It's NEVER Too Late, for Number 8 - the most UNOFFICIAL, 'official' AKL thread yet!

I had a number of firsts yesterday. I am not very interested in watching sports and my interest in the Olympics was pretty much confined to checking the medal tables a couple of times a day. Soccer is not exactly my sport either. If Graham watches soccer on TV, I leave the room. Still, about a week ago it sunk in that this is probably the only time in my lifetime that I have the Olympics pretty much on my doorstep. Most of the Olympics is taking place in London, but some of the soccer matches are played right here in Manchester. Graham had been to two of the men's preliminary matches and was wowed by the atmosphere. I came around to the idea that I would regret it if I did not make the effort to attend at least one Olympic event. So we discussed on Tuesday that we should try to get tickets for the women's soccer semi final that was played here. I did not really rate our chances, but on Wednesday Graham managed to get tickets for the match yesterday at a very good price.

We watched the semi final between USA and Canada. To my immense surprise I really enjoyed it. The first half was more about the acrobatic ability of some of the players than the soccer. There were all kinds of interesting tumbles and somersaults. At some stage I wondered if they were thinking that they had entered a gymnastics event. When Canada scored, this came completely out of the blue. The second half was complete edge of the seat stuff. The goals came hard and fast and soon the two teams were tied at 3:3. The game went into overtime and it looked like this would go to penalties. In the last minute of stoppage time after the extra time had been played, USA scored another goal and ended up winning.

I had an amazing evening and the atmosphere was spectacular even though the stadium was only about a third full. I am so glad that I went.

Corinna

That is awesome and I am glad that you decided to go...

Good morning Js & Ks! :wave2: On my way out the door for the airport! :goodvibes

Thanks - I'm afraid there isn't much to do where I'll be. I have the weekend off so maybe I'll get the chance to go exploring the Ozarks! :thumbsup2

Most of the trips I've made for this particular Study have been 8 to 16 days. They usually put us in hotels that have kitchens (or at least kitchenettes!) so we have some of the comforts of home! ;)

Carry on!! :joker:

Are you going to do a TR when you get back...... :lmao:

:faint: let's have no more talk of that sc...l word, while I'M Still on vacay!!! I don't have to go back to work ( that word) till after Labour Day :teacher: and in my world it's still summer :rotfl2: :beach:

And in mine! I am still teaching summer classes!! :) A few of the private schools in our area will go back next week, but 85% of our school systems still go back after Labor Day.

Corinna - I am delighted that you took the opportunity to go see an Olympic event!! :goodvibes

Good morning, Js & Ks! :sunny:

Good Morning everybody :)

Corinna, what fun! I saw the ending of that game on TV, how amazing to see it in person. I have had to pry myself away from watching the Olympics, have been enjoying them very much.

HELLO EVERYONE!!

AKL newbie here ... I am lucky enough to get 2 nights at AKL (Jambo House) in early September (5 & 6) and I could NOT be more excited!! It's going to be a mother/daughter outing to Blizzard Beach. :cool1:

I have never had a zebra dome and so I searched to find out exactly what is in it  ... found someone's description ... and now I can't wait to have some. However, they described a yellow-cake one, and also a chocolate one with a chocolate-nut base. Anybody know what kind of nut is in the base? I'm allergic to tree nuts, but I can have peanuts. And are there any other ones than these two choices? just wondering

So very excited!!!!!

...your best best is to ask one of the pastry chefs when you get there - that way, you won't have to wind up having an adverse reaction to something that you ingest...

Yeah ... it's nice that all the WDW restaurant chefs will come show you what you can and can't eat with an allergy. It's pretty cool. I would probably do that anyway, but while I'm just sitting here looking at the pictures, I just wanted to daydream about eating them, too. :lmao:
