Official Castaway Cay 5K Thread

So does anyone actually just walk it?

I have "just walked" it twice and never felt out of place. Many of the other participants offered words of encouragement along the way. That really helps keep you going in that heat. So go ahead walk it and have a good time.

I did this on the Aug. 1 Dream sailing and got the plastic finisher's "medal" but no certificate. Got the medal right after I completed the run. I'm glad I did it, but it was kind of boring - same scrubby scenery the whole time and no views of the ocean or any other parts of the island, really. I wrote a review of it in a blog post I did last week - blog address in my signature.

And here I thought it was just me. We bookended the race, as I was one of the last to finish. I did improve my time from my very first 5k this summer, so there's that. Really would have liked one of those snazzy medallions, but at least I have my bib as a keepsake.

Are you saying that you didn't receive the finisher's medal?! I thought everyone that participated in the race got one of these? The are still giving out medals, right?!

Did you notice if they had the CC 5K tee-shirts available in all sizes, or were they just Large an X-Large? My daughter definately wants one of these!

We did this in May '12 on the Dream on a Saturday. We got finisher "medals" at the end of the race, and the certificates came to our stateroom that night (which was also the last night of the cruise). (They had our stateroom number from when we signed up in 687 before the race in the morning.) As far as the T-shirts, we bought ours as soon as the race was over, because we were worried about sizes, which seem to be uni-sex. I think we were able to get a S and M, and they seemed to have the full compliment of sizes at that point. (We finished in about 30 minutes.) We were able to leave our bag of stuff in a trunk by the bicycle rentals, and we just changed into our swimsuits after grabbing a drink at Cookies Too. We just rinsed in the ocean, as there aren't private showers.

I walked it in July '12 - everybody was great about it. Nobody rushing you. Everyone who participated got the "medal" - we didn't get certificates though.

Cool. I will do c25k which will make me run for about 15' or so,but the rest will be a walk. 30' workout takes me to about 2.2 miles, then another 15' for the next mile.

And since I'm on a double dip, I hope to do it twice :)

I don't know if they simply didn't have enough for everyone in our group(8/6), but no - I didn't get a finisher's medal. A bit sad about that, but oh well.

They did seem to have a pretty good range on the shirt sizes. I'm kind of a big beefy guy, so XL was available - and its what I wanted. But, yeah they did seem to have a good range of sizes, and its a nice shirt. Chest imprint, back graphic, and the cruise logo on the sleeve. A great memento from my jog on Castaway Cay !

If it's important enough to you, I'll bet if you contact DCL guest services, they could pop one in the mail to you!

I walked it on our June /July cruise.
I did feel a little bit of pressure to finish quickly as I was the only one walking, but people were very encouraging along the way (the CMs also). A few of the joggers who finished before me actually waited at the finish line which was great (whether that was intentional or not- they might have just been recovering :rotfl:), as my family were all on excursions.
It took me 48 minutes to walk it, and boy was it hot. I didn't want to go back to the ship, so I changed into my suit and jumped right in the water.

I got a medal, but no certificate.
The shirts were limited to M and XXL. I was told they restock when the Dream comes, so there may be a better selection on those cruises. You have a few minutes before the start, so you may want to grab one then and store it with your stuff.

Would someone please post a picture of the shirt.

Deciding if I should send DH to buy me one while I am running.

Just wondering if anyone else that's done the CC5K had any other experience with dropping off kids in nursery or kids club? That part makes me a little nervous. My DH and I both want to run,but not sure if we will have time to drop the kids off?

On the FAQ sticky under Castaway Cay 5K, the 5th post shows a picture of the back of the shirt. The front just has small wording on the left side that says Disney Cruise Line 5K Run.

I ran this on 8/6 on the Dream and did not get a medal or certificate.

I knew to wait and see that it might be in the room later, but nothing came. I inquired about it and was told that they suspended the medals/certificates. I did see a box of medals in the lounge that morning before the race but maybe they didn't have enough for everybody so just didn't give them???

Knowing that you can get different answers from different CM's, I inquired at guest services. I was told the same thing but she did make up some Magical Moments certificates for me.

I ran this with my 9 year old niece and my 15 year old. We were never questioned about her being there. Yes, she did finish. Do they want a family with young kids doing this? Probably not, but one child with an adult was no big deal and it was very laid back. On the navigator there is conflicting info about it. In one spot it does say 12+,but on the detailed sheet that lists the times of all activities, it is listed under "Fun for All Ages"

I am planning on found the 5k on Castaway Cau but I'm worried I'll be cutting it close to finish and making it to our port adventure at 10am. I haven't done the 5k before do would appreciate any info.

Yes, trying to be somewhere by 10 would be cutting it close. If I remember right, we met at 8:30, off the boat by 9, and by the time we took a pic with Goofy and walked to the start line, it was 9:30, maybe even a bit later.

Hope that helps!

We inquired about this on the first CC stop of our Double Dip. The CM doing the run said it would be no problem, to talk to youth activities. We did - a few times - and they acted like we were speaking another language. We finally decided to just drop them off at Scuttle's Cove right at 9am if they wouldn't let us a few minutes early, and then head to the start line and start a few minutes late.

Ultimately my husband wasn't feeling well so I did it myself, but we didn't leave the start line until about 9:10am.

I got no medal, but did get a certificate delivered to my room. I did the run on 8/14 on the Dream Double Dip.

No medal??? That's my only incentive to do it :sad1:

Is this an event offered on every cruise?? I am only going on a three day but would love to participate!

Thanks for the info about child care. We will have to just see how it works out. Bummer you didn't get a medal...that's a little discouraging. Oh well... It will be fun, however!

So happy that they've swapped my itinerary to one that goes to CC.
I ran this back in the dark ages when there was no form of incentive other than your own pride of accomplishment, so I've been wanting to do it again for the shirt.
:cool1:
