Disney Dream vs Fantasy food

According to the web site Cruise Critic, guests on the Dream have rated the food a 4.2 out of 5, and guests on the Fantasy have rated the food 4.7.

Can anyone account for the vast difference in opinion? Aren't they similar in restaurants and menus?

All thoughts appreciated...

I don't feel that's such a wide variance in scores.

There's a couple of things that could be in play here: different chefs on different ships, so food is prepared differently; and food is very subjective, what one person loves another hates. I think it's really difficult to rate such things, unless the food is out and out bad.

I would consider it a large difference.... if you were in school it is similar to comparing a 84 and a 94. Which grade would you rather have?

At this point it the comparison your making is like comparing apples and oranges.

From the CC website there are 205 reviews of the Dream and 28 reviews of the Fantasy. I suspect that if the sample size was similar the scores on food would closely match on both ships.

This. Statistically speaking, those scores mean next to nothing. I never trust any user driven polls.

We did both ships. For us the Fantasy went smoother, so the food was a little bit better, but it is 7 days so there were more food options.

the 2 things I didnt like on the Fantasy.. popcorn soup and the crepes on pirate night. ( now have lemon zest--- yuck!)

Captain's Gala (which served lobster) can only be experienced by the Fantasy cruisers. I would think that if people enjoyed the lobster, they would rate the food better.

Also, the shorter cruises on the Dream can also affect the enjoyment of the meals. For instance, we felt an atmosphere of "rush" in the Dream. I think people may have gobbled down their food in order to do more things in such a small time that they didn't enjoy it. On the Fantasy cruise, we rarely saw rushing or crowds and most people seem to be taking their time.

We were on the 5 night Dream in August. I don't think I would call it rushed, or trying to "fit everything in" until, of course, the last night, which I am sure is on all cruises regardless of duration.

There seemed to be plenty of time to do everything we wanted (except for that one whiskey tasting that they scheduled for 6PM.... during our dining time!

We'll be spending 4 nights on the Dream next July and was wondering from those who have traveled on both lines: is popcorn soup served on both? She had it on the Fantasy but someone else I know was on the Dream last month and doesn't recall it being on the menu. Thanks!

It is only served on the Fantasy during the night where you drawings appear on the screens in the restaurant.

This is NOT school. Come on this is a food service/quality grade that you are comparing on a 1-5 scale.

There is also a slight demographic difference of the people on the two ships because of the cruise lengths. The longer the cruise, the less children on the ships. This could effect peoples perceived enjoyment of the meals and their expectations.

Lobster tail is served on the night of the Captain's Gala menu. Lobster is available in other dishes on most nights.

I really suspect that the difference in the ratings reflects the people who did the ratings more than any actually difference in the food. We were surprised over the years to find that most polls listed the Wonder as a notch or two higher than the Magic...but if you look at the polls, you'd also find many more voters on the Wonder side.
