He loved the kayaking even though he got caught out by a wave right at the end and ended up with an unplanned swim.
Yes, Gmail where fantastic about it, but this was not what I wanted to come back to after a wonderful cruise.

Day 21
I gave up and around 6:30 and got up after we had the night from hell. Remember the strange noise from the evening before? Well it turned out that it was not out neighbours doing the laundry. We had both dropped off quickly enough as we were both absolutely exhausted, but were woken up by the noise a couple of hours later and neither of us went back to sleep. This had the effect that both of us were tired and cranky on Graham's only park day. Fortunately we had bought Graham's ticket the evening before as I am not sure that we would have gone to Disneyland that day otherwise.
As it was a Tuesday, it was an early admission day for resort guests. We figured me may as well get our money's worth out of Graham's ticket. On the way out, I decided to try to find out where this awful noise was coming from. This had never stopped and actually the whole wall behind the bed was vibrating. I walked around the corner to the corridor that was running behind our room and there was a panel on the wall right the other side of where the headboard of our bed would have been. We were pretty sure that this had something to do with the air conditioning. Standing right next to it, it sounded like a helicopter was talking off. I took a photo of the offending panel and then we headed out.
I love how everything at Disneyland is so close. A short walk through Downtown Disney and we were at the entrance to Disneyland. There seem to be a lot of people around, but most of them seem to be day guest who had to wait until the official opening time. At the far end, they had some turnstiles open for resort guests and we handed over our tickets and room keys to one of the attendants and we were in. I have never done Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom so I don't know how it compares. At Disneyland only selected rides in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are open. Graham had no preference so we headed towards Tomorrowland first. When we came past Star Tours, there was a published waiting time of 5 minutes. That was too good to pass up. I had never liked the old version, but when we tried the new version at the Halloween party last year, I actually really enjoyed it. So we decided to do it again. I know that there is a staggering amount of possible combinations, but I could not tell you if the start and end was any different, but the middle definitely was. We had some kind of jungle or forest scene and I really enjoyed this. When we came out of Star Tours, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters was a walk on so we did this. Graham beat me in style as usual. We headed towards Space Mountain, but that already had a 20 minute wait. As this is not a favourite for either of us, we passed.
We headed across to Fantasyland. I had hoped that we would be able to do Peter Pan's Flight. However, this already had a posted waiting time of 45 minutes so we passed. Pinocchio's Daring Journey and Snow White's Scary Adventures were both a walk on so we did those two next. By that time, the park had opened to the general public. I decided that I wanted to check out the Fairytale Canal Boats. I have only ever done those in Paris with the French commentary. The waiting time was about 10 minutes so this was too good to pass up. I am glad that I did it once, but I don't think I will do it again. The most amusing thing about this ride was the invasion of the giant ducks. There are ducks everywhere on this ride, both in the water and on the land. Because of the scale f the ride, the ducks were almost the same size as the buildings. Unfortunately I did not take any photos of this. Once we had done this ride, we headed over to It's A Small World. This was a walk on and we actually ended up with a boat to ourselves. I really love the version of this ride. I found some characters that I had not seen the last time round.
When we got off the ride, we were virtually on top of the Toon Town Train Station. We had a quick bathroom stop and then we headed for the train station. This is probably Graham's favourite ride at the parks. We did not have to wait long until the train arrived. We ended up sitting at the far end of the train right next to the Lilly Belle Presidential Parlour Car. It was nice to see the Lilly Belle out and about. We took the whole loop and then stayed on until New Orleans Square on the second way round. I was not entirely sure where the access to Blue Bayou was. All the construction at New Orleans Square had been completed and this looked completely different from last year. It did not take us long to find the entrance to Blue Bayou. As we still had about an hour until lunch, we headed over to Pirates of the Caribbean, which had a posted 10 minute wait, but it was actually about half that. I remembered the first time I had been to Disneyland when I waited a good hour for this ride. I enjoyed the ride very much again. I got a little wet on both drops this time round. Once we came off the ride, we headed down towards the Rivers of America to enjoy the sunshine and the view and to dry out.
I had headed over to Blue Bayou a bit earlier to make sure that our lunch companions were not already waiting for us, but then had joined Graham again. About 15 minutes ahead of our reservation, we both headed over to Blue Bayou and our friends had just arrived and had already checked in. The waiting area looks very luxurious, but we did not really get the chance to appreciate this as we were taken to our table almost straight away. We had a table right by the water. Shortly after we were seated, our server came with the menus. They have a normal a la carte menu and then another menu with daily specials. We all decided to go with the normal menu. Graham just had water to drink, but I got quite excited when I found out that Mint Julep was one of the options. Dinner either came with New Orleans Gumbo or a Cajun salad. We both went with the Gumbo. Graham had Roasted Beef Strip Loin seasoned with Chef's signature five pepper blend, then slow roasted over rock salt. Topped with Armagnac sauce and crispy hand battered onion rings. With Blue Bayou potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I had Le Special de Monte Cristo, which consisted of Turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese in a battered egg bread, lightly fried to a golden brown. With Blue Bayou potatoes and seasonal vegetables. We both enjoyed our meal. It was a great meal in terms of food, atmosphere and company. I am so glad that we finally got to experience this.

