Understanding my points for this year

As I am new to all this and with the situation I am going through having to cancel my holiday again in September due to davids death, I am wondering the best way to use /sell the points. When we took out DVC last November we were given the points for 2011 of 180 which I banked in January.Obviously from June which is our use year we have another 180 so now have 360.
I know in order not to loose the 2012 points I would need to bank them again in January or before? to use next year with the 2013 points.
My question is how long do I have to use last years banked points?
Can I sell them and which is the best and easiest way to do this?
I dont know if it is too late to sell them now or when they would expire.
Any help would be appreciated.:flower3:

Hi,

Firstly very sorry to hear about your situation. You are correct to say that you have until the end of your June 2012 use year to use your banked points from 2011, which means up until the end of May 2013. I would recommend Davids Vacation Rentals, who are a sponsor on the board, I've used them in the past and was very happy with their service. I would recommend getting your points listed ASAP given you're almost a quarter through the use year.

You can bank your 2012 points, sounds like you had might as well do that straight away if you know you won't need them until after June 2013.

Hope this helps!

Great advice from Wedgeh.

I've never used David's so I can't comment personally but he does have continuous great feedback.

Also think about the following option, offer not only your 180 banked points for rent but also a few more points from this years allocation.

This will ensure you open up your market to more renters especially those looking for a points rental of just over 180 and therefore you should be able to rent your points quicker.

Not sure how it works but I would offer a minimum of 180 points with a maximum rental of say 230.

Good luck with renting and sorry to hear of your sad loss.

Did you cancelled your trip within 30-days of arrival, as when this happens then your points go into an Holding Account.

If you are still on-line this evening then try ringing Member Services as they are now open until 00.30am UK time.

Here's the info on the Holding Account taken from the DVC web site.

Holding Account

A Holding Account is a "parking space" for Vacation Points from a Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation that has been modified or cancelled 30 days to 1 day before your scheduled check-in date.

Here are some guidelines regarding usage of Holding Account Vacation Points.

These Vacation Points can be used for a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation during your current Use Year as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new check-in date.

These Vacation Points can also be used for a new reservation during your current Use Year in two ways:

For the Disney Collection* (except Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels), Concierge Collection*, or Adventurer Collection*, you can make the reservation more than four months before the end of your Use Year for a check-in date that is 60 or less days before the new check-in date.

For Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels, or the World Passport Collection, as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new check-in date.

* Available when you purchase directly from Disney.
These Vacation Points cannot be banked or borrowed.
These Vacation Points must be used by the end of the Use Year or they expire.
