Plaza Restaurant staff is horrible

To all beware. Tonight we had a reservation at the Plaza Restaurant for 8:45, made through the Disney Mobile App on Verizon. First we attempted to go early, the mobile app showed a 7:35, went through the reservation process, but showed an error when confirming. The app would however book the 8:45. When arriving early the pleasant cast member at the podium told us we must be using a fake Disney App. Strike 1. So we went to enjoy the park and come back at 8:45. Unfortunately my kids got stuck in Space Mountain when it broke down. So after getting out and running to the Plaza we arrived at 9:02. We were then told the kithen closed promptly at 9 and had been closed for two minutes and we could not be served. The cast member was very kurt when talking to us. Strike 2. So I went to Town Hall and spoke to the cast member in charge. All he could do was get the manager at Tonys Town Square to see us with a very limited menu or go to the wave at the contemporary sit in the lounge with our kids and order off of the room service menu. Two not very good options. Strike 3. Not sure what I expected but guest recovery was weak at best. Would have loved Pete to have experienced this to hear him rant on this experience. I know Pete's rant would have been epic. So with three kids now hungry, one almost in tears he was so hungry we headed back to the Grand Floridian. Got a bright idea on the monorail to go to Captain Cooks at the Polynesian. Upon entering the Poly noticed Kona Cafe open. Now eating and the cast members here have been wonderful, can now highly recommend Kona, but beware of the Plaza. What used to be a favorite is now an avoid.

:welcome: to the boards! Thank you for posting even though it isn't a positive topic.

I'm sorry to hear of this experience. I'm surprised that The Plaza closed so early during a peak season month. I'm glad that you are enjoying Kona. It is a favorite of mine.

So, you use a fake app and it's the staff's fault?? You come back to a restaurant after it closes and late for your "fake reservation" and it's Disney's fault?? You try to make reservations same day and get angry. And you join the DIS just to rant?? I just don't get it.

Nothing like making a new person feel welcomed!

Sorry about experience, glad it finally worked out in the end.

Disney Mobile Magic is an official Disney app. It was recently replaced by the new app, My Disney Experience.

The original poster shared his experience during a recent trip. Getting and sharing information is the heart of the Boards whether it is positive or negative towards Disney.

All, please keep conversations respectful moving forward. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion as long as it does not violate our board guidelines.

wait...did we establish the app was fake? if you had a priority seating at 8:45 and miss it because space mountain went 101, that is disney's fault, regardless if the reservation was made today.

Just doesn't add up to me if you look at the information given.
1. Persons first post ever on the Dis was at 9:19 yesterday while dining at Kona.
2. They had been turned away from The Plaza at 9:02 went to town hall and were given the choice of eating at Tony's.
3. After going to Town Hall they traveled to The Poly and were seated, eating and posting on the DIS all in 17 minutes.
Looks like they had a magical day and didn't know it.:wizard:
:welcome:Welcome to the DIS LSUDentist where we have a magical day everyday!

I tend to think that this is just a matter of bad timing. We have had good experiences at the Plaza. I would also be on the phone with 407-WDW-DINE and verifying any ADR at that time. I think you are taking your ADR into your own hands if you get on a ride that could potentially run you late to an ADR. There are always exceptions, but when the kitchen has started shutting down, there is not much anyone can do. I would use the situation as a learning opportunity. And Kona is not a bad place to end up.

1. OP was saying that a CM said that his app was a fake dining app.
2. If they had time to ride a ride and it broke down, was he suppose to leave his kids there just to make it on time or should have that CM checked out about Space Mountain?? I'm sorry, but the CM was rude.
3. I know plenty of people that call and make ressies the same day that they're there. What does that have to do with anything?
4.NikkiBell is/was right. The DIS is a place to rant, rave, scream, be happy, excited, or whatever else you may want to do(within the guidelines of course). If this person first post was to make him/her feel better, then it's ok.

To the OP,:welcome:!!!!