After lunch we said goodbye to our friends. This was their only full day at Disneyland and they wanted to hit the rides at California Adventure. We stayed at Disneyland. We were at a bit of a loss as to what to do. We were pretty stuffed so did not really fancy any rides. Graham spotted one of the rafts to Pirate Lair on the Rivers of America. So we decided to head over there. I had never been to either Tom Sawyer's Island at Walt Disney World or to Pirates Lair before and was quite curious. I was not overly impressed. There was actually very little there. The caves had been blocked off for some reason. We walked over the rope bridge and the pontoon bridge. I was fine with the rope bridge, but did not like the pontoon bridge. I took a couple of photos and then we back to the raft dock.
We headed towards Critter Country. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh only had a short wait so we did this. I got a right buzz about the cross between bees and elephants on the ride vehicles, but Graham found them rather disturbing. When we came out of the ride, Tigger was out for photos nearby, but he had quite a line. Graham offered to wait for me in the shade, but I decided to pass.
We headed back towards the Rivers of America. Graham headed straight towards the landing for the Mark Twain Riverboat. The boat was on its way around the Rivers of America, but the waiting area in the shade was bliss. When the boat arrived at the landing, we got on and got some seats on a bench on the first level of the boat. Graham took this opportunity for another nap and I enjoyed the scenery. When we had finished the ride, we headed towards Big Thunder Ranch. On the way, we spotted that Big Thunder Mountain only had a 10 minute wait. So we decided to give this a go. Most of the waiting time was taken up by walking the endless paths from the entrance to the loading dock. Be both enjoyed the ride. Afterwards, we carried on to Big Thunder Ranch. On the way, we something rather amusing. For some reason a bunch of Cast Members were wheeling office chairs along the path. This did not quite fit with the theme of Frontierland. Big Thunder Ranch looked completely different from when we were there in October. They had more animals out and it was nice and relaxing on the whole.
When we had enough of Big Thunder Ranch, we headed across toFantasyland. On the way we both got something to drink. Graham had some Powerade and I had some orange soda. He teased me mercilessly about how unhealthy my drink was, which I found quite funny considering his drink was bright blue. We spent some time people watching while we had our drinks. Once we had finished them,we headed back to Tommorowland. I wanted to have another go at Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. They had rearranged the line since the morning and it looked quite long even though the posted waiting time was only 10 minutes. Graham decided to pass and found somewhere to sit. In the end I did this 3 times in the row as the actual wait time was closer to 5 minutes. When I finished with the ride, I joined Graham and we did some people watching for a while before heading to the Tomorrowland train station to take a ride back to Main Street. Again we ended up on the train that pulled the Lilly Belle Presidential Parlour Car and I was eyeing her jealously. I mentioned to Graham that I wish I could ride inside the Lilly Belle. It was my understanding that the Lilly Belle is reserved for members of Club 33 and their guests. When we arrived at Main Street station, we stayed behind for a bit. I wanted to try to get some photos of the Lilly Belle. Unfortunately this did not quite work out as the photos ended up being out of focus and by the time I realised this, the Lilly Belle was too far away to try again. Graham got chatting to one of the cast members at the station. He asked her how one goes about getting a ride on the Lilly Belle. The answer really surprised me. She told us that there is a limited number of tickets that is there just for the asking. They had all gone for the day, but if we were coming back another day, we should come to Mainstreet station as soon as the park opens to check if the Lilly Belle was out that day and to ask for tickets. Graham looked very smug when he told me "There you go."
