According to the Sunpass website Alamo charges $2/24 hour period plus tolls with a maximum of $6.00 per rental timeframe plus tolls. It also says that participation is automatic (so pass is installed in the car) when you use the Sunpass Only, Express, E-Pass Only or LeeWay Only Lanes. If you decide to go to the toll booth and pay cash you shouldn't be charged. Our daughter just paid the tolls when she rented from them in June and there was no charge for the Sunpass.
Just to clarify, you are only charged IF you use the Alamo/National toll by plate system. It is automatic, but, if you choose to pay with cash, you are not charged anything. It is NOT a Sunpass per se, it is a toll by plate system and we call it a
Toll Pass.
6.00 maximum fee per rental period plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates) Participation is automatic.
Opt-in decision is made when the driver elects to use EXPRESS, SunPass ONLY, E-PASS ONLY or LeeWay ONLY lanes.
Nothing to decide at time of rental.
