Stayed at a Wyndham Timeshare Property this weekend...so glad we bought DVC!

Once again, so glad that we bought into DVC! We stayed in Myrtle Beach this past weekend at a Wyndham Timeshare resort (Seawatch Plantation). To my knowledge this property has condos that wyndham rents, timeshares and condos that people actually own (we stayed in the later and rented through a rental company). Although this property had good ratings from TA, it just didn't hold a candle to the way in which WDW has kept up their properties! The pools were cloudy and smelled, the halls and common areas were just not that well taken care of and I guess WDW has just spoiled us with their theming cause there was none at this resort. I would be so sad if I was an owner at this place!

No one should have to swim in a cloudy, smelly pool. Gross

Interesting. We are looking forward to Wyndham Pagosa (CO) this weekend. We have four nights booked on a discounted cash rate through Worldmark as an affiliate property. I'm really looking forward to this trip!
  • CHECK! Dog in kennel?
  • CHECK! Bird in kennel?
  • CHECK! Picked up the mail?
  • Change the oil on the FJ?
  • Grocery run?
  • CHECK! Travel route planned with gas and food stops?
  • CHECK! Printed copies of our room reservation?
  • CHECK! Event tickets?
  • Packed?
  • Finish work and complete timesheet?

I haven't been to Seawatch, but the Wyndham properties I have stayed in have all been quite nice.

Haven't stayed at Pagosa, but it looks beautiful. Have a great trip.

You'd have to know a lot more about the management of that particular resort before you can blame it on Wyndham. Wyndham has some properties like that, where there is a mix of ownership. In some cases (Ocean Walk in Daytona Beach comes to mind) there have been situations where the condo owners were in the majority. In some cases condo owners control the association and have refused to keep up the property because they didn't want their fees to go up. A couple of years ago, Ocean Walk had similar problems to what you experienced.

I've stayed at several Wyndham timeshare properties (including Wyndham Bonnet Creek at WDW) and the general upkeep where I've stayed has been at least as good as DVC, and the resort amenities have been better.

Timeshares generally -- and especially away from WDW -- don't usually have the theming of a DVC resort. I'm not sure what kind of theming one would expect at Myrtle Beach?

Thanks! We are within 90 minutes of arrival. It has been a spectacular drive! Gorgeous scenery! This escape is going great so far ...

Wyndham, Bluegreen, even Marriott are more variable than DVC. I don't know this property but from what I've seen it's not rated very highly. I'd caution anyone on using Trip Advisor as a main source of information. The TUG reviews and ratings and Timesharing Today ratings are far more accurate and in general I think the reviews give much more usable information partly because when owners rate their own properties, they aren't very objective or accurate. This property is number 12 in SC and has a rating of 8.63 with 15 people rating it. DVC is not my standard for timeshares, I find there are many timeshares that are overall better than the DVC resorts and this is excluding Ritz and Four Seasons. DVC excels at theming, on property location where applicable and flexibility of the system. The Marriott in MB is the top property there.

:thumbsup2 I have stayed at Daytona's Ocean Walk (Wynd) twice and for a 1 bedroom ocean veiw delexe at 99$ a night (with a 2 night min), it is WAY cheaper than Vero.. and has a lazy river. (and an outside shopping mall-ish thing, awesome food choices, and a go cart place walking dist next door. ) I will stay there again on another trip.. (next trip going to US/AOA instead of the beach)

I also have not stayed at Bonnet Creek, but I have visited 2 diff people there, and it is NICE! and tons of people on DIS swear by it. The pool is amazing, and the view is as nice as SSR.

I am so sorry this one didn't work out for you this time.
glad you happy with DVC :)

I'm writing from Ocean Walk right now. The unit we're in is every bit as nice as any Marriott, DVC, Hilton or Bluegreen unit we've been in other than Presidential units. It's also larger than most of them. My Wyndham experience isn't as broad as some other systems but I've seen may 8 or 9 resorts including rooms and none were below my standards which are pretty high.

Our stay was fantastic! The 1BR unit ("A" side of lockout) was huge and in great condition. For the first time we can remember since using timeshare (12+ years) we had more closet and storage space than we knew what to do with! My husband got a bit perfunzled trying to find his Playmate Cooler which I had stowed in the entry closet. Where? Which closet? Seriously, the unit had multiple closets, a large pantry (!) and lots of cabinet and drawer space for hiding "stuff." The full dining table could seat 8 and that did not include the breakfast nook (4) or breakfast bar (3?). Even with all our gear, we felt organized! The bath/shower was in some need of an update but the rest of the unit felt fresh and all was clean.

We are already on the waitlist to visit next year and have purchased our event tickets to the Parelli Performance Summit 2013. Whoo-hoo! (Or should I say, "Yee-haw!"?)