After this, we headed back to the hotel as we both had enough for one day, especially as we had next to no sleep the previous night. Graham was a little ahead of me. I figured I would catch up with him soon enough and headed straight to the front desk. I am not normally somebody who complains, but I wanted to enjoy my stay at Disneyland and not be too tired to do so. When it was my turn, I approached the desk and started to explain what my issue was. The person I was speaking to had an Earning my Ears tag and was not quite sure what to do with me. She looked for help from a supervisor and he asked me to follow him to another position with a more experienced cast member. I told her what the problem was and she went to speak to a manager. While she was gone, Graham turned up. I noticed that he had temporarily lost me and came looking for me. A little while later, she came back to tell me that all DVC studios were full that night, but that she could move us the next day. She warned us that the new studio would have a pool view rather than the theme park view that our studio had. I told her that we did not care about the view, but that we just wanted somewhere quiet where we could get some sleep. We also told her that we could not cope with another night with no sleep. She disappeared again and then came back to advise that she did have a standard hotel room that she could move us straight away. She advised us that it has two Queen beds rather than one bed and the sofa and also did not have the kitchenette. We were fine with this. She even offered to get housekeeping to find us a microwave and some paper plates, etc., but we declined. She then said that we had two choices. We could move to the hotel room for one night and then move to the studio the next day or we could stay in the hotel room for the rest of our stay. We opted to stay in the hotel room for the rest of our stay. She advised us that because we had a problem with noise, they would waive the normal change of room fee and there would also be no extra cost for the new room.
The cast member who had helped us disappeared to the back office again and when she came back, she explained that the accounting had been a bit of a challenge, but that we were all set. She asked if we were ready to move. I told her that I would need 10 to 15 minutes to get organised and she asked me to call bell services when we are ready and somebody would come up with the new key and to help us move. As soon as we were all packed up, I called bell services and the person who I spoke to initially had no idea what I was talking about. I was briefly put on hold and then advised that somebody would be up shortly.
It took about 15 minutes until somebody arrived. He had our new keys. As soon as he entered the room, he noticed the noise and wondered where it was coming from. We did a little detour to show him and he said that he would report this to maintenance. He then took us to our new room. We were on the 5th floor and had the most amazing view over Paradise Pier. We thanked and tipped our bell man and as soon as the door was shut, we headed to bed for a couple of hours to get some sleep.
When we woke up, we decided to get something to eat. Neither of us fancied going out to eat so we decided to head down to the Hearthstone Lounge. We both had the Robusto Flat Bread topped with Chorizo de Bilbao, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Burrata Cheese and Romesco Sauce. Graham was a little doubtful that this would be enough, but we were both stuffed. Graham had a glass of Sangria with his meal and I decided to try the white Sangria, which was delicious.
The one problem that our move to a hotel room had presented us with is that we did not have a corkscrew anymore. I was sure that housekeeping would provide one if asked, but decided I would see if the gift shop would sell me one. The only one I could see on the shelves was a gift set of a Mickey head bottle stopper and a corkscrew, but that was more expensive than what I was willing to pay. As they do sell wine, I decided to check if they had something cheaper behind the till. I was given a complimentary corkscrew. With that in hand, we headed back to our room. World of Color was nearly finished so we had missed this again. Still, I got a quick preview what out view was like. We decided to have a nightcap and opened the bottle of White Zinfandel that I had bought in Ensenada. It was absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could get this here. Once we had finished out wine, we headed to bed and got a good night sleep.

