**Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

We're attempting to make a Christmas colored one for our Nov trip. But dd7 will be sewing her own...so it might be a few weeks before we get to the tye die part.

I finaally tried this, and didnt do to bad. Hard to believe but the first shirt i did was the best one. I did two kiddie ones and two adullt. The adult ones didnt come out to bad. I used to many rubber bands i think becuase i got a thick white line arounf only one side of the mickey head? Going to try again with halloween colors, we are going in oct. I attempted to do two heads on the tank dress i found for my lil one. Wish me luck..lol does anyone know what clor yellow pixiedust did for the classic mickey head shirt on pg 100? I just love that color combo?

How do you get the white halo around the ears? I did this twice but couldn't get the halo. The ears were there but no outline.

The third time I cheated and used the resist. That worked, so I'm happy with the results. I think we're going to wear these with silly hats when we go to MNSSHP.

Im still trying to figure that out myself! Lol i hope the next set will be better, its become so addicting that i keep buy shirts to practice with to get better.

Thanks to the great pictures and ideas on this thread....I made a bunch of these for our upcoming trip. If I could figure out how to post pics I would. I have loved doing them...and they came out great!

Ive made about 10 shirts and FINALLY have gotten some really good ones . I have put the rubber bands on really tight and been getting the white line around the head but how is everyone getting the head to stay one color? I ususally die the head first then wrap in plastic and die the top of the shirt and then the back but for some reason the die from the back seems to seem into the head?? How does everyone else do it?

I think I've talked dh into taking me to the world for my 30th in october. Super excited to try this out! Thank you for all your tips and advice.

So, is there a place in this thread where we learn how to outline mickey with that nice thin white line? I can't seem to find that part! Your shirts are awesome!

How do you make these tie dye shirts (page 129 by PirateFish989)? I like how they are only one color, not the multi-colored, spiral ones??

The outline can be very hit or miss. Most people choose to add several rubber bands to guarantee the outline, and don't mind it thick. If you want one that's thin, your best bet would be to dye normally then trace around the Mickey head with a bleach pen (must be bleach, stain pens won't work). Should you choose this route, make sure you put something in between the layers of the shirt so you don't bleed through.

As for those solid color shirts, they're done as bulls eyes. In non Mickey head ones, you pick up the fabric (both layers) from wherever you want the middle of the bulls eye to be, and lift straight up. The easiest way I can think of to describe it is imagine taking a fabric napkin that's laid flat out, pinching it in the middle and picking it straight up, then pulling it through pulling it through your hand with your first finger and thumb together, like you were smoothing it into a tube. You'd band down the "tube". I'm sure you could google or youtube it and see what I mean. Then you just put on the dye. The white circles are from the rubber bands.

Does anyone know how many post you need to have before you can post a picture. Just wamted to show some of the shirts i have made

I believe it's 10.

So guys, just an FYI, PixieDust32 who has been the main contributor to this thread has not made a post on the boards at all since June 18th of this year. I don't know if she still monitors this thread or responds to PMs but I think all signs are pointing to no.

I noticed her absence too - she usually is so consistent in responding. :confused3 I hope that everything is OK with her and her family:grouphug:

Agreed. It could be that she just lost interest too. I don't think anyone starts a thread like this and expects to be asked the same questions hundreds of times and for people to demand answers, you know? Pixie, if you happen back around, hope all is well!

I was fun to read threw the whole thread. My husband thinks im crazy! But its such a fun activity! Pixie had such a great craft that she brought for all of us to enjoy wether it be 4 years ago or if you just discovered it for the first time.

Really bummed not to see Pixie around too - wonder what happened?

I have only done four shirts (kiddie shirts at that) but the white I got on mine came from the thread I used. I don't think I did the rubberbands correctly because I didn't get that really thick white line that some people got. But to be honest, I kind of like the thinner line myself! I used coats and clark apolstery thread and small stitches...I also doubled the thread. It's not as good from what I hear as Dharma dyes but I used the tulip dyes. For the price and convenience...I was really happy with the outcome!!! :)
