Lab vs. Edge on Magic

Before our cruise on the Magic, our DD who just turned 11 one month before our cruise, decided she wanted to go to the lab as she enjoyed it so much on our last cruise. She was registered at the lab and went to one activity the first night which she enjoyed. She was also encouraged by the counselor to try Edge to make sure lab was what she wanted. DH took her to the Meet Your Counselors at Edge later that first night. That was all it took for DD, she met 2 nice girls and decided to spend the cruise in Edge. My stress then began because I didn't want her roaming the ship unsupervised which is pretty much what I envisioned. We gave her our rules which she was great about following them which included she couldn't leave edge without calling us. I think Edge activities were great for her. Parents shouldn't shy away from Edge because they feel there child isn't ready which is what I thought about my DD. I was wrong. The counselors were great and very interactive with the kids, lots of activities to keep the kids busy.

DS is 11 & I am a bit nervous about Edge. He is a responsible kid though & never "pushes it." This makes me feel a bit better.

One more thing I wanted to add about leaving my DD(11) at Edge. I made sure she knew how to get to our muster station in case of an emergency and we weren't with her. I know the counselors would help but there are a few Edge activities outside of the actual Edge space. We told her to go directly to the muster station and NOT the stateroom. We would meet her at the muster station. I didn't want to worry her as emergencies are extremely rare, but felt better know she was prepared.

Does anyone know Disney's policy on allowing almost 11 year olds in Edge? We are leaving on 8/25 out of NYC and can not wait. My daughter will be 11 at the end of September and has already stated that she refuses to attend the Lab, Have no idea what she will do for the week. Any thoughts on this issue would be very helpful.

AFAIK, an 11 year old can go to Edge. Or the Lab. If she starts in one and switches to the other, she cannot go back to the original location. If she's so definate that she will NOT attend Lab, you'll have to give Edge a try.

She won't be 11 until the next month. I am afraid that they wont allow her to go to the edge, that was why I was wondering if they will let her go even though to the edge even if she is only 10. Sorry for the confusion.

There have been many posts from recent cruisers stating their 11-12 year olds could move freely between the Edge and the Lab throughout the length of the cruise. The only requirement was to put on the wrist band whenever they were in the Lab.

The past Disney cruises we have taken have always been for my son b-days. They have always told me that if the child is close to turning the age they can step up in the clubs. We were usually within 2 weeks of his b-day. Since they allow this it seems they are flexible. Just go the the club and talk to the counselor when you get onboard.