Aside from the horrible airconditioning ruining your sleep, your day sounded like great fun. How nice to find so many short waits and walk-ons. I hope you were able to ride the Lilly Belle later on the trip.

I was really surprised how short the waiting times were. It made all the difference doing the early entry. I have never done EMH at WDW, but if they have EMH at Epcot during our stay at BWV, I will definitely give it a go.

I am so glad that they moved you, and that you got a good nights sleep.
The day was full of adventure and you got to do and see a lot.
I hate changing rooms also, but it was the right thing to do. Our last cruise they moved us in the middle of the night and the housekeeping people moved everything, which was nice, we were so tired from not getting any sleep. I can understand how you felt.

I did not make it out to Disney anyway...
What a shame that you never made it to Disney.
Having a quiet room and being able to get some sleep really made all the difference.

I love the staff at the GC, they are usually so nice and accomodating. I'm glad that Graham found out about the Lilly Belle for you. They changed that recently.
Sounds like you are now on your way to having a relaxing time. I have to remember that this trip took place before CL was open so you didn't get to go see that.

I've really been enjoying your trip report! Love all the jewelry and accessories that you made. They have definitely inspired me to make some things for our upcoming cruise (we're going to be on the same November Western, I believe!)
I really like the bottle cap pirate necklaces....may have to try and create something like it for my girls. Did you create the pirate image yourself, or was it a sticker or something? I also love the hidden mickey tile pendants. I'm a lover of very subtle Mickey stuff.
About the Rainforest room...can you tell me more about what's included with a pass? I'm considering purchasing one for my mom, since we're leaving her on the ship at Grand Cayman. She's not a real "spa" person, but I would love to spoil her if she'll let me! How crowded do you think it would be on a port day? Does someone show you what amenities are available (since I wouldn't be able to go with her)?

Right, I had some sleep and I can think straight again.
The bottle cap pirate graphics came from somebody on the Creative Disigns forum. I just posted a thread asking for 1" round Pirate medallions. I usually get my bottle cap graphics from Etsy and they just print as 1" straight away, but I had to tweak those quite a bit as they came as a Word document rather than as JPEG. I can't remember who did mine, but I know that Shadowryter has some as well so it may well pay you to post a request on her Disign thread. I can PM you the Hidden Mickey graphics if you like. They are designed to work with 1" square glass tiles.
The Rainforest Pass gives you access to the actual Tropical Rainforest room. I have hardly ever found it crowded and I think on a port day it will be positively deserted. You can either get a day pass or a length of cruise pass. The Rainforest room as 4 heated tile loungers, a heated bench along the back ball, a mild sauna, two steam rooms of varying intensity, an ice fountain, a fog shower, a tropical rain shower and a shower with jets on the side. I love the heated tile loungers and the mild sauna. The steam rooms are a little intense for me. The locker rooms also have a lounge area with nice comfortable day beds and a proper sauna. They are free to use for anybody. On embarkation day, they do spa tours and I would recommend that you do one of those with your mom and advise your guide that you are particularly interested in the Rainforest Room.

Yes, please! I will have to figure out how to make those. My girls and I actually made quite a few bottle cap magnets/necklaces for the holidays last year, so I still have the supplies for that. I didn't realize you could buy downloadable images for them on Etsy! I guess you can buy everything on Etsy.
I will try and do that with her (although I know how hectic things are on embarkation day!). I thought I read somewhere that you now can only buy day passes online beforehand, so I guess I will take a chance and buy her one and then take her there and show her around that first day.
Do you know if the locker rooms have "regular" (non tub/shower combo) showers? Are they kind of like an athletic facility's showers with curtains or a door? Because I was thinking that my mom might actually find it more comfortable to shower there than having to step in a tub in the stateroom. I believe we're midships on deck 8, so she wouldn't have far to go!
