AKV studio first trip?

I know this has been asked before but I don't have enough caffeine in me at the moment to find the answer. We are headed to Kidani as first time DVC members this October. We honeymooned AKL in 2004 and have never stayed at Kidani.

1) If we are using points for a deluxe studio, savanna view, does that work like a "request" or do we really get a deluxe, savanna view studio?

2) where are these rooms located?

3) are some rooms in this category better than others? Floor level specifically.

4) there will be 4 of us, do we need to pack our own shampoo and soap? I know they do towel and trash every 4 days but do they replenish toiletries?

5) what kind of coffee makers are in the studios?

6) where do I get coffee. <----my most important question! ;)

Thanks for reading all of this. :)

I've been up for a few hours, so I do!!! :drinking1

Savanna view is a specific booking category, so you will get a Savanna view. The "request" is which savanna! There's the Pembe (smaller) and Sunset (larger) savanna. Might want to check out the map here

2) where are these rooms located?
They can be anywhere along the "string of beads". They can be close to the main entrance, or a little bit of a walk (my family doesn't mind the walk at all). They can also be in the wing closer to Jambo (if you plan on walking there more for food, etc.) or on the north wing (little quieter...)

3) are some rooms in this category better than others? Floor level specifically.
I've only overlooked the parking lots, so someone else can answer this part. :flower3:

4) there will be 4 of us, do we need to pack our own shampoo and soap? I know they do towel and trash every 4 days but do they replenish toiletries?
They will replenish toiletries, but depending on how much shampoo/conditioner your group uses, the small sizes may not be enough to last you 4 days (it's currently fine for our group, but may not be the case when my son actually gets hair! :lmao:)

5) what kind of coffee makers are in the studios?
They're standard Mr Coffee 12-cup with the flat-bottom filters.

6) where do I get coffee. <----my most important question! ;)
The little shop next to the entrance has the machine if you have a refillable mug. And they're open early enough to get some in the morning when you're getting ready for the parks!!!

Good luck!

Do the rooms come with the coffee filters? Are they available for purchase at the gift shops?

I always use my refillable mug, so I haven't actually made coffee in the room, but I have seen a couple of single-use bags, which I imagine is coffee in little filter bags like I have at work, but I haven't actually opened one to find out.

Your supplies are replenished on your service days. So if you are there seven nights or less, you will get your trash removed and towels replaced on day 4 (with day one as check in day). They will also provide another bottle of shampoo, another bar of soap, etc. They do not provide coffee filters, only a single packet of prefiltered coffee.

Any of these items that you need more of, you will need to purchase or bring from home. The coffee makers are Mr Coffee style basket type filter.

All studios are considered deluxe. Savanna view should have a view of the savanna. Sometimes not the best view, but still a view of the savanna.

Thanks for the link.

We are staying four nights. So I'm assuming the day before we check out, we'll receive towels and trash pickup?

Exactly. Four nights = five days. You get trash and towel service on day 4.

That's coffee? I've wondered what that brown liquid was.

A couple of years ago, we had the very last room at the end of of Pembe savanna. Every morning, the animals would parade over to the veterinary clinic. I guess for meal-time or attention, or maybe just habit. It was kind of neat.

And seriously, if coffee is important, bring some filters and make it in your room!

I bet they called them over there every morning. When you are sitting outside watching the animals and they start moving, listen for some sounds that are different. It's the animal caregivers calling them for food or treats or something else.

Yes your check-in day is day 1 so with a 4-night stay you would get your trash and towel service on your last full day. You can request to have that service on a different day so that you get fresh towels earlier in your stay. Call Mousekeeping once you get to your room and ask them to come on whichever day you would prefer. This doesn't always work however. For whatever reason, sometimes these special requests get overlooked. If that happens, call Mousekeeping again and hopefully they will send someone to your room with your towels and toiletries.

What is this listening you speak of?

I won't hear anything. I'll have to ask my wife next time.

Probably best to take coffee filter and your favorite coffee in your suitcase. Just make sure to double bag the coffee. Dh and I always do this because we LOVE our coffee and are a little picky about what we drink.

The room only comes with 1 regular and 1 de-caf packet (one pot worth of each).

In regard to higher or lower floors, one thing to consider would be trees...
We own at Kidani, but have yet to stay there, however, I did walk over to Kidani and figured out the lay of the land and explored the resort. We stayed at Jambo on points, and nearly all of the DVC villas are on the top floor, meaning that you are looking in to the tree tops. SO, while we still saw plenty of animals, they had to be close to us, or between trees for us to see them.

So you may want to request a studio on a lower floor, AND near an elevator.
If you want to park under the building, being close to an elevator will save you some distance.

We have come to not worry at all about room location - we have had some great rooms and some OK rooms - but there aren't 'bad rooms'.

We take what we get!

Since this is our DVC stay, this is great to know. Thanks!:goodvibes