Let's get back to the original topic. Has anyone had similar experiences at The Plaza?

I know I've seen some threads where people have received less than great service - but not to this degree. Overall, I've known it to be pretty consistent if not great. Assuming that all this actually happened, then it's safe to say that the CM didn't follow through and provide excellent service that one would expect.

Actually 10:19

To the OP I am happy to hear that you did find a nice place to eat without any notice. I hope today is erasing any bad taste left.:thumbsup2

I guess I'm not sure what was expected of Disney, other than an apology.

Attractions sometimes stop working, restaurants have posted closing times and other options can be limited.

Other than alleged curtness, I'm not sure what the issue was.

Was the waitstaff and kitchen staff supposed to remain at work to accommodate this family? This would have proven very expensive.

First off - Welcome to the Dis! :goodvibes

I have always had a good experience at the Plaza, so I am a bit surprised about this. But every place can have employees who are having a bad day - and it could be they are having to deal with a lot of issues with problems from the new app. I really hope this was the case here, as it seems out of character for my past experiences.

One thing with this is its a word of caution for all of us with the new Disney app - to maybe double check any reservations we make with it, at least for a bit to make sure all the bugs are worked out before we rely on it.

One has to wonder though, if the kitchen shuts down at 9:00, why an 8:45 reservation was available.

I have to agree with you on this one!!! If that restaurant knows what time they close, then why be available on the app and when they checked in, have them down for a 8:45 ressie??? Something in the communication was seriously lacking.

But to the OP, how was the food at Ohana's?? I've been dying to go there and want to know what you think of it!!:goodvibes

We have only had good experiences at the Plaza. I am sorry to hear this serious of misfortunate events caused your dinner to be delayed.
Kona is an excellent consolation prize though- so I hope you enjoyed your dinner.

Well, I think if the status quo satisfies you then fine. Sure, we close at 9 not at 9:10 -have a good evening. Disney doesn't owe them anything so they're certainly not in the wrong. However, the OP may have been satisfied with a "we've officially closed, but I'll go speak with the manager to see if we can make an exception." Sometimes just the effort and not the result is enough to make someone happy. Just my opinion on a possible scenario. Besides, I wouldn't want Disney to spend any money unnecessarily since I have reason to believe they are saving it to fix the Yeti.

Let me clarify a few things. First the first post came while still venting. Second the manager at the Beach club agreed with me on the following points. Not sure if I wa clear originally on these: 1) I was using Disney Mobile Magic App, Disney's official app on Verizon. So for a cast member to acuse us of lying did not sit well. 2) The cast member said if we had showed up at 9, instead of 9:02 we would have been seated and served. For 2 minutes and to say that two minutes made a difference seems unreasonable. 3) The first three times we asked to see a manager we were told no we did not need a manager. The hotel manager at the Beach club was appalled by that part of the story especially. 4) The Cade member in charge at city hall did not seem to take an interest in our story. To Kevins point I am not sure what I expected other than concern from the CM at city hall. I felt the people at the Plaza had been rude and accusatory. Thanks to Mark (podium CM) and Jason (waiter) at Ohana we did feel good again about Disney, but that should not excuse the bad show by the CM's at tne Plaza. Also, when we asked at the Plaza why take an 8:46 reservation, the answer was we didn't the computer system did. Once again a rude remark that nothing had been their fault. Disney is about team play and u help everyone. The CM' s at the Plaza seemed very me oriented. Thanks to Bill (Beach Club), Mark and Jason at Ohana Disney magic was restored. Can not say enough great things about these CM's. For myself, we did move quickly to get the kids fed and got to the Poly about 9:30. Also, I have posted before ad toothdoc, I changed phones and could not remember my password I used. So I got a new board name. Finally, for those who ate attacking, you don't know me, we were not looking for anything and gladly paid for an excellent meal at Ohana. I am also running the Goofy, my first ever half and full marathons simply to raise money for Make A Wish kids to come to Disney. I only agreed to this insanity if my friends would help raise money. So that's me.
