fantasmic...I think...:scratchin... OH please, please, please let them be doing previews of Fantasyland...:worship: they usually have soft openings before the official

Good luck figuring out your Monday and your ADRs in relation to it. Sometimes the ADR availability guides the park choice.

Trying to talk my men into a Character Breakfast... Maybe Cape May Buffet...
Kouzinna a def breakfast...prob should make ADRs...

Def going to check out Holiday Decorations at The BC, YC, Boardwalk and the Swan and Dolphin (since going to bluezoo)... would like to do a monorail loop of the monorail resorts... and check out the ones there...prob one evening...

Should I try to do a Candlelight Processional and When...??? :confused3 ... We've done the Christmas Party so if we're considering doing an evening add on... I think it should be the CP... hmmm.... what to do....

Anyhow...while I ponder that...

I thought I'd give a sneak peek at my newest TR within this PTR...

Through the Looking Glass Flashback to California/Disneyland Road Trip

As much as I like going to Disney World (when possible) I have also become quite fond of California...

Not only does it have one of my favorite cities, San Francisco but it has the original Disney park... Disneyland... and you can drive through some of the most beautiful roads anywhere in the world along the Pacific Ocean (going) through Big Sur... oh and we can't forget Los Angeles...

We began in San Francisco where we stayed for 5 nights, drove down towards Monterey, through Big Sur, staying overnight before continuing to Los Angeles for three nights before finishing at Disneyland Resort for three nights...

It will be full of thrills and chills...(Actually that's true- San Francisco can get pretty brisk even in August...::yes::... Time to go through that looking glass...

Oh I'd do the CP if you can fit it in. Over the party and a character breakfast for sure. I am dying to do it if we really ever make it there for the holidays. Where to fit it in is a darn good question though, your plans are awfully lovely as they are!

Ah, some of my mostest favoritest places in the world! I think Jeff and I are going to have to run away to San Fran for a weekend in Dec. We'd prefer somewhere a bit more exotic but it's affordable from here and we just love it there.

I love the Candlelight Processional. I actually have walked up to it once it was started and just stood and watched parts of it. But if you could get a CP package or get there early enough for a real seat, I recommend it. I love music and it is so professionally presented.

I also am a big fan of CMC breakfast. I love the beachy theme of the characters and the food is yummy.

I didn't realize you bought points at the BC. Woo hoo! :cool1: That is awesome. Cynthia and I stayed there in May 2011 and I loved everything about it. Can't wait to stay there again.

Yeah for a bonus DL TR! :thumbsup2

Patricia, your family is so delightful in the pictures of Quebec. This report is really making me want to visit Canada. It appears that their is more to it than the WS pavilion. :rotfl2:
I think your plans sound well thought out and quite organized!
So unlike our travels. Haha!
I can't wait to see what you do about that breakfast!

Oh I'd do the CP if you can fit it in. Over the party and a character breakfast for sure. I am dying to do it if we really ever make it there for the holidays. Where to fit it in is a darn good question though, your plans are awfully lovely as they are!

Yep I agree with the CP-and so I've fit it in-got ressies for dinner pkg...;) Switched around bluezoo to where Yachtsmen was...can hit Yachtsman next time but can only do CP at Christmas time...

Ah, some of my mostest favoritest places in the world! I think Jeff and I are going to have to run away to San Fran for a weekend in Dec. We'd prefer somewhere a bit more exotic but it's affordable from here and we just love it there.

Yeah, that makes me a teeny bit jealous that what, is that a two hour flight for you? :rolleyes2

I love the Candlelight Processional. I actually have walked up to it once it was started and just stood and watched parts of it. But if you could get a CP package or get there early enough for a real seat, I recommend it. I love music and it is so professionally presented.

CP Package...::yes:: I didn't want to take the chance with the seating...

I also am a big fan of CMC breakfast. I love the beachy theme of the characters and the food is yummy.

I know I am working on Eric with that one.. I'd like to see the characters in Beach Wear...::yes::

I didn't realize you bought points at the BC. Woo hoo! :cool1: That is awesome. Cynthia and I stayed there in May 2011 and I loved everything about it. Can't wait to stay there again.

Yep... finally drank the Disney kool aid...just 80 for right now and hope to another 25 in next couple of months... but I'm sure we'll be adding more down the road...:hyper:

Yeah for a bonus DL TR! :thumbsup2

Hoping to start that in ernest tonight...pixiedust:

So unlike our travels. Haha!
I can't wait to see what you do about that breakfast!

Quebec was really fun... :goodvibes I'd love to visit other parts of Canada as well...and I'm sure no matter we went in Canada we'd still have a hard time finding a restaurant as hard to get ressies for as Le Cellier...:rotfl:

I'm working on the CM Character Breakfast with Eric... he's being slightly curmudgeonly about it...I didn't want to push yesterday right after I convinced him about the CP... I'll wait a day or two...;)
