Am I Cruising On a Ghost Ship

So DCL released some crazy good rates for FL Residents for September. Yesterday, I booked a short 3 night getaway for my family to take advantage of these rates for the Sept 6th cruise.

Main Dining is Available. Palo and Remy reservations are available for all three nights of the cruise. There is no Cruise meet thread for this cruise. Port check in time of 12:00 was available.

I am very surprised at such availability at such a late date (about 3-1/2 weeks out).

Will we be all alone on this cruise...?

How did you find the rates? When I look on the site under special pricing and FL resident, all I see is this:

"Rates as of Monday, July 23, 2012. Rates valid through Sunday, July 29, 2012."

I used the FLR code. Got a Cat4 room for $335 per person. Actually got two Cat 4 rooms connecting, because I could get 2 rooms for just $174 more with two of us in each room versus all four of us in one room. The third and fourth people (my kids) would have been $248 each if we had one room.

You may be! According to cruisefish.net there are approximately 87% of the cabins available on the Dream on that cruise. I saw on several posts that this percentage is usually fairly accurate as far as empty cabins - but don't know for sure myself... If it is accurate - enjoy the pools!!!

I know this is a dumb question, but the percentage next to the sail date is cabins available? I always thought it was cabins sold.

The percentage is an indication of categories available not ship occupancy. The 87% means most of the categories still have cabins available. Occupancy could vary widely based on how many couples vs how many families with children. 500 cabins booked with 2 people will be a much lower occupancy then 500 cabins booked with 4 people. The percentage on Cruisefish doesn't know the occupancy rates of a cruise, it just checks to see what categories are left.

I am on this cruise too and I have been thinking the exact same thing... Still so much availability and still no guaranteed rates (except verandah)

At least I know there will be one other family

So it looks like my 9/30 cruise is empty. There is a '97%' listed next to the date. This might be really nice for upgrade chances!!!

I've had FLR rates twice & the ones for Sept on the Dream are crazy cheap! I so wish I could go!!! Looked at Sept 16 & Sept 30th but my voice of reason (DH) told me to pay on/off our Dec cruise on the Fantasy instead.....

The hubby surprised me a month ago with a phone call from Mickey. He had us booked for a teenager-free getaway in a category 11b on the 9/27 3-night Dream. When the first bunch of FL resident discounts rolled out I was watching but our cruise wasn't included. ((We have a home in Florida & maintain our residency there.)) I kept randomly checking and spotted our sailing added to the bunch soon thereafter. We upgraded 6 categories to a 5b and got a $384 refund. Amazing! There's still tons of availability on our sailing as well. I'm excited at the prospect of a port upgrade. I only wish hubby could take more time off work so we could double-dip! The FL resident rates are amazing right now!

if you've ever thought of concierge, this may be the time..
i just checked our cruise in october and concierge is still more than half empty, so i assume there are going to be great concierge deals at the port..

so don't forget to ask about it when you check in at the port....i'm sure your cruise also has a lot of availability in concierge!!

I've been watching concierge availability like a hawk. Whenever you go in to start the booking process there's always 8 different staterooms in both 00V's and 00T's to choose from. The upgrade from 11b to 5b was also strategic in that it's less distance to cover for port upgrades. I'm thinking we might can make it to concierge for what we paid originally for the 11b. This past May on a 5-night Magic our family of 4 upgraded at the port from a standard verandah (forget the category) to a 1-bedroom for $1200. I'd love it if the hubby & I could do that again. I've got my magic number in my head. If we can upgrade for that much or less we'll do it. If not, I'm still absolutely thrilled with what we have. Still, wouldn't it be awesome to do for our anniversary celebration? And without the kids?!?!


Also wanted to mention to the OP, our sailing has a small cruise group going but they aren't real chatty here like the other 2 groups I participated in. Either they do the majority of their chatting on FB (I don't FB so I have no idea) or it's just not a real active group. Maybe your sailing has a FB group.
