Seems like room only discounts are generally in the spring while free dining tends to be fall and winter? Is that about right? Thinking of an early May or Oct trip. Am assuming Oct may have free dining and May a room discount? And assuming you can't do yes program AND free dining?
What are the typical percent off savings for each category of value, moderate and deluxe? Thanks.

Typical discounts are as follows:

Value: 10-20% off
Moderate: 15=25% off
Deluxe: 30-40% off
Deluxe Villa: 35-42% off

This is just an average of what you can expect. For historical discounts, please go to Mousesavers.

Typically you cannot "stack" package discounts. I'm not certain about the YES program, but since that provides your park tickets, you likely would then not be purchasing tickets with your room, therefore no free dining. For the free dining you generally have to purchase a minimum number of days in the park and rack-rate for the room. Assuming one is offered, you could do a room-only discount with your YES tickets and pay OOP for dining.

For my September trip, I was able to choose between Free Dining or a Room Only Discount.. FD of course saved me more so I went with that, but they were both available for Aug-Sept.

And assuming you can't do yes program AND free dining?

You can do YES program and free dining if you are willing to pay for tickets twice, because in addition to buying the YES tickets you must also buy at least 2 day tickets on the free dining package.

For our upcoming trip for october i got a 40% Discount on a Deluxe villa and the dining plan for free. Plus 15% Off for early booking.
But we are from europe :thumbsup2

Are there any discounts for the first week in Aug? Also is there a better time of the day to book online? Playing around on the Disney site last night, it seemed that prices were changing depending on the hour we were "booking" even if we did the same package a couple of hours before.

I think room-only discounts were offered this summer, but I don't know the history. July and August are peak season so Disney doesn't need to offer discounts since they are designed to fill rooms which is not a problem in the summer months. :)

I don't think WDW changes prices by the hour...but don't know for sure :) I have noticed prices changing as you describe, but when I looked closely, the package options were changing. I thought I was requesting a quote for the same package, but that's not what I got... If I then selected the same options as a previous quote, I've had to hit UPDATE twice to see the correct price. I have no idea what's causing that craziness, I'm sure what I'm doing is involved somehow

Disney does not change their prices online - it's either the package type, discount code or ticket option that is changing. Or dates revert back to the original pre-set ones, which may be in a different "season" therefore a different rate. The system can be glitchy, but the actual room rate does not change.

I've been to WDW in almost every month of the year & have always had a discount. Whether its FD, AAA, room-only, AP or bounceback, I've never NOT had a discount. The discounts are out there, you just have to know where & when to look!
